Am I Doing Enough To Prepare Myself For Medical School Applications

I'm 17..what do i need to be doing now to prepare myself for the medical field, besides doing good in school?

If you are interested in radiology, I would recommend learning as much about physics as possible! X-rays are created by shooting radiation through soft and hard tissues in your body, and whatever radiation was not absorbed/reflected by your internal organs gets deposited on film. Wilhelm Conrad Rontgen won a Nobel Prize in physics in 1901 for his discovery of X-rays. Clinically based Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) essentially images the amount of hydrogen you have in your body (in the form of water and fat). The technology depends on the magnetic moment of hydrogen. Peter Mansfield and Paul Lauterbur, the developers of MRI, won a Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2003 for their work. However, their work depended on the work of I.I. Rabi who examined magnetic moments of atoms (he also won a Nobel Prize in 1944 in physics)

Clearly, it not enough to "be good in school" or ace your bio/chem/orgo classes. Being able to understand the basic principles behind how the equipment works will benefit you greatly. I would feel uneasy if my radiologist told me to get into the "magic black box" to get some images! In addition, by understanding the physics behind the machinery, you may be able to develop new diagnostic techniques.

How do I prepare for a data scientist interview?

I’ve run a cognitive computing company, Coseer for the last six years. We focus on providing AI and NLP solutions to Fortune 500s in a variety of industries from healthcare to finance. During this time, I’ve worked closely with a wide variety of data science teams as a client and as an employer.Alya Abbot points out that there are two main types of data science roles, one focused on statistics, the other on machine learning. I will speak to roles related to machine learning.Let me answer this question as an interviewer.Over the years, I’ve found that the most discerning discussion with data science candidates happens when we ask them for the best algorithm given a specific problem with a specific volume of training data.Candidates who have solid experience working on data science problems know that:Many real-world problems don’t actually need very sophisticated algorithms; there may be no need for AI at all. Many situations that don’t fall under the above category are starved of data and need creative solutions. For example, deep learning, which performs well on image data, is unsuited for most natural language-related use cases. In asking an open-ended question, candidates have a chance to showcase their thought process and highlight any lessons learned through past experience. It’s a great prompt to get the ball rolling as there’s no right or wrong answer, and it’s thought-provoking for all parties. If I were you, I’d spend some time thinking at this higher-level rather than just preparing for the nitty-gritty details.Best of luck to you!

I keep peeing on myself?!?

If your suddenly extremely sexually active that might have something to do with it. Or else you might have urinary retention, just see a doctor about this being as your not pregnant, but if you've had children that's a common cause of it. Anyway, kegals can really help you to have more control over your little accidents. Until then, use a maxi for heavy flow or buy some Poise pads until you get it took care of.

How should we prepare for the GATE in 2020?

Its GOOD you have made your mind for GATE as early as possible.First of all be clear yourself what mode of preparation you are looking for GATE and narrow to the one that suits your academic profile and day to day activities. →If you are someone who works its obviously non business hours best for your preparation.→ Being a student you have an extra edge you can prepare for your Graduation and GATE parallely→ There are many coaching modules available**Classroom Coaching****Online Coaching****Distance Learning****Test Series**→ Choose one of the module which suits you the best.▌—- If you wanted to prepare on your own—-▌Note down the syllabus for your GATE paper with weightage (Syllabus remains the same more or less, every year).. Note down your best scoring areas. Generally there will be minimum 30% of questions from Engineering Mathematics and General Ability. Concentrate more on them, as it helps you crack other competitive exams too along with GATE.Plan your schedule try to prepare for 1hour in weekdays and minimum 3hours in weekends.Just to check how much you have covered try to discuss the concepts with friends or seniors to get a clarity where you stand in preparation.Take a test series from all possible institutes and attempt them. Give section or Unit test once you are done with preparation of the specific section/unit.Be confident yourself and try to avoid negative marking. Its best to keep yourself with calm mind and focused to attain good rank.▌—- If you are preparing joining any Institute —-▌Half of your preparation depends on the Institute you choose, be wise enough take your time and choose the Best institute, which have largest classroom chain, Best in class faculty, Best Test series with more number of tests.Make sure to list out all the doubts you have in class and get them clarified at the end of every calss. Its better to write running notes even though you will be provided with some printed study material. (Things which we write on our own makes more impact on memory than what we read a printed one) .Attempt section test or unit test at the end of every section and unit.Take as many Full Length Syllabus Tests as possible so that you will be getting used to the actual 3hour GATE Pattern.whatever be your mode of preparation at the end its you who have to be confidant and focused. All the best :)

How can I change my life to get out of a four-year depression? I haven’t been able to lose weight, I’ve distanced myself from my friends, I’m constantly alone, and my girlfriend of three years just ended it.

