Can I Still Go To A Good College With A High Act And Sat Scores But A Horrible Gpa

If you have low SAT/ACT scores can you still go to good college with good grades?

The SAT's are proving to not be as valid as they were thought to be. Decent grades are enough to get into a good school. Many schools do not even look at the SAT anymore. Other schools ask you to take an entry exam if you did not take the SAT's or if you scored lower on them to see where to place you in certain subjects such as math or english.

Activities are also a plus to have on your transcript. Just having good grades is not always enough as schools want to know if you're a well rounded person. I always did very well in school and had a high GPA in high school, but slept through parts of the SAT's which I only took my senior year, once, and did all right on them. My grades and activities were enough to get into a few decent schools of my choice.

Some schools require you to do an essay on your application as well as get teacher recommendations. One school I applied to, I never even completed my required essay or recommendations because I was accepted to my first choice school. This school still accepted me based on my transcript as a whole. Do not fret over the SAT's. There are plenty of great schools you can be accepted into without high SAT scores.

Low GPA but good SAT/ACT scores??

I am a senior in high school and as of right now my GPA is at a 2.3. My GPA is low due to my fathers job and having to constantly move to different schools. Some schools take different credits than others and now that I am a senior at a new school and most likely graduating from this school, they require many different courses so I'm having to play catch up. Will a University understand my dilemma? Or should I just attend a community college for 2 years? And will a high SAT/ACT score over shadow my low GPA?

High ACT but low SAT score. What will colleges think?

Good for you! One of my friends just got a 36 on the ACT and a 2390 on the SAT and all I can think is that she's way too smart.
Anyway, most kids, unlike my genius friend, are better at one than the other. Colleges are used to this, so even if you send both scores, they'll completely understand.
Your SAT score is not low at all. It's a good score and would be acceptable at a lot of top tier colleges.
However, your ACT score is exceptional, so you would be better off submitting that one and not the SAT score. You should still familiarize yourself with the SAT format since you're going to need to take 2 or 3 SAT Subject Tests for the colleges you're applying to.
With a score like that, you can apply to any school out there. I'd assume your GPA is similarly high, 3.75 or above. You have great ECs. Looking at your SAT scores it seems that math is your strong suit. If it is also the area you're most interested in, you may want to consider technical schools like MIT and Caltech. If you want to go Ivy League but want to have a scientific major, think about Columbia as opposed to Yale, which is rather weak in that area.
You should do a lot of research. You seem intelligent and determined enough to have a good chance anywhere.

Can I still get into college with bad SAT scores??

Well, look for a back door. I did horrible as well, as a matter of fact I did so bad on my LSAT's that I did not take my SATs until after I attended a community college. If you can do well at a 2 yr community college you can transfer to a 4 yr after. I eventually took the SATs and did horible as well, I think it was around 900 combined. The math killed me, I hadn't had a math course in 4 years. Some 4yr schools also have night schools and summer schools that are easy to get into, pretty much sign up and attend. Take some courses this was how I did it, if you do well the school will notice and possibly make an exception, they might just make you take a remedial math or English course, I had to do this. Honestly I don't think SAT's are that big a deal with a major in vocal performance. Pick a school, visit it, make some friends, email some professors and ask them to help you. (don't listen to your high school advisor, I did that and joined the Army, what a waste that was)
Good luck
You will do fine

Low GPA but High SAT/ACT score? Advice?

I have a very low gpa, because freshman, and sophomore year where difficult times due to certain circumstances. (Illness, and other things) However since then I've made a lot of improvements my junior year,( went from getting straight Ds to As and Bs) and plan on Continuing to do so senior year, and I'm planning on retaking classes I did bad on over the summer.
I scored a 32 on my ACT and a 1350 (I think) on my SAT, also I'm a great essay writer.
I also do volunteer things
I tutor at my local elementary school and library
I volunteer at my church, I'm vice president of the Hispanic union club at my school, and lead dancer of my school dance crew. And Im an active poet reading all over my city.

I don't plan on going to any ivy league schools or any super selective schools

Some universities I really like are
Michigan State University
University of Washington
University of Oregon
University of Wisconsin -Milwaukee
Ball State University
Colorado State and I guess my only selective school I'm interested in would be Purdue .

If anyone could offer me any hope, or advice that would be great! Someone suggested maybe I should go to community college for a year ? Opinions ?

Can I get to a good college/university if my ACT scores are low but my GPA has remained high, 3.95 for the high school years?

Yes, you definitely can! I had a cumulative 3.92 GPA but a low ACT/SAT score but I still managed to get into a pretty good UC. I recommend going to AdmitSee and if you want some more advice. They have college undergraduates that can guide you through applying for colleges. Here's an example of a profile of someone that can help you decide what kind of school you want to get into: CALculator - admitsee profile detail. Hope this helps :)

What colleges could I get into with low gpa/sat?

You have a shot at Hunter and Baruch, but both are reach schools for you. You have a good shot at Buffalo State - that's a fit for you.

In terms of schools I think you have a good shot at in NY State, I'd have you look at Nyack College, Alfred State U, SUNY Cobleskill, SUNY Old Westbury, John Jay College of Criminal Justice, Lehman, York College, Brooklyn College, Dominican College of Blauvelt, Morrisville State, College of Mount Saint Vincent, St. Francis College, College of New Rochelle, Mount Saint Mary U, St. Thomas Aquinas College, LIM College, Iona, Long Island U Brooklyn, Long Island U CW Post, and as reaches (but possibles), look at Pace, Manhattanville, SUNY Fredonia, St. Bonaventure.

If you don't mind NJ, you may get into Caldwell College, Centenary U, Fairleigh Dickinson, Georgian Court U, Kean U, New Jersey City U, Rider, Rowan, Rutgers Camden, St. Peter's U, William Patterson, Richard Stockton, and Felician U.
