How much have cigarettes messed up my lungs? I am only 15, but have been smoking half my life.?

I have been smoking cigarettes sense I was 7 but did not become a daily smoker until I was 11. I have been smoking a pack a day sense I was 13. (I am Canadian- so that is 25 cigarettes in a pack. Not 20 like in most places.)

I tried to quit because everyone is fed up. My friends, family, my girlfriend.

Before you say it is not legal... no it is not illegal in Canada for minors to smoke. I just cannot directly purchase them from a store. Our high schools even still have outdoor smoking areas.

But yeah.....How addicted am I? Like, I tried over 10 times, and I just can't give them up. Am I already as bad as those life long smokers? I sure hope not! And..How much damage has it done? If I quit how long until my lungs and stuff are normal again? Thanks!

Would running help reverse the damage done on your lungs from smoking marijuana?

i have been a weed smoker to the point where my lungs would produce thick mucus every 30–40 minutes constantly; i was smoking 5–6 times a day. lungs would constantly hurt. the pain was worst during alergy seasons. when i went to see doctor during one of those allergy times, he prescribed me antibiotics and steroids. i wouldnt stop smoking eventhough i had bad lungs. i would find ways to make smoke inhale cooler by smoking on bong with ice where smoke would pass through ice and it helped a lot for pain, but mucus was still same. i would probably died had i not been a everyday runner.i was smoking to the point where i could guess that everytime i spit i could guess the color of mucus, and compare it to how different it were in different times of day (like when i was not smoking, example middle if work during day versus morning and night)then time came where i didnt feel high; or very short high. i’d feel more pain then get high. i’d inhale little smoke and more air, just to be able to inhale the smoke. surely, i wanted to stop smoking by now, because i would sometimes cough and see few blood spots in my cough. i wanted to quit, but i was an addict. i’d still run everyday though.finally i went on a cruise and since it was disney cruise and i was with kids, and since it just was a different experience, my mind was diverted a little, and thought of needing to smoke slowly faded. my kids and half of people in the ship including myself has allergy already. so during that 4 days trip, i smoked only once a day, and last day, since i had to take flight back home, my mind was occupied on disembarking the ship, catching the bus to the airport, 5–6 hour in the airport cause my flight wasnt till evening, and events like this just occupied my mind, and i didnt have any urge to smoke that day. i was also by now determined that i needed to take a break, since i was hardly getting high off smoking weed.so i stopped smoking, ya, its been 4 months now.my lungs has improved drastically in the past 4 month. i run every day. first few days, i could tell/experience that i was spitting much of the clog from the lungs. now i feel like my lungs has healed. running can reverse the damage caused by weed smoking; i truly believe from my experience. i dont spit / cough anymore. lungs seems great, although i havent caught any allergy since i quit smoking. i feel a lot better and healthier. i just hope i dont catch up to smoking again soon; cause i am an addict

How much damage have I done and how much can be reversed if I've smoked for five years?

My understanding is - and you may want to seek some scientific verification of this - that one can undo some of the damage done by smoking in the way of lung capacity reduction through exercise. The cancer damage is likely irreversible, so don't waste your time worrying about it. Make sure you consume foods with antioxidants and phytochemicals to reduce your risk of cancer as much as possible. As usual, the answer to your medical question is "healthy diet and exercise." Enjoy life, eat well, stop worrying. You already did an incredible thing by quitting in the first place.

How much damage does smoking for 6 months cause to your lungs?

There is no safe dose of cigarette smoke. Your risk of suffering significant consequences with such a brief exposure should be no more than 1–3% at most.Congrats on quiting, great work! You should be fine. There is no sense in worrying about it as you have done all you can do.Below are a few facts about the lungs that are commonly misunderstood. The surface epithelium of the conducting airways can rejenerate up to a point. This has to do with changes in the surfuce pseudostratified columnar epithelium. Once irratated long enough typically by cig smoke, they do not rejenerate. The bulk of the lungs, the alveoli, and supporting tissues which when destroyed emphysema develops, among other conditions that damage the “meat” of the lung, none of this regenerates to any notable degree. In a few words, the lungs do not regenerate.Another misnomer is that exercising the lungs can improve lung function. This belief is 100% false, and unsubstantiated. The lungs are not a muscle. You cannot “train up” the lungs. Bronchitis symptoms “may” improve once one quits smoking.

How many years of smoking will it take to get lung cancer?

It's not based on the number of years you smoke but how your cells change. There are people who smoke their whole lives and never get cancer. There are others that never smoke or only smoke for a short time who do get it. The best thing for you to do would be to quit...your chances of developing lung cancer drop dramatically just from quitting.

What are the effects of smoking for 5 years?

Cigarettes contain tobacco along with a number of harmful chemicals, which not only affects the smoker but nonsmokers as well. Breathing even a little tobacco smoke can be harmful. There are more than 7,000 chemicals in tobacco smoke, at least 250 are known to be harmful, including hydrogen cyanide, carbon monoxide, and ammonia. Among the 250 known harmful chemicals in tobacco smoke, at least 69 can cause cancer. These cancer-causing chemicals include the following:Acetaldehyde, Aromatic amines, Arsenic, Benzene, Benzo[α]pyrene, Beryllium (a toxic metal), Formaldehyde, Nickel (a metallic element), Polonium-210 (a radioactive chemical element), Tobacco-specific nitrosamines, Vinyl chloride, etc.Smoking for a year or more will show on your skin. It can make you look weak and exhausted all the time, your lips will turn black. Besides these physical effects there will be a number of internal problems related to respiratory issues, cardiovascular problems, and lung diseases. Smoking cigarettes and burning tobacco cause several problems, it doesn’t matter you’ve been smoking for 1 year or 10 years, the problems can be cause anytime depending on the severity of smoking or the effects being caused in your body. The best way to reverse the effect of smoking is by switching to vaping.
