I would email everyone that recognizes your Yahoo email and tell them that your new email is the Gmail one. OR I use both Yahoo and Gmail and what I do is I use Outlook to retrieve both emails at the same time. Yahoo says that you have to use it's paid premium email to forward or use POP, but there's a way you can forward your free Yahoo mail. I did it once but I can’t remember exactly how. Search in your gmail to find this option and gmail sends a request to Yahoo which you have to verify. It works fine except that Yahoo won’t keep you logged in for more than a few days so once in a while, you’ll have to sign in to your yahoo mail. You will be able to see, reply and delete your Yahoo emails from your Gmail inbox.

First one needs to Select All from the box of interest, like the "In Box", then while these are selected, a 'Forward' button will be on the menu bar, click it, and the send messages dialog will come up then enter the address of the Gmail account, and when everything settles, click 'Send'.
