Amount Of Time To Change A Transmission In A 97 Dodge Caravan I Already Did It Don

Adding transmission fluid to Dodge Grand Caravan?

Where you check it is also where you add it. You just need a funnel.

Now, did you check the fluid correctly? The proper way to check it is as follows.

Start engine.
Allow engine to warm to operating temp.
While the engine is running, pull dipstick, wipe, reinsert, pull and check. This will give you the correct level.

The hash marks or level marks on the dipstick represent one pint. If the level is at the low p point, add ine pint, give it a minute to warm up, check again.

1997 Dodge grand caravan leaking oil?

The oil level in all engines is below the oil pan gasket and main seals. If your engine leaks when not running, that indicates it's leaking from either the oil pan drain plug or at the oil filter. There's a good chance the shop didn't properly tighten the plug or the filter, or you need a new drain plug gasket. Also, you may want to check your owner's manual about service periods. We've got a '98 Ranger, and Ford recommends oil changes every 5,000 miles. Most engines can do this because they're made to tighter tolerances with CNC machines, and it's unnecessary to prematurely change oil.

What could be causing metal shavings in a transmission pan?

I can assume you've dropped the pan on your transmission ...really the only way to see the metal "dust" in the pan. Since you are talking about a pan, I'll also assume you're dealing with an automatic transmission. Some of this is normal wear. If this is the first time the pan has been dropped since the vehicle was new, there's a good chance all that fine metal powder that's collected on the pan magnet was from the break in period. And there'll be some small amount just as a function of normal wear. You have multiple clutches and gear sets regularly and constantly engaging and meshing. There will always be some level of fine metal powder stuck to the magnet. Now "shavings" are a different thing. If what you have is a powder-fine deposit of metal clinging to the pan magnet that's normal. If you have actual shavings ...chunks, bits and stuff that are larger than fine powder ...then you have some potential issues. How old is this tranny? Mileage? Do you use the vehicle for towing?Actual "shavings" are a sign of some internal wear above what would be considered normal. The actual cause, if these are actual shavings, could be from a lot of things ...none of them good.

What motor oil should I use for my 1997 dodge grand caravan?

It's a 1997 Dodge Grand Caravan 3.0L V6. It has 177,000 miles on it. I have a bottle of SAE 10W-30 sitting in the garage.... what grade oil should I use? I just got an oil change not long ago and want to top it off because I'm getting clicking/rattling noises from the engine.

If i put stop leak in my car to stop the transmission from leaking oil how long will the car last?

Instant fixes in a bottle are generally never an answer to any problem. They simply create their own problems on the long term.

If you've got a large leak from somewhere like your dipstick tube, no leak sealer in a bottle is going to fix that.

I'm not familiar with the specific application, but I would think there is a grommet and/or gasket that could be replaced for the mating of the tube and transaxle case without replacing the entire transmission as you were told. Unless of course, the transmission is getting problematic...whereas that makes a whole new case for either a new transmission or new vehicle.

Dodge Caravan Oil question?

its actually 4.5 quarts and the factory does recommend a good 5-w-30 weight oil in that one at all times,if your over 125 thousand id go with a good 10-w-30 in it,i use pennzoil in everything i own and have had no problems from it at all and you can use a fram filter with it and get real good service from them both, good luck

How long can a dodge caravan live?

It's a 97 dodge grand caravan. It has about 157,000 miles on it and as far as I know it has the original engine and transmission. I've only had it for a year but so far I've never had any problems getting it to start. I have had some problems with it accelerating and a mechanic told me that the transmission was okay but the pistons might be cloggins. I also need the back breaks fixed (I got the breaks and rotors for the front but I couldn't afford the other $250 for the back). Would it be worth fixing it? I guess my real question is how many miles would can a caravan get before it's completely worthless? If it helps, I have less than $4000 to spend on another car or get this one fixed.

How do i change a automatic dodge neon to a manual?

yes its more than possible i have done it before, but what we do is find a an old neon that is wrecked, because you have to change the transmission as well as the computer and the wiring harness on it,and the pedals on it,but its real hard to do if you have another car to work with,i have done a total of three of those before, and its a lot of work ,but to some its worth it,others will go out and trade cars to get a standard shift car, once you get it done though its fun to drive, and you can say i did it myself, since you have a parts car,all you need to do is park both side by side ,and start changing parts out,it will take you about a week of work to do this, but its very possible ,the cost will be low to you because there's probably very little that you will have to buy, maybe a clutch and pressure plate ,the rest of it is taking your time with it,and it doesn't hurt to have someone to help you also some of this requires some lifting and pulling an tugging on things, but i think you could do it,you have nothing to loose from it but time, good luck with it,id like to know how it turns out,let us know when you get done, good luck.
