I'm confused about the Civil Service Exam?

So, I have finally completed all of my fire training and certifications, went through EMT-B and EMT-P in the state of Ohio. How does the Civil Service Exam work?

How long is a civil service test?

Each paper is of 2 hours duration please

Who set the civil service exam question paper?

The organizing institution, i.e. the UPSC/ State PSC, sends a syllabus to the reputed and senior professors and experts of various fields like history, geography, science, etc. All the paper setters are provided with the syllabus of the examination. The paper setters are advised to prepare a set of questions with varying difficulty level, viz, easy, medium, tough (in varying percentage of the total number of questions). The paper setters are advised to not to disclose the questions to any other person. If the examiner prepares a rough set of questions before setting up the final list, then also he has to send the rough sheet along with the other documents. The paper setter is asked to give a written statement that nothing belonging to the examination (questions/ keys) is held with him/her so that in case of any kind of breach, the paper setter can be taken under scanner. The paper setter has to provide with the details of each answer by providing with the details of the book/journal/newspaper from where the question has been framed (eg: page no., editor, publisher, etc). Since no setter wants to land into any controversy, only the authentic content is used (that is why people suggest reading NCERT as they are official prints by the govt and can be challenged in courts in case of any discrepancy). After all the paper setters send their question sets, all the questions are reviewed by a panel of experts of the institution (eg: UPSC), who select the best of all these questions. Then the selected questions are put into a random software as per the difficulty level. Then from this ocean of questions, the required number of questions are selected and only the Chairman has the information of the selected questions. These questions are then sent to the press for printing and then dispatched to the examination centers duly before 1–2 hr of the start of the exam.Regarding the checking of mains copies, the examiners may or may not be the ones who prepared the prelims/ mains paper. The examiners are given special instructions and training of how the copies need to be checked. After this, each examiner is allotted a specific number of days and a specific number of copies per day. The checking of answer sheets is carried out at the institution’s headquarters/ office.Source: quora

What question answer book should I buy for the UPSC Civil Service Exam?

Don't go through any publication or writer .Go to the UPSC official website and download the previous year paper.Or you can easily found in market.Buy last 10–20 yrs previous year paper which was set by UPSC commission.and it is more beneficial for you to tackle the UPSC

How many days before the civil services exams (I AS, IPS) are the question papers for the preliminary and Mains exam will be prepared, and who prepares them?

There is no means of bothering who makes the questionMy dear friends , we have to cover the current just before 2 days left of examBut for kind information Upscale prepares 20 days before allocating exam admit card and respective centre's before both prelims. And Mains exams.

Why is it that if I take a Civil Service exam and score the same as a Black or Hispanic they get the job?

Because minorities are actually given special treatment. I think that's WRONG. There's nothing equal about the EOE and if someone applies, then there should not be any special points boosted based on what RACE the applicants are. THAT is unfair. The world does not owe certain races a living or even a running start in the game because of something that had taken place before we all were born. If race shouldn't matter, then IT SHOULDN'T MATTER! I am against slavery and I never met any, either. Stop bringing the race card up - it's TIRED and now there's ALL races getting unfair treatment by doing this.

Has anyone taken a civil service exam?

I am in NJ and I have taken several of these. The ones here that I have taken and my friends have taken have been strictly multiple choice questions. You may want to see if you can call or find the website for your state's Dept. of Personnel or Employment. They should have info. about the test and may even have a test study guide.

Make sure you follow ALL rules about the exam day. From my experience and what I have seen:

DO NOT BE LATE to the exam
DO NOT bring a cell phone or anything else in there like that
Bring whatever ID they ask for, follow all rules as to what to bring and not to bring or you can wind up being excused and forfeit the test

If they tell you that you can bring a calculator, do so. There MAY be basic math questions on there. You really cannot know unless you have a guide. I have had 2 tests for entry level jobs and they were not too bad. Common sense most of the time. I also had a hard test but it was for a very specific job that required a college degree. I think the tests will be harder if the job requires more things.

It sounds like they are making you all take a basic one. Try not to be too stressed out, because you should do fine. Just take your time and make sure you read each question thoroughly to see what it wants.

GOOD LUCK!
