I'm jealous of my boyfriend's songwriting?
My boyfriend is a songwriter. When we met , it started off as a friendship, but he gave me a cd of his band's album and I fell in love with him. They were the most beautiful , honest, original, loving, lovely songs I had ever heard. He had been in a relationship with someone for years and after they broke up he wrote everything he was feeling. Now we've been together for over 2 years, but he still sings songs about her. He's going into the studio to record them in the next few months and he's getting them ready to record. I ask him if he still has feelings for her and he says no. But when he sings the songs, he puts so much feeling into it. He's a wonderful person who tells me he loves me and shares his whole life with me, but I can't help feeling jealous and insecure. I try not to care, because I know I am the one with him now, but these songs are so beautiful. He doesn't write songs about me. And that's ok. But how do I deal with listening to someone that I am in love with sing songs about another girl from his past ? He cares very much about music and the artistic process of it. I can't tell if he's doing this to make good art... or doing this to impress her... Also, all of the songs about her were written before he and I met. He's not still writing new songs about her. I don't want to censor his past.. what should I think ?

I have been with my boyfriend for a little over two years. I am 23 years old and he is 25. Anyway, I came home from grocery shopping before when I overheard my my boyfriend playing the guitar and singing a song about his ex-girlfriend. I am so confused and heartbroken and am not sure if I should confront him about this. The song itself was so sad and I felt as if though he is still in love with her after the 4 years that they have been broken up. These are not the exact same lyrics but it pretty much went like this. "she was the best thing that ever happened to me. i miss everything about that but it will never go back to what it used to be. my mom told me to grow up and be a man but all i did was let it slip away." When me and him began dating, he told me that he was completely over her and was happy to move on with someone new. He has never brought her up in these past two years, so why now? I'm a guitar player and singer/songwriter. I wrote a love song for a girl I had deep feelings for, and it was lyrically and musically very beautiful. On her 18th birthday, I recorded the song on a CD and gave it to her, along with the lyrics, as well as a basket of personalized gifts and flowers. She said she really liked the present, and when I mentioned the song, she said she really appreciated it and was moved that I did that for her. But that said, the girl hasn't ever gone out, despite saying I have the best personality for a girl (her words, not mine). I don't know if she's playing hard to get or what - we've known each other since we were little. When we look at each other's eyes, I feel like I'm seeing how she really feels, but she never admits to it. And she seemed to play off liking the song for a while. Do girls really love it when someone writes a song for them? Especially when they know the guy loves her?