Easy answer: Just do it.Harder answer: Create a detailed  plan or series of plans on how you are going to change your life. Closely follow that plan(or plans) and change or adapt them to whatever circumstances arise.Set some milestones and carefully measure your progress by them.Hardest answer:Immediately discontinue any and all behaviors which which you know (or feel) are holding you down or back. Do not revisit them ever again.Move from your present location and only return to your former home if you are there to visit family or close friends.Quit your job and find a new one or transfer within your company to a new position elsewhere.End your current relationship unless you are getting everything that you need from it. Never again enter a similar relationship.Create an exceptionally detailed plan for your life going forward. Make certain that you only deviate from that plan for health reasons (yours or your family members) and set a series of goals and objectives to meet by certain periods of time.If you don't work out, start. If you do, then train in other areas to increase your level of fitness.Change your diet completely. Eat only healthy foods and drink only in moderation,if at all. Do not use illegal drugs.Get routine medical and dental checkups on a strict schedule and pay close attention to what your are told by your physician. Seek out second opinions on critical medical news and make certain that you live a "healthy" lifestyle.Pursue your education. Obtain the most education that your able to and learn as much as possible. Make it a priority in your life if it isn't currently. If you are married, work on the marriage. If you're in a relationship, strongly consider marriage. If things are not heading in that direction, end it. Marriage is more stable than most other relationships. If you have children make certain that you are doing all that you can to love and nurture them. Make your family the highest priority, even more than yourself. All of the above will "change" your life. All of the above require self-sacrifice.If you are willing to change you must accept self-sacrifice as being the cost. If you cannot, then you are unwilling or unready to change.

What happened to the smartest student in your high school?

The smartest girl in the school was smart because she was an all-rounder. Good at all subjects, multi-talented and very quick to learn and adapt to a task. But above all, she was incredibly obedient. She learned how to read the mood and to please people. She never argued or stated her opinions boldly. She received her work, completed them and submitted them on time, just like she was supposed to. The teachers loved her. To them, she had no flaws. Perfect grades in every single subject, a hard worker, never one to refuse instructions, punctual, polite and capable. Then as quickly as it came, high school ended and so did her golden era. She entered university abroad under a prestigious scholarship and realised that the real world does not need another mindless factory worker. She was a follower, always blindly following instructions and rules but in reality, life was more than just predetermined guidelines. She had to learn to stand on her two own feet and make decisions. Big decisions that could ultimately paved her path to happiness and success or lead her to ruin. But what is success really? And what is happiness. She had lived her life before neither in misery, nor in happiness. She had no idea what they meant. But now, she felt misery. Utter, perplexing misery. She fell into a deep hole and felt no strength to get up and climb out. They was no one to tell her what to do. She was a good person, so why was she so useless now?But that’s exactly it. She was good in everything. Able to perform whatever that she was told to do. But now she has to choose. One thing to be good at. One path to dedicate her life too.And damn it. It was so hard to decide.University life was not like high school at all.The professors won’t like you just because you submitted the assignment on time. The subjects were too detailed. She got constantly distracted, wishing she could learn something else by now.Once she graduated, average in her class, she realised that most companies turned their backs on her applications, because she claimed that she was an ‘all-rounder’. They don’t need an all rounder. Her less smarter high school friends got jobs, settled down, bought a house, got married, raised kids but she still couldn’t move on from high school. She was flighty, indecisive, easily bored. She wanted to be great but the world wanted her to focus on one thing and be great at that. Finally she succumbed and stayed at home, hidden behind a computer screen, typing out answers on Quora.

Nearly everyone called in sick today - how pissed off do you think I am ?

Just had major surgery cancelled at the very last minute, because my surgeon could not find enough staff. Went into the Royal Free yesterday, nothing to eat after 6am today, nothing to drink after 11, I am sitting there in my surgical gown, elastic stockings, waiting. Eventually the surgeon came at 1.30 and said she was sorry, nearly everyone had called in sick and she could not get a good enough team together to do my op. She said she would not be happy with fewer than 3 skilled assistants, (It's a long and complex op.) and she had phoned around various hospitals, but did not want to do a job like this with people she'd not worked with before.

She was really decent and sympathetic, and I respect her reasoning. Instead she spent the afternoon doing smaller ops with a smaller team. She has promised me January 7th. I'm grateful she was honest enough not to proceed and to explain why. But can the entire womens' surgical team (apart from one) really all fall sick on the same day?

What are the things your parents did that you will never do to your kids or future kids?

I wouldn't force religion on my kids.My parents are very good Muslims. When I was a kid, I had an Islamic teacher who would come to teach me the holy Quran everyday for an hour after my school. I knew I was learning Arabic, but I was only learning, I wasn't understanding. Well, they thought they were doing the right thing. Unfortunately, it worked only until I did not question. I was taught that if you don't pray, you'll burn in hell. I was taught if you don't obey, you'll be made to walk on a hot knife. I was taught that elders are always right. I was taught that God punishes. I was taught never to question when I asked "why would Allah punish me if he created me"I would teach my kids my religion, but always reason things with them. Make them understand what any religion stands for, make them understand all religions have the same message, make them ask me questions and teach them the values of right and wrong, not on the basis of fear, but on the basis of conscious. By not saying you shouldn't hurt someone because you'll burn in hell, but by asking them "would you want someone to do that to you?"There are no bad religions, it's the people who make a religion bad. Religion are a set of rules we make to keep our human side alive, to believe that there's always someone out there, ready to listen to us, to give us hope for survival.People are making religion the root cause of so many problems. I'll make sure my kids know what path they are choosing. I wish my parents taught me that way, but hey, never too late to make that change :)
