Can You Object To A Witness While You

When you are a witness in court, could you yourself object to a lawyer's objection?

When you are a witness in court, could you yourself object to a lawyer's objection? For example, if you are testifying in court, and you are sworn to tell the whole truth, and an objection from either lawyer prevents you from telling the whole truth. Do you have a right to object the objection? Can you even object as a witness? What would that be called?

Can a person on the witness stand object to a line of questioning if their lawyer doesn't?

In principle, yes, although the grounds a witness would have would be few, mainly a privilege, such as the privilege against self-incrimination, or attorney-client privilege. However, there are many things a witness can say that serve the same purpose as an objection without sounding like one. A witness may say “I don’t understand the question” or “"I can’t answer the question the way it is phrased.(For example “"when did you stop beating your wife?”). Those are functionally objections to the form of the question. They also tell you how best to “object”: don’t act like a lawyer and “object”; act like a cautious non-lawyer trying in good faith to give an honest, thoughtful response.Borderline statements like: “I’m not going to speculate” or “That’s a hypothetical question” may or may not succeed. They may, however, roust your attorney from napping. But objections to relevance or parol evidence or hearsay are not going to go over well.

Are trial defendants and/or witnesses allowed to object to a question asked of them if neither of the attorneys object?

You are asking two questions, one (1) about a defendant on the stand and another (2) about a witness who is not the defendant.1. Regarding the defendant, yes, the objection would typically come from his/her attorney, but the attorney represents the defendant, so the defendant can speak directly. If a defendant on the stand objected, of course, the judge would need to rule on it. Judges, however, dislike commoners who think they know as much as the priestly attorneys. So, the judge may rule to deny the objection simply on that basis. This may be grounds for appeal, but the trial at hand could be lost.2. Regarding a simple witness, yes again, but the objection would need to be relevant to the witness themselves. The witness could say, "Objection, irrelevant", but one of the lawyers would need to take it from there. In any case, the judge may instruct the witness to answer anyway. This amounts to a ruling. In the famous OJ Simpson case, when Kardashian was on the stand and asked a question about (IIRC) a conversation with OJ, Kardashian answered, "That's privileged". There was no objection voiced by OJ's attorneys, and Kardashian wasn't OJ's official lawyer. (This is in Darden's book In Contempt .)

Why do Jehovah's Witnesses object to harvest festivals and special times of thanksgiving, in view of Ex 23:16?

Because it is a national holiday, we are no part of the world (John 17:16)

Besides that, we SHOW our thankfulness to God everyday, there is no need for a special day for that.

P.S: I am not American, where I live it's not an issue.

Why do Jehovah's Witnesses believe they can call on the name Jehovah to get rid of demons?

"Do you end your prayers in Jesus name? Why? Bible says to, right? Why not skip this part and go straight to Jehovah? It's not what the bible says. Just like casing out demons... is to be in JESUS' name."

Is there any more that needs to be said? If God's Word gives us specific directions, should we not follow it?

It seems odd that in one scenario, a person can abide so carefully by the Word of God, down to the letter (..."in Jesus name we pray, Amen."), yet in another situation should be handled in a contrary manner, failing to recognize the special honor and
--= POWER =-- in the name by which we are saved, Jesus (I AM Salvation).

Philippians 2:10
That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth

Rom 10:9-13:

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Under what grounds could an attorney object to questioning of a witness?

There are a number of bases on which a potential witness could be prevented from giving any evidence at all. There are also a number of bases on which an actual witness could be directed by the Court not to answer a question (or the jury directed by the Court to ignore an answer given before an objection has been determined by the Court)In NSW, the Evidence Act (see this Page on austlii.edu.au) is the starting point. Happy reading!

Jehovah’s Witnesses, can you please explain this?

I want to strongly assert that I am not trying to be funny, I am not trying to insult anyone and I am not calling anyone names. I simply would like a reasonable and honest answer to this question.

On numerous occasions there has been a change in policy and/or beliefs within the Jehovah’s Witnesses organization. There have been times when something was stated as fact then later the official position was changed making what was stated as fact no longer a fact and then still later the original position was reaffirmed making it fact once again. Each time there is a change it is explained as you are receiving more light.

That brings me to my question. If you are someplace where more light is needed, then by definition are you not in darkness? If there is open the possibility that you may need more light in the future or are open to the possibility you may receive more light, then by definition are you not still in darkness? If something is “light” on one day, darkness the following day and then on yet another day light again, was it not in actuality always darkness by definition? If you have a friend a teacher or a parent who tells you something that turns out to not be true and that happens time and time again do you not at some point start to question everything that you are told by that individual? If God is a God of light, then how could today’s light be tomorrow’s darkness? The Bible teaches us that God is the same today, tomorrow and forever. If someone tells us that we need to now change our beliefs because God gave us darkness yesterday but today has given us light, then does that not leave only two possible courses of action? One is to question the knowledge, wisdom and truthfulness of God, and the other course of action is to question the knowledge, wisdom and truthfulness of the individual(s) that make that claim.

I tend to think on a very deep and profound level and I believe I could make a list beforehand of every possible answer and I would come up with possible answers that no one else has even considered. But then I would be answering my own question, and my sincere hope is that someone will come up with something that I have not considered, something that will make sense to what seems to me to be an answerless conundrum. That conundrum is nothing more or less than how can something be both darkness and light?

Your answer, please?

Would giving flowers to jehovah witness be a bad idea?

64% of children raised as a Jehovah's Witness eventually leave the religion. They have the worst retention rate of all surveyed religions.

There is a good chance, especially since she hasn't told you that she's a JW, that she is just going through the motions for her parents. I'd say get a gift, she may be thankful that you don't treat her like a JW or she may politely decline, but she will likely remember the act of kindness.

Chances are, even if she likes you, she will not be allowed to formally go on a date with you. The Witnesses encourage spying on each other to ensure compliance with their rules. Her parents would see you only as an agent of Satan trying to lure their daughter away from the impending destruction of 7.5 billion people.

Kinda creepy.

What do these objections mean for mock trial?

you dont need to answer all of them:
objection of relevance, objection 352, objection character, objection opinion of lay witness, objection of speculation, objection of Expert Witness and Opinion Testimony, objection of hearsay and its exceptions, objection leading question, objection compund question, objection narrative, objection argumentative, asked and answered, vague and ambiguous, non responsive, outside scope of cross
