Can I Use A Light Switch Dimmer For My 2 Track Lighting Fixtures

How to install dimmer with track lighting?

When buying a dimmer switch, you need to pay attention to the switches rating. You need to add up the total wattage of all the light bulbs in the fixture, (if you have 4 75 watt bulbs, then you need a dimmer switch that is rated for 300 watts or more).

You also need to make sure the lights you are trying to dim are dimmable, check the manufacturers recommendation.

Light Fixture/Chandelier- Odd Ceiling Position?

The "extension cord" you are referring to is called a Swag kit. It is one option, but not likely very attractive.
I take it there isn't a blank white cover on the ceiling of the living room. If so then you have a location for a light that wasn't installed for some reason. If not, here is a suggestion I saw way back on YA. Get 4' pieces of Track light. Mount Vertically on a wall(s) at any height you like. Install an in-line dimmer on the power cord and plug into a receptacle. If the receptacle isn't directly below the location of the track, make it long enough to reach the floor, run over to a point below an outlet and then up. You can place several "heads" on one track and aim them any way you want.
Relatively inexpensive, requires few tools and only basic wiring skills.
Floor to ceiling lamps are another option if the ceiling isn't sloped.

What does the red wire connect to when installing a light fixture?

Most of the time's I've seen a red wire have been on switch devices (like dimmer switches) where there would be a black, white, and red wire (and possibly a green wire.)The white wire is the "neutral" (or return-path) wire.  Typically, all the white wires in junction box will be connected together. The black wire is the "hot" (or power-source) wire.  It would be connected to the power-source wire coming into the junction box, and if there was any pass-thru (to other switches & outlets), it'd be connected to those. The red wire would the "load" wire (controlled by the switch.)  It would be connected to the black wire of the "load" (light fixture, outlet controlled by switch, fan, etc.)The OTHER times I've seen (and used) a red wire have been in the case of 3-way (and 4-way switches), multiple (gang) switches for multiple loads, and 220/240 wiring.  In those cases, you have to understand the specific wiring inside the walls to know what's going on - and that's likely to require doing tests on-site to understand the wiring plan.  That isn't something Quora answers are going to be able to help you with. You would do better to find some "home wiring made easy" books (perhaps at your local library) than asking here.  You would do MUCH better getting a qualified handyman or electrician to help out if you don't know what the wires used to be attached to.

How do I replace a dimmer switch with a toggle switch?

The dimmer switch is no different than a single pole toggel switch.you have a switch leg and a hot comming from your light. On a single pole toggle switch it makes no difference which wire goes to which screw. The single pole toggle switch has two screws and a ground The switch you have described sounds like a three way switch.A three way toggle has two copper screws and one black screw the two copper screws are for wires that are called travelers meaning the current travels both ways and the black is the hot screw.Unless your dimmer was a three way you do not need the the toggle switch with the two copper screws and a black screw. You need a single pole toggle with two copper wires and a ground good luck.

I have track lighting and the bulbs blow out fast? Why is this happening?

If you hadn't done it already, go to Lowe's and purchase 130 Volt bulbs instead of 120 volt.

Is it safe to have the light switch on, but no bulbs?

The little pully string thing on my fan that turns the light on or off won't pull.
So it's stuck on having the light on.
My choices are... Lights with fan? Or no lights and no fan.
That's it.
My room has been sooo hot..
So I took all the bulbs out, switched the light on, and put the fan on full speed.
Is this safe?

How many Lights can I put on one switch?

I'm finishing a room in my basement (never been finished before.) I wanted to put lights on a dimmer switch because I had that at my last place. Then I considered putting some smaller recessed lighting around the edge (take it out of the middle). But I wanted to know
1. How many recessed lightning can I chain together?
2. Can I put those on a dimmer switch?
3. I think halogen is kind of the newer look, but is it cost efficient compared to Incandescent?
Thanks
