Computer Beeps After Installing New Video Card

Computer beeps with new video card?

Haha! No. It's definitely compatible if it's PCI-Express.

First off, you seem to have a bit of knowledge about PCs, so if this is all rudimentary stuff for you, I apologize. That said, it never hurts to check your fundamentals!

The beeps are from the motherboard, so they won't tell you anything about the video card specifically. From the looks of it, it won't tell you anything you don't already know, but it would still be worth looking up just in case. Just Google your motherboard's name with "BIOS beep codes." This is an example: http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/sb/cs-010249.htm

Generally, a manufacturer has the same beep codes with all of their motherboards. Since this is an HP PC, you'll need to research that particular model.

I wouldn't immediately point fingers at the video card. Issues with those are uncommon.

As for your problem, I can guess a few possible scenarios:

1. The card isn't seated completely. Don't be afraid to put some pressure on it. When you put the card in, look at the contacts going into the PCI-E slot. If you see the gold contacts at an angle, it's not in all the way. I've installed numerous video cards, and I've STILL messed this up installing into a crowded case.

2. Possibly faulty PCI-E Slot. If the PC has two PCI-E slots, try out the second one. If you bought it on eBay, there's no telling. It's likely the seller never tested the PCI-E slots, so they could definitely be faulty.

3. Did you remember to hook up external power? A 5850 probably has two power connectors, right?

4. Disable onboard video. Uninstall all drivers for onboard video, boot into safe mode and run Driver Sweeper (Google it, great program), and disable onboard video in the BIOS. NOTE: Now that I've written this, I feel like this is the most likely scenario.

All that said, the first thing I'd do is plug that card into a working PC. If you've got a PC with AMD video already, even better. Plug that sucker in, and see if she boots.

Installing a new computer?

this computer supposedly runs on windows 98 2nd edition, it's a very old computer, the beeps are very long and keep going. Also this computer comes from an office environent where it might have been networked. There is aother computer same deal but it runs on windows 2000 proffesional.

What does this continuous loud beep after installing my new video card mean?

After installing my ATI Radeon HD 6970 and a new 700 watt PSU, I get a high pitched continuous beep that doesn't end with no display on my monitor, which I earlier thought meant it wasn't getting enough power with the weaker PSU I had. Replacing the 6970 with the 5770 causes no problems and I'm able to boot fine so I think it's something to do with the 6970, so I have a few questions regarding this. 1: Is it not getting enough power? 2: If it isn't getting enough power, is there a way to remedy this without buying yet another PSU? And 3: If it is getting enough power, what could be the problem?

My Computer Started to Beep Under Load After New Video Card Instalation?

Hi, I recently got two nvidia GTX 470 in sli. However when ever a play a high end graphics game under high settings and resolution(like metro 2033 at very high settings and 1900/1200 resolution) the computer(probably video card) start to beep. Interestingly when a lower settings and resolution the beeps generally stop or only happen at times when higher graphics processing is required like going through fog, smoke or explosions and after passing fog smoke or explosions the beep stops. In my opinion the problem is not temperature related because the cards are quite cold event at heavy load(around 85 C which is cold for nvidia based cards) also ı believe it is not cpu related because ı have been using that cpu for quite a long time without any problems(and the problem stated with the new video cards). I think my problem is related to my power supply ,which is 750watts(and ı have many extra components like liquid cooling and case lights). I think 750 watts cannot supply enough power for 470 sli and under heavy load, the video cards beeps to warn about power shortage. I am really interested in learning your opinions and if my PSU explanation is true or not. And if it is PSU related , how much watts i require for a 470 gtx sli. Thank You.

Can't enter bios after installing new graphics card and beeps when start up?

You completely switch brands. My guess is the driver for the Radeon is causing a problem with the NVIDIA card. Uninstall the drivers on your machine for the Radeon and then when you add the NVIDIA install their drivers. Let me know if that helps.

EDIT: you may need to start the pc with no card inserted to uninstall the drivers/software. Not sure haven't actually switch brands like that.

I got a new video card and my pc beeps 6 times?

try this one:

Try to check whether the video card cable is properly connected.
check whether the video card is properly inserted..
also check whether you have inserted in the correct slot....
verify the video card is properly in a working state.

I just installed a graphics card and there is no video output. Why is that?

First thing to check is where your video cable is plugged in.  If your graphics card is operating correctly, then you have to have your video cable plugged into the output port of the graphics card, not to the output port on the motherboard.  I made that mistake when I installed my graphics card recently. If that doesn't fix it, the next thing to do is to remove the graphics card, boot up the computer and enter the BIOS settings and disable the CPU integrated graphics, then turn off the computer and reinstall the graphics card.Another thing to check would be to make sure that your graphics card is getting power.  The power supply should have a cable directly hooked up to the card.
