Can Mice Chew On Rocks

Will mice chew through anything?

Ha! This is a pretty bad problem, but you don't really have to worry. They won't eat through your flesh. At most they would bite, realize it's flesh and that you're a big "predator," and find a different way out. They almost definitely HAVE a way out, considering they got in there in the first place!

I would suggest getting a new mattress, cutting a little slit in the old one, and setting it out in your backyard or something. After a while of course get rid of it, but give the poor things a chance to be free if they want to be!

Mice aren't really that nasty, they smell but chances are they don't have diseases. People exaggerate how diseased rats/mice are, when really most are healthy when they live in your home, away from the harsh elements and with an easy access to food. So while I understand not wanting them there, you don't have to worry about disease as much as you probably are :)

Oh, you may want to try getting a cat and ditching the poison. They tend to learn about the poison and avoid it, but once a big scary predator moves in and tries to kill them, they get out ASAP. It also means having a nice kitty to keep you company!

Can mice chew through wood?

It's not the mole. Red Squirrels, Flying Squirrels and Norway Rats are notorious for causing your kind of trouble. Most any mouse or squirrel can gnaw through wood including Chipmunks (a squirrel). Chipmunks, for the most part, just make a mess with their tunnels and such, and usually are only enticed into buildings when there is a food source about. Email me if you want a sure fire way to nail a Red Squirrel.

What should I do if I ate nuts mice had probably chewed on?

It’s not the nibble that’s the problem so much—it’s the piddle. Mice running around dribble pee everywhere. Mouse pee can cause serious diseases like hantavirus. (See here: Diseases directly transmitted by rodents for a list of other diseases.)You might want to check with your local health authority to see if there are any mouse related diseases in your area—the serious ones aren’t everywhere If so, find out what the symptoms are are be on the lookout for them. For example, early symptoms of hantavirus are[1] :A fever and chills.Muscle aches and headache.Fatigue.Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and belly pain. Then go to a doctor immediately.Of course, now you’ll probably freak out at the every ache and pain, but at least you’re forewarned and if there are no known diseases in your area, you’ll probably be just fine. For what it’s worth, I spend my summers in a house where mice are practically roommates all year and I’ve never had a problem (knock wood!).Footnotes[1] Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome (HPS)-Topic Overview

Can Mice Get To Upstairs Areas, Or Chew Through Dry Plaster?

Mice and rats can chew their way through anything but hard metals. Steel wool can be used to block an opening/hole, but I've had that fail. They'll also chew through aluminum foil. If you've got something tempting out to attract the mice, like crumbs or food, they will make their way into your apartment if they want to. The easiest way is under sinks where there's openings for the pipes. They also like to come in from the cold, so if it's cold elsewhere, and your apartment is nice and warm, you could end up with unwanted visitors as well.

Now to calm your nerves - most likely there's enough warmth and food on the first floor of your building to keep them busy for a while before they consider moving upstairs... but I lived on a second floor when the entered my condo through the bathroom cabinet and had to seal off the walls with galvanized steel sheets.

Why do mice chew wires? What are the consequences?

What can rats chew through?

A better question would be: what CAN'T a rat chew through? As a loving rat daddy, the rats I have owned over the courselves of my life have attempted, all too often sucessfully to destroy some of the house with their mighty teeth. They are adorable, but you better watch watch you put on the floor if you dont want holes in it (or pee). What they haven't chewed through, they just didn't have the persistence to complete the job. They have left their teeth marks on lots of things: wooden table legs, door frames, waaaay too many ruined power cords, and the bars of their old wire cage. Given enough time, they couldve escaped. The secret is in their continuously growing teeth. See, with human made tools and non rodent animals, their  teeth wear down. If they didn't wear down, wit enough patience you could get through anything. But tooth become useless after a certain time, so they can't cut through all things. But a rat's teeth are different. They are self sharpening, self replenishing. But that's not all. Just because one thing is harder doesn't mean it doesn't take damage. A saw made of wood, though incredibly impractical, could eventually scrape away enough metal to cut through an iron bar. The same way, a rat's bone teeth could scrape away concrete. But one rats isn't enough to complete the job. They don't live long enough. However, a colony of rats could, and indeed do so on a regular basis. My old zoology teacher used to be a zookeeper at the henry doorly zoo. He frequently told us about the antics involved in being a zookeeper, one of those being the maintainence of the naked mole rat exhibit. They had a hard time figuring out how to keep the rodents in their enclosure because they kept escaping. Plastic? Nope, that was gone in less than a day. Glass? Nope, they ruined that in abit a week. Bullet proof glass? Nope, only two weeks. Steel? Nope, 3 months. Concrete? 9 months. They eventually decided to just cast a new house of concrete for them every 6 months so they didn't get a chance to chew through it. The short answer: anything it wants to.

How to mice-proof holes in drywall?

I have some field mice that like to hang out in my bathroom cabinet (safe from my two cats). I finally today pulled everything out of it and figured out where there coming from. There are some holes in the drywall where the sink pipes connect. Some of the holes are offset from the pipes by almost 2 inches and it's very hard to get my arm in there and maneuver it, so I'm afraid I won't be able to just seal it with joint compound (The cabinet is fixed in place, under the sink). I could do duct tape, but I imagine they'd chew through that pretty quickly. Any suggested alternatives? Maybe I could repel them somehow?

How can a rat chew through concrete?

Rats can chew through lead, cinder block, brick, mortar, aluminum, wood, glass, vinyl and improperly cured concrete. Rats and mice can't see beyond 3 or 4 feet but they have keen senses of smell, touch and hearing. This is why they are more active in the dark.
