Short story , please review?
I'm a little confused about what this is supposed to sound like. I mean, that idea is ridiculous... practically, it does not work... there is no way someone would be told that they were "hired" for some job they did not apply for etc... HowEVER, if this entire story is supposed to sound very surreal and very strange, it could work with some fixing up. Your writing is not always clear or necessarily as descriptive as it could be... John Smith is supposed to be very intelligent (as he writes to the paper continuously and, apparently, very well), but this isn't reflected in his thoughts or actions. If this is to be first-person, as it is, you need to go into much greater detail about what he is thinking, his internal reactions to his strange surroundings... if you want this story to come across as surreal, it needs to sound as though your narrator is being very specific about what he is thinking and feeling so that we know, definitively, if what is happening around him is SUPPOSED to be very strange to him or to us. To know what kind of surrealistic writing I'm talking about... read Eating Mammals by John Barlow (it's three novellas... I'm thinking specifically of the one about the man who eats stuff for a living... don't read that story if you have a weak stomach though), Coraline by Neil Gaiman or anything by Franz Kafka, especially Metamorphosis. Become familiar with those writers and you'll see what I mean. Besides that... if this story is supposed to be surreal, strange... I like the touch at the end where his wife is carrying the red bag. I think if you had built up to that conclusion a little differently it could have worked out very well. I actually honestly believe, though, that this story could be REALLY interesting if you paid more attention to style and generally by fixing it up... so I'm going to say that, if you'd like, you can e-mail me at cadbury_creme_eggs at hotmail dot com if you would like further criticism and maybe some collaborative effort :) I really want to see this story worked on, because I think it has real potential.
Where can I get my short story reviewed?
If you could hire a professional editor to give you a review, this would be expensive. Also, this person will not know you or the context in which you write. And you would have no easy opportunity for back and forth conversation about their review. Much more useful, and free, would be the advice of a friend. With this person, who knows you, you can discuss context and details both small and large. If your friend is also a writer, you can take turns reviewing each other's work. Ideal. Best wishes.

Review my Short Story Please? some suggestions?
Hey there, thanks for taking the time to read this question :) I've just finished a short story for my year 12 Creative Writing Class. Just wondering if one of you lot out there would like to read/edit/review/make suggestions for me? I'd really appreciate because my teacher doesn't have a whole lot of time to mark them and make in-depth suggestions, and I'll need to submit in my end of year folio. It's about a guy called Ron whose wife died a year ago, and he deals with the grief on the first anniversary of the tragedy... For SF, fantasy, and horror genre short stories, there's Critters, www.critique.org. You must review others' stories regularly in order to have your own reviewed. The reviews can in depth in quality from excellent in-depth analyses to 2 lines of generic advice/congratulations. Fortunately the latter are rare, and in general people are there to learn and improve, so they will spend as much time on their editing skills (by reviewing the work in the queue) as on developing their own writing skills (by incorporating or rejecting feedback, polishing prose, and reworking). Shorter stories get higher numbers of review.

The Martyr's Corner is a story about a man called Rama, who sells food on a street corner that is strategically located. The business is good and husband and wife live in perfect harmony. The lack of education does not mean a poor and unhappy life for Rama, who was said to be "earning more money than graduates". He has a steady clientele but one day riots erupt in his corner of the world and change the life for him and his wife forever. The external circumstances overturn previously happy lives and characters are not in control of their destiny.
