Boot From A Usb Cd Drive

How do I make a bootable pen drive?

First of all you will need the setup of the operating system (XP, 7, 8, linux etc.). Usually comes in .iso image. Than you can use various software like Wintoflash , win7 usb tool, ultraiso etc to make usb bootable. If you want to make USB bootable using cmd than-1.Open CMD window by clicking Start, typing in cmd in the search text and right click to select Run as Administrator.2. At the command prompt, type cd c:\windows\system32 to change the directory to the Windows system32 directory. Ensure your USB drive is plugged in and type DISKPART and press Enter. Then type LIST DISK and press Enter.3. You will see a listing of the disk drives connected to your computer. Find the disk number of your USB drive and type SELECT DISK [USB disk #], where "[USB disk #]" is the disk # for your USB drive. It should now state that your USB drive is the selected disk. If you're not sure what disk is the USB disk, eject the USB drive, perform step number 2 again, connect the USB drive again, and compare the results. Usually the USB drive will be the last drive.4. Type in the following commands, one by one, pressing Enter after each command.CLEANCREATE PARTITION PRIMARYSELECT PARTITION 1ACTIVEFORMAT FS=NTFS (may take a couple minutes, depending on the USB drive size)ASSIGNEXITKeep the command prompt window open, but you can minimize it for a little bit.5. You will now need your Windows 7, 8 or vista setup.6.Now you have to write the path to the executable file in your windows saved folder ,make sure that in your windows folder you have the boot folder with the bootsect executable file.7. In my case the command goes like this:   E:→cd win 7 sp1→ →cd boot→bootsect.exe/nt60 h: (h is the letter of the usb drive ,this comand will update the boot core)→exit (this will exit command prompt).8.Now you have to copy all the files in the windows folder to your usb drive. Open the folder where you have already placed the windows files. Select all and copy them to the USB drive. Wait for copy process to complete.Your USB flash drive is now set up to be a bootable USB drive for Windows vista, 7 or 8.

Pc wont boot from cd drive or usb flash drive?

I just bought a samsung 840 pro ssd and im trying to update the firmware before i install windows on it. Yes i went into the bios and changed the boot priority. It wont boot from the cd that came with it, is that not a bootable disc? But i have the updated firmware on a 16gb usb flash drive, how do i get it to boot from that? Every single time i try to boot it goes to a black screen and says please reboot and select a proper boot device or insert bootable media and press any key. But it does nothing but show that text over and over again.

Is it possible (and how) to boot from a USB drive on my Dell Dimension 4300? How would I do this in the BIOS?

Set the boot drive to external support, possibly even USB will be an option. It is very possible, and I did it in school all of the time. If you don't have USB2.0, then it'll be really slow though.

Good luck!

Software to boot from USB cd?

I don't know if this would work, but you might want to try Smart Boot Manager. It's free.

How to install a cd-rom bootsector to a usb flash drive?

Hello,

This is new to me I'm actually learning from your question, Did some research and maybe this article can help you:
http://articles.techrepublic.com.com/510...

If you can't find the HP Drive Key or DiskOnKey USB Device software
Try http://h18000.www1.hp.com/support/files/...
Copied a portion of the article I found interesting:

You can access your computer's BIOS by pressing a specific key immediately after you turn the PC on. The key varies, but it is usually either [F1], [F2], or [Delete]. Once you are in the BIOS Setup, you should verify that all of your computer's USB options are enabled. This might include things like support for legacy USB devices or support for USB 2.0. If there is a time out setting for USB devices, you should set it to the max to insure that the system doesn't time out while waiting on the USB device to boot.

Next, find the section on boot device priority. Normally, a USB flash drive (which is usually listed as USB-HDD, but may be listed as a removable device) will have a very low boot priority. If the USB flash drive's boot priority is lower than the hard disk (listed as HDD) then the only time the computer would ever boot off of the USB flash drive is if the system were to fail to boot from the hard disk. You must therefore rearrange the boot device priority so that the flash drive has a higher priority than the hard drive.
