2002 Chevy Malibu Overheating Wont Start Help

1999 Chevy Malibu overheating problem?

1. First thing is the cheap fix. Change your thermostat. In cold weather, you want the higher temp thermostat. If your problem continues then next.

2. See if you have fans behind your radiator. IF you do, are they running. Then either the fan motor is out. Hot wire to engine battery directly to see if they run or not. If they do then your fan thermostat is out or faulty.

3. The constant gushing back and fourth sounds like your Radiator is clogged up. I had the exact same problem. For some reason, you radiator is clogged up. I had about 75% of the bottom radiator tubes clogged. That was why my car was running hot and the temperature going up and down like a see saw. I did this at the last fix, after replacing thermostat and water pump. The guy showed me how clogged up the radiator was when he took it apart. Now with the internet, I find it better to get a new radiator then to get it rebuilt. At least the new one has a lifetime warranty. And I am a cheap skate. I replace my Ford Explorer radiator bought thru the internet, about $60 cheaper than auto zone and life time warranty too. But I have to make sure not to lose receipt.

I have a 2002 Chevy Malibu and it is over heating, What could be the problem? ?

Check to make sure your intake gaskets are not leaking, it is a very common problem on those. Also check all of your fuses( i know this is going to sound wierd) For the fan AND the AIR CONDITIONING, that is if the fan does not kick in. GM ran power to the fan through the A/C fuses

My 1998 chevy malibu's anti theft system has shut down my car. i have tried everything in the manual. help

This is a fairly common issue on the 98 Malibu. We've seen several in our shop this year for a similar problem with the anti-theft system.

The issue is most likely coming from a worn key believe it or not. The key physically wears as does the transponder necessary to start the car. The first item you'll want to try is disconnecting the battery.

Disconnect the positive terminal for a couple of minutes and then reconnect it. The car may or may not start right up. If you have a spare key, give it a shot...this works more often than not. (You may even try jiggling the key back and forth while trying to start the vehicle) If this does not provide a result pulling fuses will not solve the problem, the car will remain disabled.

The ignition lockset itself may be worn as well, (the part the key slides into). You may also have a fault in the anti-theft system. If either of these are the case no little tricks are going to get it to start. It will have to be taken in for service. Give the battery disconnect and spare key (if you have one) a shot. If this doesn't pan out you'll have to get it towed in for service.

Hope this helps!

My Chevrolet Malibu won't start after it overheated!?

I live here in Austin Texas. My parents went on a trip to Dallas and took my 2000 Chevrolet Malibu Ls 3.1 V6. before they left they filled the tank with water, checked the oil and everything you need to do before you go on a 3 hour trip. They left to Dallas 3 hours later they got there.. Then they were on their way back and 20 minutes after they were out of the Dallas city limit coming towards Austin the car started to over heat and temperature increased about 2 lines above normal and the car immediately shut down. They pulled over waited for the car to cool down and after it cooled down they put water in the tank again. They checked ALL the fuses for any burned fuses, water pump, thermostat, hoses, gas lines, fire on spark plugs and EVERYTHING IS GOOD. The car wouldn't start back up. it wants to but something won't let it start. IT WONT EVEN TURN ON WITH THE AUTOMATIC REMOTE START... WE think it might of blown a head gasket or something. 4 days before this happened my IGNITION SWITCH WENT BAD and it wouldn't let my car turn on so i REPLACED IT with a NEW IGNITION SWITCH and my car was RUNNING GOOD AGAIN. Everything was good but i know you HAVE TO ACTIVATE THE NEW IGNITION SWITCH and do a key turning patter for it to be activated and I DIDN'T do that. What do you think is the problem..........? Fuel pump works, there is fire on the spark plugs i don't know what it could be. DO you think my IGNITION SWITCH WENT BAD AGAIN BECAUSE I DIDN'T ACTIVATE IT so it won't let my car start? Please help! :(

I have a 2000 chevy malibu and im trying to bypass the govorner and the rev limiter but dont have a clue how?

Yes, the hi'er speed is out there and you can get it w/ one of the re-programmer like the Hypertec re-programmer. That cost like $350. bucks(and they recommend you swap the cooler runnin t-stat(which is where the real power comes from, IMO) for the power increases)and yea, you can do alill more w/ one of their re-programmer but, not much.

Basicly, the speed limiter is built into the car's computer. Mainly, b-cuz of the tire rating that came on the car from the factory. But, you can remove the speed limiter(along w/ recal. the speedo, due to larger tire/wheels and/or rear-end(or FWD gear, in the bu, I'm guessin here) swaps w/ one of the hypertec re-programmers.

Good luck and be safe out there!!! If, you are serious about wantin to delete the speed limiter. Make sure you tires are capable of handle the added speed. By checkin the speed rating of the tires on the vehicle over @ tire rack.com.

How to flush a radiator on a 2002 chevy malibu?

When my husband tried to drain the old coolant the drivers side drain plug won't unscrew. Is there a way to flush without removing this plug. Any help would be great. Thanx

Where is the radiator cap on a 2002 Chevy Malibu?

I don;t believe you car has a fill port directly on the radiator. you have to fill it thru the reservoir. if it's running out as fast as you put it in,you have a serious issue. waiting to repair it will end up costing
a lot more than taking it in for repair & renting a car for the time it's in the shop. If this sounds too expensive price a head replacement, or worst case, engine replacement. Every time you overheat your engine you shorten it's lifespan considerably. and a heads up, if you are adding coolant and there is no leak visible you may already have a blown head gasket. In short, get it in for repair before you destroy your engine!

Why won't my car start after fixing a broken serpentine belt?

Ok so first question is the starter rotating the motor like it should and it just wont start or are you turning the key without getting any results. If its not turning over id first off hit the starter solenoid with a soft hammer a few good raps may dislodge a stuck solenoid. Now if the motor is spinning but not firing up my first place id look is the distributor wiring unless it runs coil packs then i would guess that you knocked the wires off the crank sensor or maybe even broke the crank sensor. I am at a disability here not knowing what the vehicle make is., if it died while driving because belt fell off and you ran on battery till it ran out of power. ( a jump start is the ticket in that case ) Honestly im going with the crank sensor or crankshaft position sensor.being the root of your problem because if the belt broke it could easily take out the sensor as belt flew around the front of the motor. But check all your connections and research the crank sensor ..its usually a cheap and easy part to replace if its in a area where belt passes by it that makes sense as to your problem. Ok let me know a bit more info if possible. Dont give up the answer will come
