98 Jeep Grand Cherokee Turns Over But Wont Fire. Plenty Of Gas But Gauge Doesn

My 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee will not start I have to press the gas pedal what"s wrong?

Hi I have to press down the gas pedal for it to start or crank. It sounds like it's choking while my foot is to the pedal. I had to immediately press both the brake and the gas yesterday to get it to leave a parking lot so I just could make it home. My husband said three weeks ago it needed fuel injector cleaner tried that plenty of times and still nothing. I thought it needed a fuel pump he says no. My best friend says she thinks it's the alternator. Someone please help!!!

Can I drive my car with a broken thermostat?

Yes of course you can! And, you may be surprised by just how far you manage to go, before the engine overheats, seizes, and turns into an immovable, useless, expensive to replace, chunk of metal! It’s probably easier to remove the plates, pour gas all over the inside, and light a match—the effect is about the same. Thermostats invariably fail in the “closed” position so the “shelf life” of a car with a bad thermostat is measured in minutes. You need to borrow a car and go buy another thermostat and gasket—-or at least the gasket. Typically, the cover is held on with two bolts, so use a wrench (or pay a mechanic) to remove the bolts, and then the old thermostat. If you haven’t been able to afford a NEW thermostat, use the new gasket to re-install the cover, and don’t drive too far, especially in winter, til you actually get a new thermostat.

Will 12 inch diamond subwoofers fit in a 98 jeep Cherokee?

do some reading on crutchfields website. they will work just fine if you have an aftermarket stereo. if you want to keep the factory stereo then you need a special wiring kit. then you need an amplifier wiring kit with power wire, ground wire, and RCA cables.

What is wrong when the coolant tank starts bubbling after driving your vehicle for a while?

I assume you mean that the coolant is boiling up into and out of the overflow bottle.(picture is of a fancy stainless steel bottle … I have never owned a car with anything other than a plastic one, but they look pretty much like that … and who knew finding a decent photo would be so difficult)So why is your coolant boiling over? Could be:Cooling fan is not running - because:motor brokerelay brokefuse is brokebelt is slipping (if you happen to have a mechanical fan instead of an eletrical one)Water pump is not working - because:motor brokerelay brokefuse is broke (if you happen to have an electrical water pump).belt is slippingRadiator is gacked / corroded and no longer flowingInsufficient coolant - so you don’t have enough material to exchange enough heat … and what you do have is getting boiled … so where did the coolant go? You have a leak somewhere?water pumpradiatorhoseoverflow bottleBad coolant mix (either way too much anti-freeze or none) - this seems unlikely as a sudden onset thing (the chemistry in your cooling system doesn’t just change overnight and many cars will run plenty cool on just water).Cracked head gasket - although you should see coolant / water in the oil and probably be getting smoke out out of the tailpipe (you can usually smell it too) - depends on how bad the crack is I supposeThermostat is broken - this is the thermostat that is inside the engine, and used to either pass collant through the engine block or shunt it from the block (this doesn’t usually present as a boil-over but it could - and it is usually cheap to check and relatively easy fix). All of these things can cause a coolant over-temp … and hence the boil-over into the overflow bottle.

What are the main causes of high oil pressure?

Oil pressure in a car is measured as the resistance to flow between the oil pump in the oil pan and the bearings in the crankshaft. If it is actually too high, it means you are not getting enough oil through the bearings to keep your engine from self destructing. The higher your rpm, the higher your oil pressure, up to the point where an extra valve detours the excess oil back to the oil pan to recirculate. Typically, at idle you will have 10 to 15 psi, with 30 to 40 psi at driving speeds. The colder your engine, the higher your oil pressure, as the oil is still much thicker than it will be at operating temperatures. Typically, on startup, you will have 40 to 60 psi, which will drop to ranges listed above once the engine heats up.A high oil pressure reading on your gauge means:The oil is too viscous (thick). Most cars today are designed for 0W-20 to 5W-30 viscosity. If you are using 10W-40, 20W-50 or something like that, you will have high oil pressure and high wear.Your filter bypass valve on the filter or in the block is stuck closed, and the oil is too thick or dirty to pass through the filter media, trying to go through the bypass valve. If the high pressure is at high rpm, it may be the secondary bypass valve I mentioned at the beginning.Clogged oil passages to the bearings from sludge.Your thermostat is missing or stuck open, not letting the engine heat up.Your gauge is broken. Check it with a manual gauge.

Jeep shut off while driving without warning. Any ideas?

Two things come to mind:

1) The crankshaft position sensor failed. This will render the engine inoperative as the engine management computer has no input for determining crankshaft timing.

2) Your fuel pump quit. This may be because the pump itself failed or the fuse for it blew. Troubleshoot: put the key in the ignition and turn it to the "on" position (the last "click" before the "start" position). Listen for the fuel pump to run for a few seconds as it builds up pressure then shuts off. It might be best to do this with the door closed so you don't have the buzzer going off while you listen.

If you don't hear the pump, then it may be a blown fuse. Under the hood is an electrical distribution box ...it says "Fuses" on it. Pop it open, look at the underside of the cover for the "map" and find the fuse for the fuel pump. Pull it and evaluate. If it's blown ...give a sigh of relief ...then replace it. If the fuse is good check the dash fuse panel at the drivers side of the dash. If you're lucky, it is just a blown fuse. If all the fuses look good then the pump motor has died and will need replacing. The gas tank will need to be dropped to replace the pump.

If the pump runs ...you hear it momentarily ...then chances are it is the crankshaft position sensor. This is a relatively common occurrence and the repair is not that difficult ....it seems not a matter of if but when. If you are handy you could do it yourself. The part is not that expensive. The worst part of the repair is the location of the sensor itself. You can find info on "Jeep 4.0L CPS replacement" on the net ...probably even find some pictures and a "how to" tutorial.
