The request often contains the IP, port, and name of the requesting client.If you were on a VPN or proxy, that info is changed or hidden. A request is seen, but no info is provided. IF you’re doing something on this network and do not want anyone to know, do everything on a VPN or proxy from here on out.If the network is acting like normal, even after your initial log-in, I think you’re safe.

As said before, you need a router. Qwest has routers built into their modems in my area at no extra charge, but it may be different in your area. Give them a call and see if yours is already capable. If not ask them how much to upgrade, it might even be free. IF they tell you you need to buy a router, go with linksys, dlink or buffalo. The sales people will try to sell you an "N" router because it is the currently the fastest and strongest model. It is also the most expensive. A "G" router is fast and strong enough for MOST people, especially because you can upgrade MANY models for free using a firmware package called "TOMATO" or "ddwrt". In fact my familiy and MOST techs I know are using 5 year old wrt54GL routers which is the "darling" of us geeks. ASK your sales person if it is DDWRT or TOMATO capable. After you have the router working (whether one you bought or from Qwest) you just connect up just like you do at the library or coffee shop. We are assuming that your laptop has wifi built in almost all made within the last five years do. If not, you need to buy a card that goes in your communications slot or a USB stick wifi adapter. The stick ones are cheaper, but do not get as good reception. They are more convenient for some people. The trouble is that if you bump into it, you can ruin your adapter or your motherboard. good luck
