Best Self-defense Weapon

Best self defense weapon?

There is no such thing as non lethal. You can throw water on a attacker and they might have a heart attack or slip and take a deadly fall.

Best defense is to walk like you belong where you are and to be aware of you surroundings. Except for drunks bad guys can tell subconsciously by your body language if you are a potential victim or not.
Secondary would be pepper (OC) spray. To really be useful you have to understand how it works and actually practice. The better brands marketed for police sell exact copies of their cans filled with water for practice. IN the movies and on TV the bad guy is always sprayed when they can get both faces in the camera shot.
You as a real victim do not wist that long. You spray a potential attacker in the face area when they are at least 5 feet away. That way the pepper gas has a better chance of working to blind and disorient the bad guy.
Then you run away screaming yous have to practice screaming also most really cannot do it) into a crowded area. In my city I always suggest you run into the street where you can be seen by others.
Pepper spray runs $5 to 10. I suggest you get the stream kind not the fog or cone kind.

Stun guns are useless. They do not work like int the movies, People do not fall down helpless from stun guns. You have to let the bad guy get to close to use the stun gun. The stun just causes some pain and the part of the body stunned to pull away, like touching a hot stove.

A real civilian Taser brand system is OK but they cost well over $100. Made to use form 10 to 15 feet away, then you drop it while it still is producing the electric shock automatically (for 8 seconds) and run away. Taser will send a new one free if you have a police report.

What would be the best self defense weapon for a teenager?

What weapon( not a gun) would be best for me to keep at home? Lately there was a kidnapping not to far from our town and I've been a bit on edge when home alone, in your opinion what would you suggest I buy. I don't want any thing expensive and I don't trust myself with a gun( as in I would load it wrong or screw something up) I was thinking a bat, but would metal or wood be better? I'm not to incredibly strong either, and no swords or knives, I would screw something up and injure myself

Good self defense weapons?

If you're not trained in hand-to-hand combat, pepper spray is your best option. It allows you to engage multiple attackers from a distance, buying time to run away. Even if you're carrying a gun, if you can resolve the situation with pepper spray it will save you endless legal grief and expense. The brand I carry is Fox because it was recommended to me by people I respect in the field. You can learn more about it here:

Check your local laws before ordering. A few jurisdictions restrict or even ban pepper spray.

Tasers are not a good option for civilian defense. Most only give you one shot. If you miss, or your attacker is wearing thick clothing that can block the darts, or you're attacked by more than one person at once or there's a misfire or the battery dies, you're out of luck. Stun guns are even worse. They require you to be in contact with your attacker -- exactly what you want to avoid -- take several seconds to work and have all the other disadvantages of tasers. Note that all police who carry tasers also carry guns and batons and pepper spray and usually have other police backing them up. A taser on its own is not a good idea.

Batons and canes and knives and similar widgets require some training to use effectively. If you've been trained, great. If not, don't kid yourself.

What is the best self defense weapon to keep in a vehicle?

That depends. Are you well trained on it? How many attackers are we talking about? Why are they attacking you? Are they organized? Are they targeting you or are you just a rando? Is this a road rage incident? Is your attacker a punk or a professional?Generally weapons kept in a vehicle for “defence” generally end up being used for offense. The best defence is to stay in your vehicle and lock the doors. If they try to break in, drive away, go to a police station. Call the police on the way if able.Any weapon you need to use will not be useful to you unless you’re well trained, and practice frequently. Anyone who intends to do you harm is ready and already in an aggressive mindset. You need to match and exceed that once you’re engaged.Your best bet from a legal standpoint is to learn some sort of hand to hand combat such as jujitsu etc. These will also help teach you to de escalate. Not using a weapon will help you establish no intent and affirm self defence with no pre-meditation. Also, your hands can’t really be taken away from you and used against you, you won’t have to find them, they do not hinder your mobility, and they are not obvious weapons.Guns for self defense are best left to people who know how to use them, and how to use them under pressure. Anyone can spend a week on a range and learn to fire at paper targets recreationally. All of that goes out the window during fight or flight.Engage only as a last resort. Once it is the last resort however, you will need to commit to incapacitate. Once incapacitated you need to back off. Don’t take your eyes off them, keep out of their reach. It will not be accepted as self defence if you continue beyond the point or incapacitation.

