Cb Radio Not Getting Reception. Only Static

Cb radio not getting reception. only static?

There are days when the CB is quiet, you won't hear anything but static, but usually channel 6 you will hear someone from the south.

You should have tested it before going out and buying antennas, you could have just stuck any wire in the hole in the back so you could listen, but not transmit, but at least you would have known it receives and then you can hope it transmits.

If you don't hear anything a different times during the day on channel 6 then it's burned out. Just go buy another one, you can get cheap ones for $20 or get a new one, those Uniden 510xl CB's are pretty good and cheap for a little CB, or if you have the money get yourself a Cobra 25

You need an SWR meter to make sure the antennas are matched good, when you transmit, doesn't matter for receiving

My CB radio has no squelch or static?

I have a Cobra 29 Ltd. I had the antenna off for about a month then when I reconnected, my radio quit working. I can still receive the weather and my PA works just fine. I just have no static or squelch at all!! even when I set the gain high and squelch low I get nothing. When I try to tune up the swr, my needle does not even move a bit. it stays stationary. The transmitting/receiving light is on so I'm not sure what the problem is. I am aware that with the antenna I have, it has to be grounded. Although my ground wires are insulated, the ends (where they connect wire-to-car frame) look Corroded. Could this be the problem? I am not sure if its the radio or the antenna. Please help!

Why does my radio scanner stay open on static after receiving a CB 27mhz range signal?

I have a Radioshack PRO-197 radio scanner. I also have many CB radios (they operate 40 channels in the 27Mhz range, for those who don't know).

I have many channels programmed, but the CB range seems to have issues. If i pick up a CB signal, the scanner stays open on that channel (meaning still receiving, and with nothing there its static), even with the squelch at max. I've moved between the antenna on the back, to a multi-antenna system on the roof. It still has the same problem. Is it just that frequency range, or is it interfearance?

Additional: It is pure static, no words hidden in it at all, no electronic sounds. Ive had radios and scanners for a long time and i know what diffrent statics are for the most part. Every once in a while of coarse i hear words through the static, but that happens as well on any CB.

(BTW, couldn't find a correct category for this)

My car radio wont pick up any stations, only static?

If your car radio is sounding more like a can of ginger ale on a hot day than a car stereo, there might be a simple solution right in front of you.
Ok, there are a number of things that can cause your car stereo to lose its reception quality, but this is one of the most common and easily remedied. The problem: a loose radio antenna.

Sounds too stupid to be true, but if your car has a long, stiff "whip" style antenna, as many cars today come with, it could just be loose, causing you to get static. The antenna screws into its base on the fender just like anything else. All you need to do is check it for tightness. If it's loose, hand tighten it then give it a little extra nudge with a wrench or pliers (careful not to scratch the paint!).

If it was loose, you'll be bathed in static free car stereo sound once again.

Have a Good Day !

FM Radio not working in car?

The first thing you need to do is check the antenna on the outside of your car. Make sure it is there and screwed in tight. If it is and your radio still doesn't work, you need to take the radio out to check the connections on the back. You will probably need to take the dash off to get to it. The radio is probably held on by 2 or 4 screws or bolts. Once those are removed, slide the radio out just enough to see the connections on the back. There should be speaker outputs and maybe a seprate power and ground wire. The FM antenna connection is probably in a corner. If it is connected and pushed in all the way and your radio still doesn't work, there is probably either a break in the wire of the antenna somewhere or your radio is messed up.

Im getting static on my CB when using my windshield washer fluid or starting vehicle..?

I've been getting static and a squeeling type of noise in my cb radio when I'm using the windshield washer fluid and starting the vehicle. What would cause this and how do I fix it?

I believe I get this static in the background when I'm receiving transmissions over the cb...

I've used different types of antenna such as magnet mount and now I use dual fiberglass antenna's, which I have mounted with brass mounts to the top roof racks on my SUV. I only have 1 cb antenna hooked up though cause I hear its tough to tune 2 antennas together. Could this be a grounding issue with my antenna thats hooked up? How would I fix that? My SWR's are about 3 and I didn't want to cut down the antennas until I found out if the static in my cb is caused by the power source of my cb or if it was the antenna indeed.

I have my cb hooked up to a "hot fuse" in the fuse box, and the ground wire is grounded to the frame.

Thanks so much in advance for the help.

A radio station is better heard on rainy days. Why? Do clouds block out the solar interference or does the excess water vapor, act as an antenna?

Interestingly, I have found quite the opposite: it's been my experience that weather conditions can affect certain radio stations negatively.  But these conditions do not affect ALL radio stations.  Bad weather, whether thunder and lightning or heavy rain, seems to mainly be a problem for AM stations (and sometimes for Shortwave).  Atmospheric interference affects some AM stations because amplitude modulation (what the initials "AM" stand for) is more susceptible to rain and snow and other weather extremes; sunspots can also be a problem for AM, and for Shortwave.  But that said, I haven't found any of this to be a problem for FM (frequency modulation) stations.  Perhaps others with an engineering background can add more to my answer, or explain why some stations might sound better on rainy days.

CB radio power line interference?

I'm running a little Cobra 19 DX IV with a 4' Firestik fiberglass antenna trunk mounted on a 99 Pontiac Sunfire. The first day I installed the radio, I took a drive around the block to see if I was getting interference, sadly, I was getting huge amounts of RFI. However, the interference only happened when the car was actually moving. Sitting in my driveway revving the engine and turning on the fans didn't create a problem. After some tweaking and many quick drives around the block over a few days, I gave up. After having the radio in for a few weeks I noticed that in some places while driving I had almost no interference while in others, it over powered everything. I then noticed that there was a direct connection between power lines running along side the road and interference. The higher voltage the line, the worse the interference. However, even just residential lines cause big problems. This makes my CB almost useless anywhere in my town or any town, since their are power lines pretty much everywhere. The 10 mile drive to my girlfriends house is useless for my CB too since there are large (I think around 130k volt) lines that run the entire road and literally through her back yard. If I'm outside of a town and their aren't any lines. I have absolutely no interference at all, not even from the car doing 60+ mph with the fans on high. Why does it seem like I am having far more problems with this type of interference then most? Is there anything I can do to help combat the problem without destroying the power grid across the United States lol? Is it just cause I have the cheapest CB you can buy? Is it some problem with the antenna? Is there some sort of filter that can be placed between the CB and antenna to help eliminate anything other than the 27mhz frequency?

I know I wrote a book here, so thanks to anyone who read the whole thing.

I just bought a weather radio but why is there only static?

I had the same problem when I first bought mine 6 years ago. It turns out that the station transmitter was down for 5 days so it wasn't working. But then after they fixed it, it worked. Make sure it's on the right channel. For mine, it was Channel 7. Make sure the antenna is fully extended. If it's a wire you have to hold it out. Also mine only picks up a broadcast no more than 65km (40 mi.) from the station's transmitter. Here's a link for a list of stations and you find which one's yours:
