Hinduism is rich in symbolism. Many acts of worship, such as puja, are symbolic, a form of visualisation in which worshippers simulate activities normally performed on higher planes of existence. Thus the scope of symbolism is broad and includes physical acts such as offering pranam (obeisances) with folded hands. Such physical gestures tend to induce the appropriate mood and awareness within the practitioner. Many symbols are considered auspicious, embodying the notion of inner purity. Sacred emblems are displayed in the home or temple to invoke good fortune. The most popular symbols are listed on the right.

Aum, also written "Om" and called pranava, is the most important Hindu symbol. Its prolonged intonation is associated with the primeval sound through which the universe was created. It is thought to contain all things. It consists of three syllables — a-u-m — which are sounded progressively from the throat to the lips. The three sounds are considered to symbolise many items, but perhaps most importantly the three states of consciousness – waking, dreaming, and deep sleep. The entire symbol represents the fourth state, which is the awareness of one's own spiritual identity. Aum is the most important mula (root) mantra and is thus chanted at the beginning of many prayers, mantras, and rituals.

Is there anyone who can tell me what this symbol means? What’s the meaning behind it and the background? Where did it come from? Who uses it and why? https://prnt.sc/hh3sgz

It is similar to a 7 pointed star: heptagram or septagram.“The septagram is a continuously drawn figure having seven points. It is a less common religious symbol than the pentagram, but it is a sacred symbol to Wiccans who follow the Faery tradition, where it is called the Elven or Fairy star. The septagram is important in Western kabbalah, where it symbolizes the sphere of Netzach the seven planets, the seven alchemical metals, and the seven days of the week.”Source: Elven Star (Seven pointed star, Septagram, Heptagram, Fairy Star)Well, more than “planets”, they should be called the Seven Luminaries. That is, 7 objects in the sky that aren’t fixed (they move) and are visible with the naked eye. They are also called the 7 “classical planets”.Planets, Metals and 7 days of the week:Sun ☉ - Gold - SundayMoon ☽︎ - Silver - MondayMars ♂ - Iron - TuesdayMercury ☿ - Mercury - WednesdayJupiter ♃ - Tin - ThursdayVenus ♀ - Copper - FridaySaturn ♄ - Lead - SaturdayThis image is called the VITRIOLV I T R I O L = (seven letters, for a 7 words sentence) == Visita Interiora Terrae Rectificando Invenies Occultum Lapidem = = "Visit the interior of the earth, and by rectifying you will find the hidden stone"A 9 word sentence is found in alchemical literature: VITRIOLVM = = Visita Interiora Terrae Rectificando Invenies Occultum Lapidem Veram Medicinam == "Visit the interior of the earth, and by rectifying you will find the hidden stone, which is the true medicine."This refers to the philosopher’s stone… a substance capable of turning base (common, ‘cheap’) metals like mercury into gold. And, if that was little, also called the elixir of life, useful for rejuvenation and for achieving immortality. That was the most sought-after goal in alchemy…But, OK, the image you linked is not exactly just a star…It is made of rhombus… a seven rhombus leaf flower.I’ve seen some flowers with 7 petals…And 7 rhombus leaves is also like a 7 of diamonds.

What does this 仲 symbol mean?

in japanese its part of the word 仲間 (naka ma)
which means sort of like friend, or people that are close to you, fellowship, kin, personal relations (its hard to explain when there isnt really an english word for it)

the kanji 仲 came from two kanjis/chinese character that were put together
the one on the left is 人 (hito) which means person, that i guess sort of changed shape with time when it was put together into this character.
and the one on the right is 中 (naka, chuu) which means middle, center. and those two were put together to form that one kanji/chinese character 仲 (also read naka or chuu in japanese) (if u think about it its like ppl 人 that are the center of u 中, so ppl that are meaningful to you)
(http://www.kanjinetworks.com/tnetwork/TO... i found some of the info on it here)
im not sure if its the same as in chinese though, cuz japanese and chinese read it differently, but it usually have around the same meaning.
im no kanji/chinese character expert, but i hope i helped

Can anyone recognize this symbol? If so, what does it mean? ?

My friend goes around writing this symbol everywhere. It's driving me crazy, because nothing he tells me about it matches up. Frankly, he's a pathological liar, but I'm curious as to whether or not anyone recognizes it.

I drew it in ms paint for ya.

Interesting coin: Does anyone know what the symbols on this coin mean?

The motif is similar to our Kedah Sultanate Tara coin (Tara or Tera is a denomination coin for tin coinage). This sultanate is situated southern of Siam. Due to this, eventhough Kedah Sultanate was an Islamic Sultanate, it was highly influenced by Buddhism which comes from Siam. So I think that this coin had to do something with Buddhism - could be a charm.

Can anyone tell me what this tattoo and/or symbol means?

Looks like some random tribal crap but without any context other than the domain of the website you got this ff of, I would take a wild guess and say that it may be a highly camouflaged "peckerwood" white racist tattoo. The term peckerwood refers to white (mostly jail bound) gang members, typically members of the Aryan Brotherhood, Nazi Lowriders, etc. One of the many symbols for this affiliation is the picture of "Woody Woodpecker" in profile, often smoking a cigar.

Like I said, I went out very far on a limb here with a wild guess so take what I wrote with a grain of salt.

I should point out that not all people who have this tattoo are either white, or racists...

Can anyone tell me what the math symbol that looks like an outdoor telephone pole means ?

I'll agree with genericman... a link to where you saw the symbol would be helpful to know to which one you're referring. As possibilities:

≠ means "not equal to."

An upside-down ± means "minus or plus," used for an opposite sign when a ± is already used in an expression.

∏ means "product of," as in ∏(3,4,5) = 60, used similarly to summations (∑) except when you must multiply the numbers rather than adding them.
