Antique Export Rules And Regulation. I Want To Sell Antique On Ebay And On My Website. Do I Need To

I have a Chinese antique that I want to sell online, but it is located in China. How should I sell it?

The only way is to first get it out of CHina, which can be done easily by using ebay's return policy. Send the pics to a seller in the US, have them list it as a Buy It Now. Have your friend in China BUY IT. Ship a box with some kind of cheap piece in it, then have the person in China file for a return. Put the good piece in the box, show the export folks the picture of the eBay purchase whihc will match what you are sending and off it goes...easy as pie. They have been doing this there for the last 10 years...

I want to start an e-commerce site to sell antiques to customers abroad from India. What are the government regulations and registrations that I have to overcome?

You may have to contact Export department in the government about it. You can also contact international courier service provider like Fedx to get quick idea about International Export of Antiques. I think there are certain guidelines which you need to follow if you want to deal in antiques.BTW I also provide E-commerce solutions. Where can I sell antique ivory without documentation, or where do I get the needed documentation?

The first answer has correct details, although much of the laws worldwide relate to the importing or exporting of ivory. Often the age and CITES documentation are irrelevant, there are many places where it’s illegal for any ivory to cross borders. It’s also nearly impossible to sell any ivory online. Particularly through the most well known sites. There was a complete ban a couple of years ago although it has been loosened somewhat now, and you can sell bone and some ivory under the right circumstances. However there are plenty of ways to legally sell ivory domestically. You will have to check your country, but in Australia at least there is no problem selling it locally as long as it’s already in the country. (It needs to date prior to 1975, but you don’t necessarily need proper documentation. An antique trader can give their expert opinion that it is an old piece, which is considered enough proof.). So antique shops and auction rooms can sell ivory legally, and regularly do. They just can’t post it out of the country. The police are able to confiscate any ivory offered for sale, although this very rarely happens. It’s then up to the owner to provide proof that it is an old piece, otherwise it will be destroyed. As stated though, the proof doesn’t have to be official CITES papers, it can be an expert opinion. You really shouldn’t have any problem trying to sell them. Contact local auction rooms or antique dealers and ask if they can help. You may not get top dollar but if you really want to sell them it’s the best way.None of this is qualified legal advice, only my understanding of it! Every country has different interpretations, but I think you will find it quite easy to sell.

I want to start selling handicrafts online on EBay, but not sure of shipping methods available here in India.?

Yes you can do it.

To sell international use branded courier companies like UPS FEDEX.

Well diff destinations have diff tariffs & hence check out which is best from your area to the destinations.

for eg: I am from mumbai & sending stuff to south america UPS is good for me & for USA ...fedex is better. so do ur trial & error & find which is cheaper for u from ur state.

secondly handicrafts have a big demand in USA. & u have very good margins so u will surely make money.

ebay does not take care of ur shipment nor do they sell for u.
they are just a auctions listing website & do a work like a broker.

Hope that answers ur question.

I am author of bpopark.com Plz do visit my site & leme know how u feel in the forum section.

Is there any way to report a listing violation at eBay for a reproduction listing in an antique catagory?

How can I report a listing that appears to be violating eBay rules and policies?

You can report what you believe to be a violation either from a specific policy Help page or by clicking on Contact Us on the left side of any Help page and choosing the appropriate topics. To learn about the type of offenses eBay investigates, see Reporting Inappropriate Trading Behavior.

To report a policy offense:

1. Locate and review the appropriate policy from eBay Listing Policies.

2. After reviewing the policy, click the “Report” link on the Help page to report an item that has violated the policy (see examples below). Or, click the “Contact Us” link on the left side of any Help page, select Listing Violations and choose the appropriate topics.

3. Enter the item number(s) of the listing you wish to report.

4. Click the Send button to send your message to eBay Customer Support.

Note: Please report a case once. Multiple emails about the same case slow an investigation.

Examples of common listing violations

Keyword Spamming (inappropriate use of keywords)

Excessive Shipping and Handling

Intellectual Property Infringements (VeRO) (intellectual property rights owner can report of potentially infringing items or listings)

For other types of violations involving selling, buying, and feedback, see Reporting Inappropriate Trading Behavior
After your report is received

eBay will consider the circumstances of an alleged policy violation and the user's trading record before taking action.

Disciplinary action may result in a formal warning, cancelled listings, temporary selling restriction, or indefinite suspension.

If a complaint can't be proven with certainty, or if eBay feels that a violation has not occurred, eBay may take no action.

