Bmx Bike Picking Help

How do you build a BMX bike?

I assume you are not wanting to learn how to weld your own frame from tubing - that would be another discussion. But rather, you want a bike in which you get to select every individual component. First, educate yourself on your “wants.” Study the BMX brands and their sponsored riders to find those that you can identify with, that you will want to “represent.” Next, having decided on a frame brand and model, you'll need to pick a size. (Since you are old enough to ask a question on here, I will assume you want a frame sized for 20″ wheels, not oddball sizes like 16″, 18″, or 24″. Those sizes are all used for good reasons, but not used by 95% of BMXers.) BMX Frames are sized by Top Tube length. Quick rule of thumb: if you are under 5′ to 5′6″ tall, 20″ top tube. 5′6″ to 5′9″, 20.5″ top tube. 5′10″ to 6′1″, 21″ top tube. 6′2″ & over, 21.5″ top tube. Yes, some companies like S&M offer sizes like 20.625 (which is fine, more choices isn't bad), but I feel that is sort of gimmicky, and you actually get used to whatever frame you happen to have - whatever the size is. Now that you have decided on the frame brand, model and size, it is time to go shopping. If there is a BMX specialist bike shop in your town, go there. They will help you build your dream bike. If not, check out the online retailers. There are several that have been in business for 20+ years and would love to help you get a great set up. Danscomp.com, albesbmx.com, and empirebmx .com are all longtime dealers with great reputations. They will help you pick all the parts you need to make your custom complete a reality.

Mongoose BMX Bike From Walmart? (Help)?

You already know that any bike from W M is junk and you get what you pay for from them....Junk! I think you should go ahead and get what you want from Wal Mart and use it, ride those trails. Learn as much as you can about BMX and then when that Wal Mart bike breaks (which wont be long after you buy it)
A. you wont be out much money.
B. You will know why you never buy a Wal Mart bike shaped object.
C. If stolen, you wont be out much money
D. If you do buy it, you will likely spend more than you paid for it in a very short time having worked on.
E. You will have the learning curve behind you that all of us seasoned cyclists have now that told us where to buy a quality product from.
F. Buying right the first time, from a reputable dealer (even used in some cases) is ALWAYS the right way to go. Service after the sale is what you DO NOT get at Wal Mart.
G. I could go all the way to Z on why you should not buy a Mongoose "TOY" from Wal Mart but I wont and all the way to Z on why you should save more money before you commit to a better bike and do this right the first time. I have been cycling for over 22 years now and I started out on one of these Wal Mart BSO's and now I know why Ill never do it again. Buy right the first time or pay the price later for low quality. See here for another option (although slightly more than your budget) : http://www.performancebike.com/bikes/Sub... Not bad bikes for just a little bit more $
You already have yourself convinced that you SHOULD get a bike from Wal Mart and there is little that we can say to otherwise influence your decision. You believe that if you get it and it breaks then you will do without and wait until next year and get another one.....Fine it is your money to waste like that because you KNOW it will break especially for they intended use you plan for it. So really, what is the point in asking us here, you are already convinced you should! Mongoose bikes at W M have a round headbadge on them indicating a "toy" and real Mongoose quality bikes have the sideways inverted "M" top to top as a headbadge, there is a BIG difference between them!

WHICH BIKE IS BETTER "Hyper Spinner Pro BMX Bike" OR Mongoose KO Freestyle BMX Bike?

Well there both walmart bikes but the Hyper at least looks like a real bike.

Is liquitex spray paint good for bmx bike painting?

There is NO good paint for wheels. If you paint them, stuff will get in between the spoke nipples and spokes, freezing them in place and making it impossible to repair them. In addition, the brakes will wear the paint off the sides and destroy the brake pads AND make them look like crap. If you get paint in the hub it will ruin the bearings as well.

If you want to paint wheels, the ONLY way is to completely disassemble them so all you have left is a rim, a pile of spokes, and a hub, then mask off the sides of the rim, paint the CENTER of the rim, and reassemble.

LEAVE THE WHEELS ALONE!

What are some facts to know about BMX bikes?

I’ll give this a try.Paint does not indicate the quality of a BMXBrand does not indicate the quality of a BMXBMX stands for Bicycle MotoCrossBMX frames are measured by the top tube not by the seat tube and are junior, standard, XL, or XXL but these labels do not mean much to actual measurementsFreestyle and stunt bikes should never be used on the dirtJump and race bikes should never have pegs installedFootpegs are to perform stunts- not to carry passengersEvery single pro rider wears a helmet whenever they are on their bike even when they are off the courseBMX handlebars should be adjusted so thet they are either perpendicular to the ground or in line with the fork. Pushing the bars forward in “ghetto” or “Chicago” style is dangerous and stupidBMX saddles aren’t usually used for sitting, but for balanceWalmart, Target, and other department stores do NOT sell BMX bikes no matter what they look likeStunt and jump bikes are SUPPOSED to be heavier than race bikesUsing a small chainring (front sprocket) and small rear cog makes the drivetrain wear out very quickly. Using a larger sprocket and rear cog will drastically improve the life of the drivetrainMost riders have their chain way too tight- there should be about 1/2″ (12mm) of easy “slop” in the chainChrome molybdneum (Cromo) is NOT lighter than high tensile steel- they both weigh the same, but chrome moly is stronger so the tubes can be made thinner, thereby saving weightRiders who go brakeless are all idiots… unless they are paid to ride that way as professionalsHigh quality BMX bikes can easily cost as much as a premium road bike, as much as $5000 or more

Why does my BMX bike's brake squeal?

I just bought a brand new $500 Redline BMX and the brakes were squeaking ALOT. I took it in to the shop I bought it from and they said come back in 2 or 3 weeks because BMX bike brakes need breaking in thats it. It became so irritating I started using my back foot as a brake to the point where I'm getting flat spots on my back tire! I took it in today and they switched the brake pads for new ones and I went out and it was still squeaking. I decided not to leave it there as I was bmxing with a friend at the time. Also, I've read that chrome rims cause it but I've had a bike with chrome rims that NEVER squeaked. This bike came with two different brand wheels one with a black rim (front) and one with a chrome rim (back). So please help me! I've read about "toeing-in" brakes but my dad said well then you have to bend the calipers to do that. What can I do to stop this ANNOYING squeaking noise?!
