83 Chevy Not Cranking

454 engine cranks but wont wont start?

Try priming it by pouring a little gas in the carb. If it fires, burns out the prime, and then quits, it isn't getting fuel. Could be filters, gummed up carb, fuel pump, or even out of gas!
If it doesn't fire, chances are you have an ignition problem. Coil, distributor, points, wires, ballast resistor, etc. Rarest problem would be mechanical-something like a sheared off camshaft or broken timing chain, etc., but these things do happen.

92 chevy s10 driver window fell off the track, do i have to take the door apart and how, is this a common prob?

Yes a common issue with vehicles over 20 years old.
It is the guides that have worn. http://cdn0.autopartsnetwork.com/images/...
You may be able to move the window enough to find the holes to pop the new ones in.

If you need to remove the door panel. Remove the screws in the armrest. Push it forward and pull out. Use a trim removal tool ( http://www.buy.com/th/auto-trim-panel.ht... )to remove the window crank retaining clip and remove the crank. Now using the trim tool pop around the edges of the door panel to pop it free.

Place the crank back on and crank down the window until you see the 2 bolts holding the window to the track. 10mm to remove them, then turn the window sideways and pull out. Now is a great time to do some cleaning. Clean the inside of the door out, get some grease in the mechanical components. Clean and scrape the window, install the new guides. Look for rust in the door and sand and prime as need. Put the window back in the same way you got it out. As you get it in you will rotate it and pop the guides into the window track in the door. Reinstall the plastic mounting plate and mount it back in place with the 10mm bolts. MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS NOT BINDING BEFORE YOU CRANK TO HARD. If it feels hard to crank check every thing, do not force it it will shatter. Then just finish re installing as you had removed. You may need to buy replacement door panel clips http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/1/5/7/8/1...

Should I be able to turn the crank on a 454 Chevy Engine?

Been working on a 83 motor home with a Chevy 454. It has been parked for over a year. I pulled the plugs and pour about 12 oz. of Marvel Mystery Oil into the cylinders on Wednesday last week. Today I go and try to turn the motor with a socket and ratchet on the crankshaft and the engine will not budge. I thought that with the plugs out that I should be able to turn this motor with the socket and ratchet. I did get and poured an addtional 64 oz. of Marvel Mystery Oil and will check in a few days. Is there an easier way to turn this motor with out the starter, we want to be sure the rings are not frozen before using the starter itself. Is there an easier way to turn this engine? I do not have a flywheel turning tool.

Thanks for your help.

What is a Chevy 355 engine?

It is a Chevy 350 overbored (0.03 inch) from 4 inch bore of Chevy 350. This adds 5 cubic inches to the original Chevy 350 (which have 3.48 inch stroke). It should make give extra horsepower to that of 350. I am not sure about the horsepower, but here is what I found for several Chevy 3501970s LT-1  (Chevy 350) cranked out 370 horsepower.1982  -  L83  -  205 horsepower L831985 - L98 350 with an all-new tuned-port fuel injection system - 230 horsepower,  1991  - 245 horsepower (Camaro and Pontiac Firebird)  and 250 horsepower (Corvette)For info on Chevy 350, refer to [ref1]References:-[Ref1] Page on motortrend.com[Ref2] Whats the difference 350 vs 355[Ref3] Chevrolet small-block engine

1980s Chevy 350 Exploded view diagram?

I *really* want to help you, but I cannot find the parts manual I know is online.

I've seen it before, and it has an exploded view of the complete engine, each one available that year.

It is for one year between 1987 and 1991 for the R/V series trucks. If your google-fu is better than mine, maybe you can find it. I thought I had the link saved, unfortunately I do not.

Even in 1987 there were some carbureted trucks left (R/V was the "old" body style truck 1987-1991) so it's a good source for what you ask.

You might get lucky trying to google the same "parts manual" for a Corvette, Camaro, or Monte Carlo for the 80's.

Edit: 5 different parts? Really? Lets try Vortec injection starting in 1996 (intake and injection components alone add probably 30+ different parts over a carburetor). Different timing cover. Different distributor. Different plug wires. Crank sensor. Roller camshaft. Roller lifters. Lifter retainers. Guided rocker arms. Different heads. Different valve springs. Oh, and I guess while I'm wasting my time with facts, the SBC in "original" form was installed factory until 2002 in some applications.

Why won't my 83 chevy 6.2 diesel motor start?

the glow plugs work, it cranks over and tries to start but won't. my thought was the injector pump is bad because i checked if it was getting fuel and it is but not much, as if it needs more fuel enable to start. i've got another injector pump I know is good do you think that it will start if i put it on it instead? please let me know any other possibilities there might be.

What would cause my Chevy Small Block 350 to die and not start?

I'm a gm guy…. Been one my whole life. All I have ever owned and driven untill lately are Camaros, z28's to be clear. And an 09 Holden vye SS but not stock it's 408 ci alcohol fed insanity, the only thing stock on it is the body which is fucking nice , go to Mark's 402 g8 on you tube ,that's when it was only making 600 rwhp on 93 with an ls2. Now it makes just south of 1000fwhp, waiting for the new build to come back from machine shop. ( It's elsasser on long island NY this guy knows his shit……..) But I can tell you if you think it's spark it is ignition, and vice versa. Do a diagnosis. Check spark, timing ,fuel and compression. You will find the answer , it's an Otto cycle internal combustion engine.. good luck

83 chevy blazer 350 no spark. PLEASE HELP!!!!?

So here's the story. My little brother got this brilliant idea. He was going to take his 83 blazer and stick a 95 toyota 4 runner cab on it. ( don't ask me why). The motor started and ran fine but when he took the blazer cab off the frame he busted the distributer cap off. Anyway the 4 runner cab is all bolted on, steering and brakes are done and the new distributer cap is on. The starter is wired to the ignition and will crank over but he is not getting any spark. The distributer is plugged into the coil. The engine started and ran before I can't figure out why it won't now. Any help is appreciated.

What are reasons your steering wheel won't lock?

I assume that you are referring to your steering wheel not locking in position after you stop the vehicle and take out the key? There are several possible reasons for this.1. The cog that fits into the detent on the steering column is broken and needs to be replaced.2. The detent on the steering column is worn or broken3. You have not turned the wheel far enough for the cog to find a detent. Pull the wheel first to the left, and then to the right to find the spot.4. The actuator from the solenoid to the cog is broken. To repair this will require the cover on the steering column to be removed, and probably need to have the steering wheel removed as well. Take it to a qualified shop or dealer for this. Incorrect actions could result in damage to the parts, or even the deployment of the air bag on the steering wheel. The exact disassembly required will differ for each manufacturer and possible model of vehicle. If you have a Chilton's manual for your vehicle, you can look up the repair to see what is involve.

Replaced starter but 83 chevy camaro will not start?

I assume it's not turning over [ cranking] ..you need a 12volt test probe. attach lead wire to proper ground. you should have at least 2 main wire,s/cable,s to the main center top terminal of the solenoid.the largest from the positive battery terminal , the smaller to ignition switch for power feed. then a smaller yet to the "S" terminal [ solenoid terminal] on the side of the solenoid rear cap next to but to the side of the top main terminal. it will be marked with a S. all these terminal,s should be hot when the key is in the start position. if not check the following..bad engine ground strap/cable , possible neutral safety switch interference or malfunction , possible defective ignition switch , poor battery connection [ either loose or corroded] , clutch disengagement switch [ if equipped with manual transmission] , possible defective starter [ even though it's new], or defective drive gear/or improper gear to flywheel clearance....it depend,s on what it's doing or not doing...possible seized engine or transmission.....best of luck!