What is the best self defense weapon to keep at your bedside?

There are only two items you need by your bedside. If anyone tells you you should have a shotgun or a rifle, they’ve likely never had someone break into their home or they live in an area with parameter triggers that allows them time to be selective. I grew up in Detroit with a special forces dad and I’ve got experience in these matters.Items:1/ Compact pistol. .22 cal (you don’t need a .45 or any bs like that). Get .22 pistol and practice with it regularly. They are simple to fire, light, with minimal recoil and can be used by anyone in your family. They are also easy to strike with and use as blunt instrument.2/ Tactical flash light. You can buy them at any department or sporting goods store. You can use this to blind someone or simply distract. That’s it.Cheers!

What is the best self defense weapon for a single mom, other than a gun?

A gun in the home with children is not the best option in my opinion. First of all, you are endangering yourself and your children if you do not take some gun safety classes and put in a lot of range time. Guns are not simply a point and shoot weapon. It takes a lot of skill and practice in order to safely manipulate a gun. Secondly, in order to safely keep a gun in the house you would need a safe or gun lock--both of which might be a heck of a lot harder to open under extreme stress.

Pepper spray in the house is just useless. When that stuff is sprayed inside any place, the user (you) gets to suck up as much as the assailant.

At home, I believe the best defense is preventative offense. Have a quality burglar alarm installed. Get to really know your neighbors. Keep your house well lit on the outside (think motion sensor floodlights) and possibly even look into those doo-hickeys that turn on your inside lights at certain times. Maybe even consider a dog. Dogs are by no means the end all, but they are a great deterrent to those criminals whose heart may not be totally into it.

The average criminal acts on impulse and opportunity. Burglar alarms and dogs tend to make a home not as attractive as another one.

When you're out and about, again, the best defense is a proactive offense. Don't chat on the cell phone unnecessarily--you'll get tunnel vision and not notice what's going on around you. Always be aware of your surroundings. If somebody is pacing you while you're walking and you get hinked up, get into a public place. Again--criminals need that opportunity to act, don't give it to them.

I'm personally wary of recommending weapons because unless you really practice to the point that it becomes a natural extension of you, any weapon is just something that can be used back on you.

What's the best self defense weapon against dogs?

I walk my two boxers around the many residential streets in my area, and I want to know how to keep other dogs away, so they don't get into fights. My dogs are always on a leash when walking off our property. More often then not another dog will be roaming (off leash) in the surrounding neighborhood. If another dog wants to approach my dogs there's not alot I can do about it until it's to late. By that time the fight is on. Once apon a time my older boxer was a force to be recconed with, but now she's just a couch potato. I'm looking for a way to prevent another dog from getting close enough to attack. I don't want to injure the other dog, but I'm not opposed to teaching it a stinging lesson. Mace not an option due to it's range.

What is the best non-firearm self-defense weapon for an apartment?

So….. What are you considering that you might have to defend against ?A burglar? Burglars make every effort to make sure no one is home. They do not want confrontations or violence. They might actually wait in the parking lot and watch you leave before attempting entry, and even then they are going to knock on the door and ring the bell.A “home invasion”? A home invasion is an armed robbery of a residence. Read that “armed” part carefully. People who commit home invasions are generally in the drug trade, and they are taking down rivals for cash or product… Or revenge. They will be armed, there will be more than one, and they will be ready to do violence. And you’re going to be there with your baseball bat or hockey stick….Not to worry much, home invasions are rare to begin with and as I said, tend to occur between members of the criminal classes.Occasionally, elderly people who live in “mixed neighborhoods will be targeted as it’s felt by lowlives in the area that they have money or valuables present. So in short… You are not likely to need a weapon in an apartment-living context unless you’re in a very bad neighborhood, and if you do, the weapon you will likely need would be a firearm.