Due to privacy laws eBay cannot follow up and let you know the status of your report or inform you of any action we might have taken.

Where can I sell antique ivory jewelry?

Jewelry is one of the prettiest products to make a business out of. An online jewelry business will allow you to reach a broader customer base, but be forewarned that competition is stiff. You can be successful, though, as long as you have quality merchandise to offer and enough extra time to spend on making your business appealing to Internet shoppers. I also deal with the selling of products online. I sell my products on Export Portal. I have registered on Export Portal immediately after I found out the story of a successful businessman who expanded and developed his business through this trading platform. This is a great online shop which connects thousands of manufacturers and sellers, motivating them to set up new export businesses. Try to register at least. Wish you good luck!

How would someone go about starting up in the vintage/antique furniture resale business?

I’ve always wanted to establish an antiques and furniture resale business, and I’ve done some research and thinking about it. I have a web site for antiques but I don’t deal in furniture because it’s difficult to ship.I have had other businesses though, and as for any business, I recommend you start with a comprehensive business plan, including competitive analysis, the economics of the business (what margins you expect, what are costs and expenses and projected income, how will you finance start-up costs, etc.) A lot of retail storefront antiques businesses have folded in the last five years, so you should look very carefully at all the operating costs before taking the leap.If I was going to start a business like this today, here is what I would do:Unless you have money to burn, I wouldn’t locate in a high traffic urban retail area. Operating costs will make it very hard for you to be profitable. Instead, locate the business within reasonable distance of a hip, affluent, urban area. Be within a 90 minute drive, preferably less, of the people who want and can afford your inventory.Plan for a large showroom. Whatever it is you focus on, you’ll need plenty of space for a few couches, a few chairs, a couple of tables and accessories. This is another reason for locating outside of a high density retail area to an area where there are warehouses and industrial buildings. (This can also lead to a pretty cool setting for your showroom, if you intend to have one.)As other have suggested, be careful of the refinishing/refurbishing end of things, particularly with large, expensive, designer pieces. Focus your energy on finding and offering examples that are stunning in the first place. You will rarely recover the costs of refurbishing a piece of furniture and when you’re done it’s no longer original. You could, however, establish relationships with upholsters and painters who you can refer work to.Be knowledgable. Watch the trends in Architectural Digest and elsewhere and buy the pieces that are in demand and will turn over easily. You’ll need to be looking for stock all the time, on line, at auctions, on Craigslist, at Goodwill. You can find mid-century modern almost anywhere. I recently bought a great smoked grey glass swag lamp for $10 at the flea market.Buy a truck big enough to carry a few items. The cost of hiring someone to deliver furniture will kill your profits.

What items sell best on eBay?

I find repeatable products are more profitable. For me, I do not want to spend a lot of time doing a listing by taking a picture and having to write a title, description and set up shipping. If you are going to be doing a lot of listing, then have a shipping profile/template set up so that you can reduce the time it takes to make a decision on what to charge for shipping. Try and stick to specific shipping methods. Like my wife does a lot with the Flat rate Priority mailers as you can get a lot in there for 1 flat rate. But, if you are selling lighter, smaller items, then you need established prices for those as you do not want to have to weigh each item and then go through a series of steps to figure out which package it sells in.Look at the following costs when determining profits. Look at your total sourcing costs. Many people have no clue of the costs. Typically, when I have discussed this with others, we will write these down in something like Google docs. Sourcing includes researching stores before going, driving there, the cost of gas, the cost of your time when you are there. If you drive one hour to a Goodwill, the total time is 2 hours for the driving and then you need to add the time you are there. What is your time worth. If you purchase on average one item that you make $10 on and spent 3 hours sourcing it, it most likely is not a good sourcing method. A friend of mine and I did this and after we figured out all costs found that sourcing was her strength. I suggest to people to have a target of how much you need to spend when you go. Or, a targeted resale amount. My wife tries to target $250 per day at retail of new items sourced.Listing is another big one. When you get the actual items, what is next. Do you have to prep/clean up the items. There is a cost. The cost of the supplies to clean the items, laundry detergent and the electricity/water for washing the items. The time to create the listing, take the image, clean up the image, determining shipping amount.Processing - There is a cost after the listing is up. Answering questions, looking at offers if you have that and processing the order once it sells.Knowing the answers to these questions will most likely help you determine a price for an item you are not willing to sell for less than. A one-time item should probably not sell for less than $10.
