Why is every website suddenly asking about cookies in May 2018?

You may have noticed in the past few months, websites you have registered with in the past have been sending you updated privacy policy emails. This is due to the new law.

I found this thread by searching "why is Pinterest forcing me to sign up".I just wanted to look at something, not have to sign up. Despite what the Engineer says above, you cannot get rid of the black banner that takes up half the page. Boo pinterest. Just came here to tell you I will never sign up now because of that AND I backed out quickly and I am going to visit other sites instead!! Please change that box to something not annoying. Perhaps an optional sign up box that you can remove.Consent is sexy. Forcing is disgusting.
