Is it ok to eat egg yolk for lean muscle body building (eggs are usually the main source of protein for me)?

Yes eating the yolk(and white) of an egg is fine and in fact encouraged within reason according to recent nutritional science as it applies to your question about lean muscle for bodybuilding.Eggs have a very high BV which is a measure of protein quality. They also have a high PDCAA score which further supports their quality as a protein source humans can use very well.Eggs are cheap, eggs are versatile foods in how they can be used and brought into ones daily diet as well. Please take a look at these two studies for how they have come to find whole eggs are in fact a truly one of a kind protein source that is great for building and keeping lean muscle mass. Are eggs healthy? (Examine.com)American Journal of Clinical Nutrition Dec 2017My own anecdote is that I eat 2 whole large eggs per day almost every day with breakfast to get not only the full spectrum proteins they contain but also the unadulterated cholesterol (~210mg/lg egg) they have to help support testosterone production which is key in men and women for anabolism optimization. The choline(~125mg/lg egg) they have is also a key player in neurotransmitter synthesis and lastly the powerful antioxidant, selenium (16mg/lg egg or 23% of daily value)If you have high cholesterol you may need to speak to a nutritionist or your doctor about how many per day or per week you can or should consume to keep your levels in check but even then, the research I have seen seems to show that dietary cholesterol does not impact serum (blood) levels of cholesterol as much as they used to think it did.

I recently started hitting the gym, and have decided to have proteins from diets rather than shakes for a while.

Is eating raw egg good or bad?

I see a lot of misconceptions about eggs from these answers . So I will give you the pros and cons . Ultimately the choice is yours .

Disadvantages :
1 ) Raw eggs that have not been pasteurized are susceptible to pathogens .
2 ) yolks raw or cooked contain huge amounts of fat . One lg. egg yolk will contain almost 5 grams of fat .
3 ) The raw white being unheated is a little more difficult for the your body to break down the cells . This slows the protein absorption .
4 ) If you have an allergy and are unaware of it . This would be a very dangerous way to find out !

Advantages :
1 ) Contrary to what was originally thought about cholesterol . Eggs contain the good one , but too much is not helpful , even if it counteracts the bad one .
2 ) Pasteurized eggs you purchase in the store are free of pathogens .
3 ) Albumin , the white part of the egg . This is pure protein an excellent source for building muscle .
4 ) While it really needs to be heated for the body to break down the cells for easier absorption . The body must use more slow burning energy to break it down ( your body fat ) , it becomes an advantage for body ripping . Just look at the boxers .

Now the salmonella question ; where do you people get your information from . All eggs purchased commercially have been pasteurized . This is done to kill off pathogens . There is more to say about this , but you need to read up on it yourself . your paranoia will make you more sick than the salmonella .
For those who are unaware raw eggs are in that tub of ice cream that you lovingly devour with your children . Eggs do not have to be cooked to be safe . I have been eating raw and semi raw eggs since I was a child . If anyone was to contract salmonella it would be me , it has never happen . The hysteria of peoples fears are worse than the diseases .

Should gym going people eat egg yolk?

Egg yolks actually contain all the healthy, fatty acids that are contained within the egg. It is a nucleus of wholesome goodness that supplied our ancestors with their sustenance since before they were upright. When you strip away the egg yolk and eat only the white, you're completely missing out on the benefits of those fatty acids like the Omega-3 fats.Egg yolks also contain over 80% of the overall vitamins and minerals that can be found within the egg as a whole. The facts point to the conclusion that the egg should be consumed without division. In the process of eliminating the cholesterol intake by shedding the egg yolks, you're losing the majority of the vitamins and minerals such as:CUT THE YOKE AND YOU LOSE OUT ONIronPotassiumFolateSeleniumVitamin AVitamin EVitamin BVitamin DBiotinCholineThere is a line dividing many people about whether egg yolks are safe to eat, mainly due to the issues with cholesterol. The fact remains that the bulk of the nutrition in an egg comes from the yolk (including 1/5 of the total protein). Logic would dictate that if you are a person who has an issue with cholesterol, you shouldn't eat eggs on a constant basis, but when you do you should eat the whole thing.
