Best Way To Clean A Plastic Sink Drainer

If a plunger and drain cleaner didn't work, what options can I try to unclog a stuck bathroom sink before calling a plumber?

Generally, chemical drain cleaners do not work.  They can do a moderately good job of breaking down superficial clogs of soaps and grease, but that's a small percentage.  Most tub and shower drains are clogged with hair, toilets with foreign objects, and kitchen sinks by food waste that should have been scraped into the trash.  Each of these requires a different approach. The hair clog can usually be accessed from the drain itself or from the overflow on tubs.Sink drains ares designed with a trap under them that remains full of water for health reasons, they stop sewer gas entering the home.  You can remove this trap to get rid of most sink backups, be prepared for a spray of water and, thanks to your earlier mistake, chemicals like acids and alkalis. Those chemicals also sometimes etch the sinks, tubs, and so on permanently.Getting the foreign object that's clogging the toilet often requires removing and resetting of the toilet and gets quite involved.  Frequently it's that comb you lost from your back pocket.

Wikipedia's definition for siphon:
"A siphon (also spelled syphon) is a continuous tube that allows liquid to drain from a reservoir through an intermediate point that is higher than the reservoir, the flow being driven only by the difference in hydrostatic pressure without any need for pumping. It is necessary that the final end of the tube be lower than the liquid surface in the reservoir."

What kind of solvent takes silicone off of a stainless steel sink?

Use goof off in us but be careful with it on counter top. you can also just scrape up as much as possible with a plastic spatula, then use a razor blade or sharp knife to cut at the edges of the seal. Now with dry hands and dry silicon rub in one direction hard and it will start to peel up. Keep fingers and silicon dry while doing this as wetness makes it slippery. Wipe up access with paper towel. Read the warnings on any solvent you try as they may blemish or stain the steel.

Best way to get rid of soap scum on dish drainer?

I have a black plastic one, too...but it cleans up with bleach & water I keep in a bottle nearby...

BUT...here's an idea...I always tell people that using liquid fabric softener is GREAT for removing baked on crud off of pots, pans, casserole dishes, grills, even stove top drip pans...just soak items in water with few drops of softener for 10 min...and it swipes off so easily!

Also>>>>fabric softener mixed with water (50/50 ratio) in a spray bottle removes soap scum off of shower doors...and removes wallpaper, wallpaper borders, too------so why not use some drops of it to soak the dish drainer? Just plug up the sink if you can fit it in, add water, add fabric softener, soak, and rinse out to clean it off? It should do the trick!

How do I to melt a plastic cap that fell way down into my bathtub drain, after a plumber snaking it did not work?

That’s not the best solution, but a melting question need some answer too.Bottle caps are made of Polypropylene, and bad news, it’s resistant to most solvents, except for strong oxidants, which might attack you plumbing as well. The best candidate is Xylene[1] , but you will need to put some heat and tamper the end, not very easy to do.Stick with the other solutions, please.Footnotes[1] https://www.researchgate.net/pos...

How can I get rid of concrete and glue off of my stainless steel sink?

Run some HOT water in the sink and use a plastic scraper to remove most of it. Get some bars keep stainless steel cleaner(comes in a can like comet or ajax) and scrub with a green scrubber. You can use an SOS pad also as long as you scrub with the grain of the sink. Spray some stainless steel cleaner on it and polish with a dry cloth. Don't use acid or nail polish remover on it. That will ruin the finish and stain it.

Why, in the UK, are plastic bowls used to wash dishes in?

They're called basins, and I've no idea. They're not in my house anyway. We have one of course, it's grey, but my wife doesn't allow us to wash things in it. It's to be kept clean. We do however have two cosmetic towels that are equally confusing. A hand towel and a dish towel, that are not allowed to be used, they must be kept clean. We dry the dishes with paper towels. In short, I don't understand either. Sorry
