Can I Get A Masters In Business Mba With A Bachelors In Computer Science

Could ap computer science help you get into a good business, pharmacy or even premed school?

Well, it's a challenging course. Colleges like that. Doesn't really transfer over to any of the degrees you mentioned.

Still, it's not going to be much help. Certainly won't look as nice as an AP science class for med or pharmacy. If there's an AP Econ, that would be better for business school. Even AP Calculus would be better for business school.

One AP class isn't going to help enough to really get you into a better college.

The strange thing is, all the degrees you mentioned are grad degrees. You go to college first. They really don't care too much about what classes you took in high school. If you do the normal college first route, they won't even ask what you took in high school.

Now, if you're applying to the rare programs in med, pharmacy, or business that take you straight out of high school, then yes, they'll look at it, but it's not the best class to take. It'd just be any other random AP class that would give you a weighted grade and possibly some college credit, but that's about it.

If you don't love Computer Science and are only thinking about doing it to impress colleges, then don't take it. You wouldn't be doing yourself a favor.

Which is better after a bachelor’s in Computer Science - an MS or an MBA?

What do you mean by “better”? If you're asking which degree will help you land a more high-paying job, it's probably the MBA. On the other hand, an MSCS can enable you to specialize in one of the many “in” sub areas of CS, such as machine learning or computer security. This can in turn help you land a very high paying job at one of the top tech companies. Furthermore it can open the doors for a PhD in CS in the future.

Can I do a master's degree in business if I have a Computer Science undergraduate degree?

Michael Barley, Thank you for asking your question, "Can I do a master's degree in business if I have a Computer Science undergraduate degree? "Yes, you can. The MBA program is open to any undergraduate major although some undergraduates may require more courses if they do not have prerequisites like other undergraduate business majors. UC Berkeley’s Haas Fall 2017 entering class of bachelors degree (Full-Time MBA Program), 15% with engineering degrees and 3$ with computer science. At Stanford’s MBA entering class of 2017, 37% had an engineering, mathematics or natural science undergraduate degree (Entering Class Profile). You can do an MBA if you have a computer science degree.

Should I do an MBA or a second bachelor's in computer science?

The standard answer for your question would have been, pick that interests you more. But you have made it clear that you like, both CS and MBA, alike. Both MBA and CS degree from UM (Ann Arbor), have high reputation. As of now, you have no formal stamp of approval of your possessing tech skills. A degree in CS could help you fill this void. Look at the flip side. An MBA would help you take shots at the jobs, which need managerial skills, but perhaps not tech background. There are plenty out there with MS in CS or an MBA after undergrad in CS, who would give you a stiff competition. Considering these factors, and your age, it might make more sense to opt for an undergrad degree in CS.Talking about job security, you can get fired both as a tech architect or a manager. So, you shouldn't be basing your decision on this factor. High job satisfaction is very subjective term. I like to work for my startups, but quite a few people find it bizarre. What's high job satisfaction for you, is known only to you, and that too after spending some time doing it. So, I would leave out this factor as well. Talking about future employment prospects, there is going to be a huge shortage of tech workforce in the US (high demand), and even MBA's would be expected to know a bit of coding. On this factor, BS in CS over MBA.Hope this helps.

What's more valuable: an MBA or a master's in computer science?

I have both an MBA and an MS in Computer Science. My MBA program wasn’t from an Ivy league school (and that’s OK!). Looking back at what changed my career the most, I would have to say it was the MS in Computer Science. I learned so much in the MS program, that it really has given me the confidence to do so many things that I would not have been able to do with just an MBA. The MBA is nice, but I don’t see the immediate return on investment as with the MS in Computer Science. For your case, it depends on what you want to do. You don’t need an MBA to be a leader in an organization. Some of the best leaders I have worked with did not have any graduate degrees!

MBA AFTER COMPUTER SCIENCE DEGREE?

Your professors are idiots if they advised you to get an MBA right after a Computer Science degree. Doing so could make you unemployable in both fields.

Work a few years first.

Also, unless you want to leave the Technical field altogether, an MSTM (Technology Management) or Master's in Engineering Management is a better degree for your situation than an MBA.

Can I do an MBA after a BA in computer science to become a software engineer?

Today’s system of education has become so commercial that you can mix and match and do just about anything. From BA to B Com to MBA to a Diploma in Projects. The list will go on and on. However, you need to ask yourself - what is your agenda and purpose behind doing this.If it is to learn new skills - you are not going to learn anything other than bookish knowledge - which you will never use in your life. If on the other hand you just want to show the MBA to get a better job - that may work but it again depends on which university you are doing it from. And finally, if you are doing it to become better at Software Engineering - it has nothing to do with the chosen career.I strongly suggest you get in touch with someone who can guide you in terms of your career as this is a very crucial period of your life. And the choices you make - can make you or break you.Loy Machedo
