Besides Translating The Book Of Jonah Did Tolkien Have His Hand In On Any Other Book Of The

Which Bible translation is the best, assuming ones which promote Jesus Christ as God Lord and Savior?

The one I most favor is the one I can’t have - and neither can you, unless you are one of the scholars who is working on continued updates to the text based on the most recent discoveries of material from which the books of the Bible are composed or by which they are interpreted. But you can get close, with the Jerusalem Bible, a masterwork of scholarship. At the behest of Pius XII, scholars at the École Biblique in Jerusalem translated the scriptures directly from the original Greek and Hebrew into French, setting aside the Latin Vulgate of Jerome which had been the previous benchmark. Their work was at last published as La Bible de Jérusalem in 1956, some 13 years after Pius encouraged the undertaking. Subsequently, 10 years later, an English version was published as the Jerusalem Bible. Many of the individual books are a direct translation from the Greek and Hebrew, other material and the footnotes and alternate translations, which are copious, are translated from the French. The translation itself has been admired for its literary qualities, perhaps in part due to its most famous contributor, J. R. R. Tolkien (his primary contribution was the translation of Jonah).Key features of the edition include reliance on an approach to interpreting the source material using the “historical-critical” method, favored by modern scholarship. This has produced some unique attributes of the volume, including introductory material and footnotes which demote Moses as the author of the Pentateuch (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy). Modern scholarship now prefers the Babylonian captivity as a more likely source of these early books. Likewise, King Solomon is not regarded as the writer of the Book of Wisdom.Notably, Lord of the Rings author Tolkien was among the translators; he produced Jonah.I’m not sure that the 1966 edition, published by Darton, Longman & Todd, and Doubleday, is still in print, although extant copies are available in libraries and seminaries. There are, however, various “compact” editions readily at hand, including the New Jerusalem Bible and the “Popular Edition,” among others. If what you want is the most expert and heavily researched Bible, this is the one for you.Hope that helps.

What are some must-read books for teens?

I'll tell you my favorites in decreasing order:Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger (Listen to its audio book available on torrent. This book sounds so good listening to than reading. Every time I listen to it, it never stops to amaze and bewilder me. The novel- an extraordinary work of art- is an all time favorite of mine. Do you also know that the madman Mark who shot John Lennon was obsessed with this novel to such an extent that he thought he was Holden Caulfield himself. Mark was also a psycho and the combination of Holden and being a psycho proved lethal. The reasons Mark gave for assassinating John were ludicrous and prepostrous. I suggest you read Wikipedia page on John Lennon shooting. Mark also read a paragraph from this book at his trial)Master of the Game by Sidney Sheldon (This one has got epic storytelling. I don't think I'll ever find another book like it)The Zahir by Paulo Coelho (Want to get healed?)1984 by George Orwell (just read it)Hercule Poirot's cases by Agatha Christie (Orient Express, Roger Ackroyd, 5 Little Pigs, Death on Nile, ABC Murders, Poirot's Christmas, Peril At End House, Curtain)Creativity for Sale by Jason SurfrApp (kindle edition available only)Contagious: Why things catch on by Jonah Berger (greatest book on marketing that ever saw daylight)Looking For Alaska by John Green (brought back sweet memories of hostel life)Reminiscences of a Stock Trader by Edwin Lefevre (Such a roller coaster ride)Eleven Minutes by Paulo Coelho (Sex talk + deep philosophy)100 years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez (Ever felt a book performing magic upon you while you read it?)Delhi: A Novel by Khushwant Singh (A masterpiece; this book has got everything. It took Khushal 10 years to write it)

Why don’t people read the Bible more?

There are just too many distractions in our lives from waking to sleeping:FacebookTwitterSnapchatHandphone gamesNetflix moviesThe InternetTexting on WattsappHandphone videosEmails, both from friends and officeQuoraI’ve just named 10 distractions. You probably can add a lot more to this list of distractions. The number one reason Christians do not read the Bible more is due to distractions. The second reason could be their church or preaching in churches do not emphasise the importance of reading the Bible enough. The third reason could be just plain laziness or Christians think they know enough of the Bible already.I can understand why non-Christians do not read the Bible .It’s just that they don’t believe in God, Jesus or the Holy Bible.Non-believers have many different reasons why they don’t believe in God nor in the Bible and this cannot be forced on anyone. We can just pray that the Holy Spirit will lead more Christians to be interested and even passionate about reading the Bible because it is the divinely inspired (God breathed )Word of God for our daily living.Let me end with just one quote from the Bible of the importance of reading the Bible:[ 2 Timothy 3:16 New Living Translation (NLT)16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.17 God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work. ]
