Brown Vertical Line On My Finger Nail

Brown vertical line on finger nail?

Sounds like a crack on the nail... especially if it is your toe nail. Best thing to do is to keep it disinfected and clean or you will have toe fungus. You can use a tooth brush to clean it. Then dry it and keep it dry if possible. The best thing to clean it with is natural soap made with avocado, tea tree oil and beer.

I have a thin brown vertical line on my pinky toe nail?

What do vertical lines on fingernails indicate?

The anatomy of the nail is such that the nail plate is attached to the nail bed in a “rail and groove” structure by which it moves along as the nail grows – much like train. If you look closely at even “smooth” nails you will see fine lines in the nail that show you the “rails” that attach to the bed. In some people these are more pronounced, and it is perfectly normalOf course, if you have smooth nails all your life and they start developing ridges, then other things can be happening. The most common is aging - as you age, your nail growth slows down and the nail thins and essentially “falls” into the railsLengthwise ridges on the fingernail could also be due to onychorrhexis (brittle nail syndrome) . This is often characterized by a beaded appearance of the ridges (and sometimes Onychoschizia (splitting) of the nail due to the brittleness and depending on the depth of the ridging). And in come cases, people get a ridge due to damage to the nail matrix (which can also cause Onychoschizia (splitting) depending on the severity of the damage:Hope this Helps

Why does a brown line appear on a fingernail?

If they are small brown lines that look like splinters, its a splinter hemorrhage caused by trauma to the nailIf its a brown or black line that goes all the way from cuticle to edge, called melanonychia, it could be a benign condition such as a pigmented nevus (a mole). Melanonychia is actually quite common in people who have dark skin. It is estimated that 70 percent of African Americans over the age of 20 have nail banding and almost all African Americans over the age of 50 have some type of nail pigment discoloration. Only 10-20 percent of those of Japanese decent have melanonychia and it occurs in less than two percent of Caucasians. There are numerous other reasons why nail pigment banding occurs: trauma to the nail, medication, systemic diseases, vitamin deficiencies and other skin conditions which may also appear as banding in more than one finger. A doctor should review your entire medical history to determine what the next step is to take, as melanonychia may also indicate melanoma (skin cancer).
