Car Jerking When Accelarating

My car jerks while accelerating?

This problem just started the other day (just got it a couple weeks ago). I stopped at an intersection, and when I accelerated the car jerked rapidly (it kind of felt like driving over a washboard); it only lasted a couple seconds but was very noticeable. I think it might be a sticking brake since it only happens when accelerating from a stop, and it only happens some times at random.

I have a 1998 Olds 88.

What could be the problem, or how can I check and fix it before going to a mechanic?

Car jerks when accelerating past 40mph and then 60mph.?

I have a 2000 Ford Focus ZTS automatic with 98,000 miles. Earlier this week it started jerking when I accelerated to 60mph. A few days later it started jerking as I accelerated to 40mph. The car runs fine below 40mph and after the jerking works it's way through. Any idea of what's going on?

Why could my car be jerking when accelerating uphill?

This is a common issue with the 2.5L engine, you have failing "Coil Pack(s)
Have you noticed the CEL (Check Engine Light) flashing or on steady?
Have you ever had the vehicle in for a tune-up?
What causes the Coil Packs to fail is worn spark plugs causing an excessively high firing KV requirement and will burn up the Coil Packs!

NOTE: A Bucking/Jerking condition under acceleration is normally always caused by an ignition issue.

Car jerking while accelerating and then stalling?

Was driving my mom's car. It's an '02 Buick LeSabre. Got 155,000 miles on it if that matters. Started it up, was pulling out of a parking space, tried to accelerate and it didn't really wanna go but was really jerky. Then it stalled. Started right back up. Drove for a while more with no problems. Coming home, stopped at a light, tried to accelerate and it did that jerky thing and stalled again but started up yet again and drove home the rest of the way ok. Any ideas what's wrong? And the cost to fix?

Why does my car jerk when accelerating from a stop?

Ok, i got a 1987 325is bmw. It just started jerking a couple weeks ago so i havin't been driving it to much. It jerks when i accelerate to much from a start but is fine once its not to high in RPM's. I also notice when on the interstate doing 70-80 the dash likes to shake aswell but that may be normal idk. 2 things me and my cousins have through of may be the problem. One of them is maybe the flex coupling on the driveshaft or maybe CV joint. My cars also has minimum slippage and is rear wheel drive. I've Also notice when i turn a corner the outside back tire will peel out a little =\. I did change the O2 sensor in it before this started happening about a week before this problem started. ANy suggestion would be awesome.

Thank You, Brandon

Why does my car jerks when i accelerate?

Check the transmission fluid level, color and odor. If its brown or smells burned then it could cause problems with the transmission. If it feels like the car is:
jerking- it could be fuel related, restriction in catalytic converter or muffler

hesitating- short circuit in spark plug wires or fouled spark plugs.

engine rpms increase but slow increase in speed- transmission is slipping. Check the transmission fluid level and condition.

Car jerks when accelerating from a complete stop?

I find it hard to believe the "hick-up" you feel is transmission related. If the ignition has been misfiring, has the check engine light ever flashed on? A Chevrolet dealer could read the code which usually leads to one of the three ignition coils or the ignition pick-up module itself. Bare in mind that if just one of the three ignition coils quits momentarily you drop two cylinders on opposite banks at the exact same instant. The jerk you feel will be a heck of a snap in the head.

I'm dying to know when you had the transmission fluid changed did they*flush it /or/ drop the pan off the bottom of the transmission, drain it and change the filter? It'll say what they did in your bill. Occasionally it's hard to understand bills. If you call the dealer they can tell you if they flushed or drained the fluid.

Transmission flushes are dangerous on a car with as many miles as yours. When the fluid is flushed out of the transmission the dirt and residue in the bottom of the transmission ban is forced backwards through the delicate valve body (brain) on the bottom of the transmission. There are small passageways, check-balls, plungers, springs and valves where this filthy fluid and trash is forced to go.

Why my Car jerks during acceleration and driving. Its a chevy spark ls 2008.Jerks present in all gears and in high and low speeds and felt usually higher with AC on.Car hesitates to accelerate .The check engine light is on.Pls clarify?

If you are feeling the jerk while you drive, there must be a problem with the clutch. As you are also noticing the check engine light is on, some power train systems maybe malfunctioning. Or there'd be an issue with the belts. Also check the engine oil level once.

Why is my car is jerking upon acceleration and deceleration at low RPM's?

I have a 1986 Toyota Camry with 5-speed with 2.0L gas FI. Recently (since after having my problem) I have replaced the distributor cap and rotor, plug wires, spark plugs, and fuel filter. The car seems to miss a little at idle and the miss gets much worse while driving at low rpm's. It jerks real bad while driving. i.e. have you ever had a manual car that you let out the clutch without pushing on the gas and it jerks real bad and then it dies? Well my car does that while driving at low RPM's. At high rpm's it runs GREAT. In any gear if you let off the gas it JERKS real hard. Keep your foot on the gas and you would never think anything is wrong with the car. I really think it has something to do with the engine (and not transmission or clutch) since it misses a little at idle. The timing on the distributor has been checked and adjusted also. The most intelligent educated guess that I have received so far is that the signal generator is bad inside the distributor? Appreciate help!

Why does my car feel jerky when I accelerate?

It could be anything, literally, anything. A clogged air filter, an air leak in the intake system, a dirty airflow sensor, dirty injectors, a failing fuel pump, a failing RPM sensor. Probably not bad plugs.Find an empty road and drive it at the jerky speed for several minutes, that may give the engine computer enough time and enough info to decide what the problem is and lock in an error code. If the “check engine” light comes on you have achieved that goal. Take the car to a service place or if you want read out the code yourself. The code may narrow down the problem.
