A Question For All You Bookworms

Bookworm riddle........?

8 inches.

When the books are placed on the shelf, the first page of volume 1 is 2.25 inches from the left, so the worm goes through only .25 inch of the front cover though vol.1, volumes 2,3,4 are 7.5 inches total, then to get to the last page of vol. 5 the worm goes through only .25 inch of the back cover.

.25 + 7.5 + .25 = 8 inches

Question about a hungry bookworm?

There is a bit of a trick to this question. When you put a book on a shelf, the front cover ends up being to the *right* and the back cover is to the *left*.

So when the bookworm is eating, he doesn't have to eat through any the pages of volume 1 or any of the pages of volume n.

PART A:

For the pages, he has to eat through n-2 volumes.
For the covers, he needs to eat through 1 for the outer volumes (1 and n) and 2 covers for all the ones in the middle. That's a total of 2 + 2(n-2) covers.
2 + 2n - 4
= 2n - 2

Let's call the thickness of the cover c.
Let's call the thickness of the pages p.

Distance for covers:
(2n - 2)c

Distance for pages:
(n - 2)p

Answer:
(2n - 2)c + (n - 2)p

PART B:
n = 13
c = 1/8
p = 1

Distance is:
(2(13) - 2)*1/8 + (13 - 2)*1
24 * 1/8 + 11 * 1
= 3 + 11
= 14

Answer:
14 inches

What made you a bookworm?

My parents never encouraged me to read. They had very little education. I rarely saw my mum read because she had so little in education. I saw my dad read newspapers now and again, yet never books. I was at a huge disadvantage at school due to this.I was introduced to personal development in June 2011, since then, I have invested daily time to read self help books. I have read 52 so far.I have made consistent progress and achieved many big and small goals since 2011. I am fulfilling my goals and dreams. I conquered my fear of flying from reading “Feel the fear and do it anyway by Susan Jeffers”. I flew to Barcelona in 2012, Cologne in 2013, Sydney and Hong Kong in 2015 and this month back to Hong Kong again.I attracted my soul mate, best friend in 2014 and we are in a long distance relationship. He was attracted to me because I had made great progress in my life. We are now taking our long distance relationship to the next level, planning on living in the same city and getting married.I have eliminated toxic and negative people from my life in order to focus on achieving my goals. I limit the time I spend with toxic members of family. I surround myself with light minded and positive people in order to keep my happiness at a high level. I stopped watching or listening to the news as it is toxic and creates fear. It also distracts me from focusing on my goals. I am very aware of what I spend my valuable time on. I limit my time on the Internet.I am currently working on fulfilling my biggest dream ever, which is to become a public speaker. I joined Toastmasters in February this year, after I read “Make a great speech by Jackie Arnold”. Toastmasters is a non profit organisation that educates its members on public speaking skills as well as leadership skills. I attend weekly meetings, take on various roles within each meeting to develop my leadership skills. I have delivered my fourth prepared speech to date. I am gaining much confidence in impromptu speeches.I lost my big brother to a very sudden death in November 2013. I was devastated because he was my one and only lifetime companion. I lost a huge part of myself. I learned emotional intelligence from my personal development and this helped me to get through the most darkest days of my biggest loss. Thank goodness I gradually found myself again and got back onto my feet.

Bookworms are attractive and desirable????

I asked my husband about this one. I am beyond a bookworm bordering on a straight nerd. But, people find me very attractive (or so they say) and I have never had a problem with dating or social scenes. I find, except for people who are insecure that the combination of brains and physical appeal is pretty much a knockout punch. My husband says that my looks caught him but my brain hooked him. He loves to say to people, I'm not sure..but let me ask my wife, she'll know. We have (10 years later) great conversations all the time and in those moments when he feels uncomfortable not being informed a topic he always knows he can come home to me and we can talk about it casually and comfortably and he will walk away informed and able to have that same conversation with other people. The flip side is he knows more than I do about more practical, earthy, "cool" stuff and has made me more comfortable and knowledgable about those things which has opened up a whole new avenue of fun for me. Hell, I even know what a 2 point conversion is now! Go for the bookworm. Brains and beauty...what could be better?

Are All Bookworms, Nerds, Or Are All Nerds, Bookworms ?

I'm more of a bookworm.... I would consider a nerd more of a person that is proactively gaining knowledge and trying to figure things out. Bookworms read just for entertainment value and happen to learn as they go along.

What is the highest level of Bookworm called?

The highest level on Bookworm is "Supreme".
