I live in Washington State and my son runs an orphanage on the island of Bohol in the Phillipines. We have several things to send him and he suggested a balikbayan box as being a better value than the post office. Can anyone suggest a company that will ship from Washington State to Bohol, PI, and what should I expect to pay? Any other suggestions would be very welcome! Thanks!!

Most of the dive shops has a camera(and other equipment) for rent for their guests. If the dive shop you are going with does not have one, you can still try and ask them to find a rental for you. Most of them coordinates with each other.However if you only want pictures as a souvenir for the dive experience, you can ask your dive operator to take pictures of you while diving. They would happily bring a camera to take photos of their guests (i.e Seaquest , GoScuba ).

Bohol, Philippines is a wonderful place to visit. It is located 1 hr south of Manila by airplane or 30 minutes east of Cebu by boat. Bohol is a medium-sized oval-shaped island about a little over 50 miles across and about 40 miles perpendicularly. It can take about a whole day to discover and travel all the way around the island by car. The nearest city, Tagbilaran City is located south of the island. Renting a motorbike or by tricycle is a great way to enjoy and travel within the city area. Traffic is uncommon while pollution is very low compared to Manila - you can see for miles without without gray hazy skies. The majority of people are very friendly and religious. Many foreigners married to Filipinos have made this place their home. You will discover many beautiful large homes in some areas that have been custom-built from the bottom up or upgraded to modern architecture. The general dialect spoken is Bisaya (Cebuano) while many also know how to speak English and Tagalog. There are many nice places to visit in Bohol such as Chocolate Hills (natural wonders of the world), floating restaurants, waterfalls, tarsiers (smallest primates in the world), underground caverns and caves, man-made forests, etc. There are several nice resorts in Bohol. Bohol Tropics, Bohol Beach Club in Panglao island just to name a few. Panglao Island is located next to Tagbilaran City joined by 2 separate bridges. It is a much smaller island with great places to go for water sports and underwater exploration. From Tagbilaran City, you can view across towards Panglao island and see Bohol Plaza along the hillside. Bohol has three large malls with plenty of shops to visit and splurge. Bohol island is considered the next world class tourist destination in the Philippines.

If you mean Pasulabong, that would be tarsier t-shirts, tarsier bracelets and/or tarsier dolls. Also, there are plenty of fake and real pearls available for sale. Some people don't care if they buy fake pearls so long as they get them cheap. I would pay no more than P150 for a string of fake pearls. To tell real from fake pearls, rub the pearls on a hard surface. The fake one's won't mark at all. A real pearl will mark, then if you rub it, the mark will go away. The pearls and the tarsier pasulabong will be available at all the tourist spots. Otherwise, for shopping, there are several shopping malls in Tagbilaran. There are some other places to go to but the main tourist spots to visit are - Blood Compact - Baclayon Church and attached museum - Chocolate Hills in Carmen - Hanging bamboo bridge over the Loboc River, - Tarsiers, the smallest monkey in the world - Floating Restaurants on the Loboc River - Alona Beach on Panglao Island - Hinagdanan Cave on Panglao Island. I'm sorry to hear you had bad luck with the scam investigators in the Philippines. It's a common complaint and frankly I'm not sure which is worse: the women conducting the scams or the locals claiming to be investigators who steal clients money and don't do the work. I love the Philippines and have spent many years in the country, but you're absolutely right to be skeptical. I agree with the other answer that Philippine PI™ is very good. They are a US company so you can expect a higher level of customer service and accountability. And they're verified by Truste, McAfee and the Better Business Bureau which to me is a big deal and shows they are professional. I've used them before and it was very clear they were using highly trained investigators. You might also try Wymoo International but I think they might be the same company as Philippine PI now. They both have a solid reputation and good customer service. Won't hurt to contact both of them and maybe one more to compare. As you've already seen, it can be very hard to find competent people in the Philippines who have the necessary education and qualifications. Don't let all the news about romance scams and fraud get you down. Just be careful and get the background check done before you travel. There are some very beautiful and honest women out there among all the bad apples. The other answer below sounded like he got some days of surveillance so your cost would be less if you're just looking for a background check.
