Best Type Of Knee Support For Sport After Dislocation

Best knee brace for dislocating knee cap?

Hi,

I would recommend a Lateral J Brace. They are made specifically for dislocating and subluxing patellas. The brace helps apply pressure to the knee cap, to keep it in place during movement. No brace will prevent injury/ re-injury 100% of the time, but wearing the braces will help prevent some occurrences. Once your knee cap dislocates it becomes more prone to repeated dislocations because the tissues have been stretched. Here is a link to a Lateral J Brace, my company also sells a few other similar J braces if this is not what you need, feel free to email us or call with any other questions. http://www.hat-trick-sports.com/shop/donjoy-lateral-j-knee-support-sleeve

Kneecap dislocation help!?

So about a month ago i was playing basketball and i hurt my knee and the ortho said i dislocated it and then it poped back in almost immeadeatly. My left knee swelled up and i couldnt walk for a couple days. Now im almost 100% better. My question is, how can i prevent this from happening again because the next i would ligament surgery and what is the best brace for my condition. Btw the doc said that the groove my knee sits in isint to good so that was why it happened. Oh and im also playing basketball for my highschool. Any help is much appreciated.

Kneecap dislocation :/ and my other knee?

Women unfortunately get this a lot. It has something to do with their "Q-angles" An orthopaeiic sports medicine doctor will take measurements of your knee caps and determine if you are prone to patella dislocations. Basically the greater the angle the greater the chance of your knee caps or patellas, dislocating. There are a few things you can do to prevent your knee cap from dislocating. First is physical therapy. You can try developing your vastus medialis and try to strengthen that. The reasoning is that it helps build the muscle on the inside of your knee to help prevent the knee cap from going out the other side.

The other thing you can do is get a brace called, Don Joy Tru-Lite knee brace. It's made specific for the knee cap and it helps track the knee cap so it doesn't slide out.

The third thing you can do is stop doing anything that may make it go out. "The Pivot Shift" It's when you are standing straight like in basketball and then bend your knee and move towards the left. If you do this then your right knee cap will pop out of place. Conversely if you bend your knees and move to the right then your left knee cap will pop out.

Of course if it does pop out the best way to get the knee cap to go back in is to simply straighten your knee. The knee cap pops right back in. When working the emergency ward these were fun putting back in. There was this one time we were in hurry to get to lunch and we saw this little girl crying on the ambulance stretcher and as we were walking by we grabbed her ankle and straighten her knee. "PoP" it went back in and she was super happy now that the pain had gone away.

Best of luck.

What is a good knee support to use after kneecap dislocation?

I recently dislocated my patella - aka kneecap - when I was swinging a baseball bat. Fortunately, I do not appear to have any real ligament damage.
Is there a good device (looking for specific ones if possible) that will help keep my patella in place in the future? It was not a pleasant experience, and I don't want to be fearful of it happening again.

What happens if you walk on a dislocated knee?

I’m not an orthopedist, but i’ve had my knee dislocate twice. If your kneecap has popped out, but is now back in its normal position, either popped back spontaneously or someone has manually put it back in position, it would be pretty sore. And there may be some soft tissue damage (tendons and ligaments) that should be looked at. Plus it's possible some cartilage or even bone got sheared off when your knee dislocated. But you could probably hobble around on it ok if you had to.If your kneecap is still well out of place, the bones of your leg are misaligned and there is stress on the different tendons and ligaments of your knee. Walking when it's like this would cause excruciating pain and potentially serious soft tissue damage to your knee.
