Can I Get In Trouble For Using A Picture Owned By Someone Else As My Profile Picture

Using someone elses picture?

Yes! He does not own the copyright and he did not ask permission to use those pictures, also they most probably are not in the public domain - so if anyone gets in touch with the copyright owners, your friend might get mails from lawyers and may end up paying huge fines.

Someone is using my profile pictures on Facebook?

Found out because my friends sent me a message that some random guy is using my picture on Facebook and I do have a Facebook account that I use to get connected with my friends I don't normally add random people on the web this user is using picture of me two years back.

Does anyone know if Facebook can terminate all my older picture being use on someone else profile account? My account is set to private now friends to friends can only see what I post on my wall and what I upload pictures or videos of me and someone else. Facebook is a great way for me to get re-connect with my old friends and make some new friends from my other friends on Facebook or set a time to hang out.

Is it illegal to take a picture of someone else's car?

It's not illegal to take pictures of a car (or anything else) left in a public place. As long as you weren't trespassing on the lot and the lot is open to the public you did nothing wrong.

It IS illegal to make violent threats toward someone for taking pictures legally in a public place though. That's called "assault". You could have called the cops on HIM for threatening you and showing intent to carry out the threats since he was running out of the store toward you and threating violence.

Fwiw I'll never understand why certain people do everything they can to make their cars stand out but then get pissed when people want to look at them. Don't paint a car bright green if you don't want it to be noticed by everyone with functioning eyesight.

That D-bag was just looking for a fight and the cops would have been on YOUR side if either of you would have called them.

Is it Illegal to use someone else’s picture on a dating profile even if I have their permission to use the picture?

It’s probably against the websites rules. It’s not the fake picture itself that is illegal but the activities that one usually intends to commit while using it that are. Obviously someone isn’t going to use a fake photo on a dating site if he/she is using the website to meet people, because the whole purpose is to meet people in person. There could be reason’s that have nothing to do with intending to victimize someone, like maybe the person is both agoraphobic and homely. If they find someone who’s okay with that, the fake picture probably wouldn’t harm anything. But lets face it most people who want to join a dating site and use a fake profile are out to catfish. They are looking for someone they can defraud, borrow money, rip off, basically they trolling for victims. If that is the case and the person gets sued or criminal charges are brought against them the fake picture could make any other crimes committed more serious because it would show intent. I couldn’t find any cases in California Lexis about it but there is a lot on the Internet warning people about fake dating profiles. Google it.

Is it illegal to use someone else's pictures on Tinder as a social experiment without their consent?

Thanks for the A2A. You can avoid all of these problems by telling someone that you want to use their picture and ask their consent. Since Tinder is localized, I recommend asking someone from another location so her friends don’t see the profile. If the fact that you’re using her picture comes back to her, she could theoretically sue you for using her likeness, particularly if you’re using a picture of a model or celebrity.

People are using my picture as their profile picture on Facebook. Is it okay to let them use my picture?

From a legal standpoint, you own the copyright on anything you create from the moment you create it, regardless of if it's registered with the government or not.  This means that the image can only be used is ways that you approve. You certainly have every right to tell them they need to stop if it bothers you.  Unfortunately, the internet being what it is, it can be hard to enforce these rules.  Are the people using your image crediting you?  Would you feel better about it if they properly credited you?  Sometimes it's easier to get people to comply with simply crediting you instead of taking it down.I think that most people, if you ask them in a polite but firm way will remove your image and you have every right to be upset about it being used without your permission.  On the other hand, having people using your image must mean they really like it, which can be potential exposure for you.  I doubt that you'd ever, say, be offered a million dollar commission from someone seeing your image on someone's Facebook profile, but if you're anxious to get your work out there, this is one way.  If you wanted to allow them to use it, I would just require them to credit you and provide a link to your site.Again, anything you create can only be used with your permission and it's completely understandable why you'd be upset about it being used in ways you hadn't intended!  The internet is a crazy beast though and you might have trouble tracking down every unauthorized use of it and making everyone comply.  I hope you're able to get it all under control, however you decide you want to handle it!

Is it illegal to use someone elses photo on your profile pic on Facebook?

Short answer: no. There is no law that governs your facebook profile picture. If you were somehow making money on that photo, then maybe. Every photo is copyrighted (just like a book or movie) by the person who took the photo (not necessarily the person in the photo). So you are using the photographer's photo without his/her permission. Generally, though, that doesn't really get you into hot water unless it's a big deal. I mean, really, how many people post a supermodel or movie star as their profile pic? Tonnes. And it's generally tolerated by the copyright holder (i.e., he could sue you, but doesn't because he doesn't know or doesn't care).

Is it illegal to use someone else's picture (a photo of a random person you found on the internet) as your Facebook profile picture?

The other answers about copyright stand. However depending on where you live there may be additional problems with using a picture of someone else. Are you disparaging them? Welcome to lawsuit territory. Now, if you used my picture, I would be within rights to claim you misrepresented me simply by posing as me. You don't have to be nasty, simply using someone else's likeness can turn problematic, they're inclined to find offense.Honestly, I don't care what you have in mind. But imagine if it's your photo. You don't want someone running around misrepresenting you. Imagine the person you chose, developing a victim mentality, and claiming it as slander or libel. Its not a good path to go down.
