Can I Drop Out Of School In Tennessee At Age 17 Without Parental Consent

Can I drop out of school in Tennessee at age 17 WITHOUT PARENTAL CONSENT?

1) Simply call the board of education since they can give you a solid answer the Drop-Out Laws have changed (615) 741-5158

2) It is True but if you have a GED you can get a drivers license.

3)None that I know of

4) Absolutely the GED is equivalent to a high school diploma. The only reason why people question the validity of the GED. In the academic and business sectors, holders of GEDs have almost the same opportunities as diploma holders. All community colleges and almost all four-year institutions accept GEDs, and most businesses that require high school graduation also accept the GED. There seems to be, however, a general impression that a high school diploma is a better credential than a GED. For example, if two applicants are otherwise equally qualified, the applicant with the high school diploma may be preferred to the holder of a GED untrue when it comes to colleges but ignorant employers may follow this pattern.

As a GED advocate/Pre-Med student at a 4 year college. I did take the SATs due to the fact that I was competing against other students who had taken the SATs but some 4 year universities do not require it but if you don't want to take it simply enroll into a community college for the 1st and 2nd year then transfer.

Legal drop out age in Tennessee?

My child will not attend school; I have tried everything but she keeps skipping & instead of her being blamed I AM, when there's nothing I can do. I put her in the car; drive her there & watch her walk in but she still finds a way to get out. She is 16 going to be 17 & as much as I don't want her to just drop out I can't keep getting the blame in her truancy & me go to jail for it. So if anyone has any websites or information on the legal age to drop out or any other alternatives that would be greatly appreciated. I am out of ideas.

What is the legal drop out age in Tennessee?

Im 17 and pregnant. She will be here in November. I wont be 18 until January 2016.
I was planning on dropping out and getting my GED. However my school told my mom that i absolutely can not drop out at 17 with or without parental consult. They said my only option is either do homeschooling OR go to an alternative school where i can graduate faster. However, I can't physically go to school because i have no way. But ive looked up the legal law for my state and it clearly says you can be 17 to dropout with parental consent. So what should i do? Me and my mom are going up there tomorrow but id like to know some legal rights here.
Im fixing to get into some serious trouble about truancy if i don't do something fast.

Do I need permission from my parents to drop out of high school?

If you are under 16 you do. Compulsory education laws require that you attend school until you are 16. If you are over 16 be aware of the consequences. If you decide you are going to drop out, your parents may decide you must pay your share of the rent, utilities, groceries, etc. If you refuse to follow your directions that may seek legal action to have you defined as an emancipated minor which means they legally can kick you out. When you go out to look for work be aware that most employers will expect you to either b in school or have a diploma or GED. If you don’t you may be not be qualified. You may be looking at a series of low pay, entry-level jobs.If a traditional school isn’t working explore other options with a school guidance counselor. Is there an alternative high school you can attend or an online high school that you can participate in. The answer really isn’t in dropping out of high school, it is finding a way to finish high school that works for you.
