Are There Different Sizes To A Taper Guy Haircut

What is a taper haircut?

I have had fades and know how those work, but what specifically is a taper? I have Googled and still have questions. So I go to a barber, she asks what size, I say 4 on top and 3 on the sides (all random), and thats it? Or is a taper where I get say a 4 on the sides and have them fade into a 2... Can someone offer a vivid uncomplicated explanation they made themselves?

What is the difference between fade and taper hairstyle?

Fade is usually done with a electric hair clippers and cut very close to the scalp then using a different size attachment to adjust the length as it’s cut towards the crown.Tapered is done with scissors and not as close as a fade. It’s nit as harshly cut.

What is a taper/fade haircut?

Fade haircut is a trending hairstyle, mostly popular amongst young boys and men. This kind of style basically has thick long hair in the middle of your head and steeply decreasing hair as you go down your head. It looks really fashionable and decent at the same time. Although some fade hairstyles look like the barber overdid it, but most of these styles look really magnificent. The process of tapering hair involves reducing its length in a manner that forms a gradient. The gradient starts with longer hair at the top and leads into short hair closer to the hairline. Tapering is used in the majority of men’s haircuts to some degree, particularly near the base. This is where the haircut ends near the hairline. A true ‘taper’ leaves quite a fair amount of hair at the top of the head. Typically it’s around two to four inches, but they can be longer.Fades are different than tapers because the hair at the start of the gradient is typically much shorter than that of a taper. There is a lot more attention to detail used in a fade. Like the name suggests, fade haircuts are supposed to give the impression of hair fading directly into the skin. For more information please check this website: Fade Haircut for Men 2019 - Types of Fade Haircut Menstellar

Hair clipper guard sizes?

Most Clipper Guards are numbered in eighth's of an inch. #1guard leaves 1/8" of hair on the scalp; #2 guard leaves 2/8" on the scalp; #3 guard leaves 3/8" on the scalp etc.
Detachable blades are numbered differently except that the #2 guard and blade cut the same length. All the guard and blade numbers are explained here:

A #2 guard actually leaves the hair a lot shorter than a #3 guard, proportionally speaking, since the cut hair is only 67% of the length, or put another way #3 cut hair is 50% longer than #2 cut hair. The barber can also vary the length by adjusting the taper lever of the clippers. The guards only cut at the specified guard length when the clipper taper lever is in the close cutting position, but this is with standard taper clippers, where the taper lever adjusts between #000 and #1 or #1A with no guard. The taper lever on fade clippers adjusts between #00000 and #000 with no guard attached, which is hardly any difference at all. If your barber is using guards on a rotary clipper there is no taper lever.
Good Luck!

What do the numbers mean when I get a haircut?

Haircut Numbers – Hair Clipper SizesHaircut numbers and hair clipper sizes have confused men for years. Whether you are visiting a barbershop for the first time or learning to cut your own hair with a clipper set, it’s important to know what lengths correspond to different clipper guard sizes. In this guide, we will demystify buzz cut and fade haircut numbers and sizes by detailing the length of hair each clipper number represents.Haircut Numbers and Clipper Guard SizesLet’s start from the basics in case there are any women planning on helping their men trim facial or head hair. Haircut numbers refer to clipper guard sizes, and you can find the number etched into the guard itself. Most clipper sets provide 8 guards, and each hair clipper size represents the amount of hair that will be left when used. The larger the number, the longer the haircut. Oftentimes, most brands like Oster, Wahl, and Andis use increments of 1/8 of an inch. For example, asking for a “Number 2 Haircut” means the #2 guard will be attached to the clipper to leave 1/4 inch of hair on the scalp. Similarly, a “Number 1 Haircut” is a very short cut that corresponds to a 1/8 inch length; a “Number 3 Haircut” cut to 3/8 inch; and a “Number 4” is the medium length of 1/2 inch. In this way, a man can request a Number 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, or 8 haircut, where a “Number 0” means no guard is used, resulting in a near-shaved look with 1/16 of an inch of hair left.
