Alienware Graphics Card Upgrade Help

Alienware x51 Graphics Card Upgrade?

I know some of you guys are going to criticize me for having an Alienware but my mom bought it for me for christmas last year (and she usually thinks, if its expensive then it is good even if the cheaper price has the same specs like I told her but she went with it anyways) so I didn't really have any choice and it was way better than my old pc which was my mom's old office pc btw. So my alienware x51 R1 has a GT 545 graphics card and a 240w psu. I am going to upgrade my power supply to a 330w since thats the maximum I can get for a x51 but the problem lies with the graphics card. The best possible graphics card I can get is the GTX 660/660ti and the Alienware Support team recommends it along with a few others. The problem is that I don't understand why they are recommending this product when it says it requires a minimum power supply of 450w when the maximum you can get for the x51 is 330w. Won't this have heat problems? Some people say it works fine but there are also a few poor souls that say that their games keep crashing. I am also considering the GTX 750ti which is slightly less powerful than the 660 but only requires a minimum of 300w but the support team never mentioned it so I am confused whether or not it is a good idea to purchase it because obviously I want the most powerful card I can get.

So I was wondering if I should go the safe route with the 750ti but slightless powerful or the 660/660ti route which is more powerful but there is a chance my pc will crash.

Upgrading graphics card on alienware m15x?

The 260m GTX is weak?! I guess you have pretty high standards (it's not weak)... No, you can't send it in for an upgrade. Once it left their warehouse, they washed their hands with you. If you don't do it yourself, you're out of luck bro.

I know Alienware did provide instructions on the manufacturers site for upgrading, repairing, etc. They may still have it. More than likely though, you're stuck with the card, and there's no way of gettin' a new one unless you buy a higher end model

Edit: Ohh... You're talkin' about the M15x? You're chasing a dream my friend. The best you can get for that is the 260m GTX. The chassis for M15x is too small to handle any higher end cards so get SLI/Crossfire out of your head. And, the 280m GTX and up run too hot for less that 17" chassis... There's not enough ventilation and the components are too close together so they'll melt down; not to mention thermal cooling too.

You're definitely stuck with what you have. The 260m GTX is great card to 15" notebooks. The most powerful. And you're running games maxed (except Crysis), so if I were you I would stop complaining or save up for a high end Asus or Sager, skip Alienware's expensive but weak components.

Can I upgrade the graphics card on Alienware m17x r5?

Assuming you mean the m17 r5 or the m17x r4, then yes Eurocom Model Upgrade. You might need to do some bios updates but you can upgrade all the way to a 980m.

I'm thinking of upgrading my Nvidia GeForce GT 545 to a good Nvidia GTX graphics card. I need to know my options because my PC model isn't the largest there is.
Anyone know the highest series Nvidia GTX grpahics card compatible with this machine.

Can I upgrade my Alienware M11x R3?

You can get replacement parts, but a new laptop of the same price as said parts will likely outperform any configuration of that model due to it being so outdated. If you can lose the laptop convenience and get a desktop you will have much better value for money. If you have to get a laptop look for used options with at least a gtx 960m for good value gaming

Is it possible to upgrade Alienware laptop graphics?

No you cant, whoever is saying that you can just does not know anything about the new versions of the alienware laptops. The GPU are soldered onto the motherboard, so you can't just swap them out for something better. What you can do is use an eGPU, using something like Alienware Graphics Amplifier or Razer Core (using tb3) and install an external GPU.

Is the Alienware Alpha R1's GPU upgradable?

Yes and no.If you want a just straight replacement, swap part for part, close it up, done? No.If you aren’t scared of taking things apart, and having external components though, there is a way. It involves removing your wifi card, and using the slot it was in, an adapter, and an external power supply to set up a graphics card through it. Rather than explain it in detail, here’s a video showing you how it’s done.

If you upgrade the GPU on an Alienware Alpha, are you limited to only certain GPU’s because big ones won’t fit in that tiny box?

I don’t own one. But I know what you’re talking about. The gpu I believe is soldered onto the board and there is no pci-e slot to put in your own. You’re stuck with the gpu that is in it. Which is a GeForce GTX 860M graphics card with 2GB of GDDR5.The best you can do is add an I7 processor for that socket and upgrade the ram in it.Another thing. I believe you can put windows on it. So if you do that then you can sign up for Geforce Now (GeForce NOW Wait List) and get on the wait list. When you get the invite then you can stream the games using nvidia tesla gpu’s if you have a decent internet connection.
