3rd Party Check Deposit At Atm

Can I deposit a third party check into my account?

Q: Can I deposit a third party check into my account?A: In the USA, the answer is: it is possible, but not likely that your bank will accept a third party check. Some banks will accept them, but many will not. Jump to the bottom of my answer for recommendations. In the USA, major banks are very likely to deny or reject your deposit if the check is made payable to a third party. Third party checks represent additional risk to banks for two major reasons. First, signatures on third party checks can’t be verified by the receiving bank unless:(1) the payee already banks with that bank, or(2) the payee is physically present with the depositor.Customers will often ask bank employees to call the payee’s bank to verify information, but most retail banks will not do this (requesting information or providing it).Secondly, if bank employees can’t verify the signature, then they also cannot know whether the check is legitimate or not (forged and/or stolen). For these two major reasons, banks have simply moved to rejecting third party checks. ATMs are especially strict about payees matching an account holder’s name.Best course of action:Before you endorse the third party check, call your bank branch and ask if they will accept third party checks at the teller window. If not, then have the third party deposit their check into their account and then write you a check (or transfer funds or give cash) from their account to you.If yes, then ask your bank if they require the third party to be present with ID when you make the deposit at the teller window. If you trust the third party (family member, very close friends), then you might consider opening a joint account together. You can also add a new joint signer to an existing account.Don’t deposit the check into the ATM. It will be rejected and you will be charged a fee.Good luck.

Third Party Check Deposits at Wells Fargo?

I received a check that I endorsed to my brother to deposit in his wells fargo account (via ATM). A day later he gets a call saying they can't deposit 3rd party checks via atm (which is nonsense because I've been endorsing checks to my brother many times) and they sent the check back to my mailbox. My brother needs this money but is out of state now and I need to get this check into his account. Would going to a branch, filling out a deposit slip and having the teller deposit it work? The check is already endorsed to him and signed, and I have his account number to fill out the deposit slip. Can I do this or does he need to be there?

Which banks let you deposit 3rd party check?

What happens when a third-party check is deposited into the ATM and into my account?

A bank will not usually accept a third party check without being able to identify the payee, the person signing it over to you. This is a preventative policy to keep people from taking checks that don’t belong to them and redeeming them for themselves. At the window the teller will inform you of this and will not accept the check unless you either bring the original payee in with you, or if that person can have their signature guaranteed by their own bank (the bank may or may not allow this). It’s best to just have that person redeem his check and give you a new payment. If deposited through an ATM, there will still be someone who collects the checks the next business day to review them. You could still take a chance that it will bypass their scrutiny, but chances are that they will reverse the deposit and mail the check back to you.

Has anyone tried to deposit a third party check at HSBC?

If you have a current a/c with a bank, you can deposit
a third party's cheque with an endorsement from the payee, and guaranteed by you. There should be no "a/c payee crossing'" on the cheque. Banks usually negotiate such cheques, but nowadays they refuse.
It all depends upon your rapport with your bank whether HSBC or any others

A 3rd party ck was deposit in my acct (ATM) then reversed, bank is closing my acct am I facing legal problems?

It sounds that this transaction is invalid and is not your fault. You can ask the bank if anyone puts money in your account without informing you so how you could be the defaulter. So, if the bank does such an act I mean closing your account, this is not banking in my view and would suggest you to close the account by yourself. Neither regarding the third party deposit amount you are illegible to claim it nor is your work to produce a notary. A mistake of bank or any staff of the bank is not your liability.

Can I deposit a third party check into my account with my phone?

The question was - Can I deposit a third party check into my account with my phone? If you can deposit a check using a mobile app, then if a check is properly endorsed by the party it is made out to and you also endorse it, the check could go through. If you can deposit a check like that in an ATM, and your bank does not prohibit that, then you should be able to deposit it. The best thing to do would be to ask your bank to verify its’ policy. Thanks for the A2A.

Deposited a third party check at chase and it didnt clear?

I am holding my friends check for her in my chase checking account of $9,000 and it didn't clear. Is this because it's not in my name? I did it through the atm. If someone could let me know what to do next that would be great

Reversed ATM deposit?

Saturday 5/1/2010 after my bank, Chevy Chase Bank, had closed, I made an ATM deposit of $358.00 in cash. I've done ATM deposits before without any trouble and expected this one to be the same way. After making the deposit, I was asked if I'd like to make another transaction, I chose no. My debit card was returned, but I didn't get a receipt. So I had to put my card back into the machine and request a balance summary which of course didn't reflect my deposit. I also noticed that this time around a red screen came up with a notice saying that the machine isn't processing deposits at this time (that screen didn't display before the first instance). I called Customer Service and filed a dispute and they said they'll send a technician out and should my deposit be found, I should see it reflect in my account by Tuesday (5/4/2010) night. If course until then there's nothing I or they could do. The issue I have with that is, after this happening to me, I googled similar instances and came across stories where these individuals say the technician never found the envelope, therefor were SOL. That sounds like technicians stealing cash to me. Should that be the case for me, though I hope not, where do I go from there? There's no way in the world that would be the end of the story.

Checking my balance online shows a deposit and withdrawal in the same amount, just about simultaneously.

Can you deposit a handwritten check on a Wells Fargo ATM?

Yes , as I am assuming you are referring to a "personal check" provided by a friend or acquaintance . Any valid check can be deposited into an ATM business or personal. I would, however, to ensure there is no delay in processing verify that all information is correct, there is nothing written or blocking the MICR line, and you have endorsed the back properly. I do not advise 3rd party checks or checks that you need immediate funds on to be presented in the atm. ATM deposits are processed at the discretion of a back office team, no one in a branch can make any adjustments once you deposit into an ATM as far as retrieval of the item or adjusting its availability.
