Could I Get Into Stanford Or Mit With These

Stanford vs MIT?

MIT's Sloan school is the place to go to for business. Stanford is not even on the top 10 list of business schools, while MIT is at #4. Check out the link attached for business school ranking.

MIT is in Cambrige, MA, the area around (0.5 radius) it has tons of clubs and bars.

When I was in school, MIT frat houses had great parties and fantastic pranks. Both Boston and Cambridge are HUGE college towns. Businesses in the area are catered to feed or entertain college students. Not unless you are a hardcore hermit, you will always have a good time in Boston - does not matter whether you go to MIT or other colleges in the area.

Is it harder to get into Stanford or MIT?

Plenty of good answers already that touch on the metaphysical questions. My one practical consideration is that Stanford has a very active NCAA sports presence and that a decent component of every class incorporates high performing athletes. If you are a Div. 1 level athlete, I suspect that Stanford might be more accessible to you than MIT. However, if you are not a college athlete, I suspect that the number of slots taken by athletes at Stanford might slightly diminish your odds of admission. Moreover, there’s a significant humanities component to the Stanford in-coming class, and I presume that most of these kids might not be first-in-line admits for MIT. Similarly, if you’re interested in a computer science/engineering (“STEM”) academic track, there are presumably less slots available for you at Stanford (“Oh the humanities!”).Something to consider.

Can I get into MIT, Stanford or Harvard?

Hey thereFirst off, it's not B.Tech in the US...at least not in the ivy universities. It's BS (Bachelor of science). TOEFL: Your TOEFL scores are pretty low. You don't need to do the TOEFL though if you are doing the SAT 1. SAT 1: Talking about the SAT 1: what you see in the practice test online is much easier than the actual test. I pirated real SATs over the years from the internet. SAT Math is pretty much like an olympiad...at least it turns out to be as you move further on. SAT English is the real killer. They ask you about vocabulary you don't even know or have never heard off. You need to study for the SAT English for at least a year to score well. The essays also have to be good. If you get a 90/120 for the TOEFL you are cerrainly not going to do well in SAT English because the TOEFL is easy. SAT 2: SAT 1 is not the only test you take. You also have to do the SAT Subject tests! And SAT Subject Tests are much harder. They are class 11-12 level. SAT 1 is class 10 level. You have to do a Math subject test and a Science (choose - physics, chemistry or biology)School ReportYour school reports are perfect. There's no problem in your marks. A 9.8 CGPA is great! Extra curricular: You seem to have good trophies for science BUT what about extra-curriculars? You should have done some sport or public speaking or something during school. Otherwise, MIT or some other Ivy university have a very small chance of taking you unless you write killer essays.Essays: be yourself in your essays and tell them who you are. Don't pretend to be someone else. Write 'killer' english (I know my grammar's wrong but some slang is fine). That's it. Your Essays are the part that matter the most.A small note on financial aid: MIT or Harvard cost $67-70k per annum which translates to Rs40-50 lakh per annum! These universities offer good financial aid facilities but if you don't get financial aid and if you can't afford the university...and you get a student loan, then its gonna take you many years to pay back how much...3-3.5crore Rupees?

M.S. Stanford or MIT vs PhD from UC Santa Cruz?

I'm not saying this because Stanford or MIT are considered more prestigious than UCSC, but realistically masters program in those two institution have more weight than PhD from UCSC.

Masters program usually takes two years, where PhD takes 4-6 years.
In the field of research, where you get your terminal degree matters.
(ex. doctoral degree from CSU vs. doctoral degree from UC).

So you want your terminal degree to be the best possible school you can attend. It seems that you are a strong candidate for masters program in Stanford and MIT. You may want to pursue masters program first, and get to know those wonderful faculties and explore to gain more research ideas.

After you get your masters, you can then apply for doctoral program at the same institution or better schools (ex. Princeton).

It may take a year or two more than directly going to PhD program, but if you are into the research, those extra 1-2 years will reward you greatly.

Can I get into Stanford, USC, or MIT with a C in Honors Chem?

Ok so I'm crazy scared. I really want to get into one of these schools, and I'm afraid if I don't I'm going to dissapoint my parents. I'm a current sophomore. My last year gpa was a 3.8 . I'm expecting this semesters gpa to be a 3.7 with a C in honors chemistry. Next semester I'm expecting to get my act together and get a 4.2 gpa. By the end of my junior year I expect to have a 4.1 WEIGHTED gpa. I havtt taken SATS yet but I'm hoping to get a 2150, and a good ACT score. ECs: I'm a varsity tennis player, I play the viola, I'm on the aca deca team, I'm one of the founders of my schools Engineering clubs, and I have about 20 hours of community service right now. It will surely go up next year. My question is can I get into any of these schools ( preferably Stanford) with my C in chemistry? or is it going to haunt me for the rest of my life. plea help. I'm scared

Stanford or MIT... Need help fast!!?

So I finally narrowed down my choices to MIT and Stanford.. I visited both campuses and loved things from both schools.

I love the energy in MIT and of course Boston, I love the school spirit at the beautiful campus at Stanford... People at both schools were welcoming and friendly....etc. etc.

However,,, I need to make my decision by Friday, and I keep going back and forth on the schools not knowing where to go.

I like MIT because of the opportunity to go to Cambridge/Oxford Universities, and because I got a vive that students at MIT get better job offers than at Stanford...

However, I think I might be happier at Stanford, so I just want to know if it's true that MIT students are regarded as "smarter" and really get better job offers than at MIT.

I'm not completely sure on what I want to major in, but I'm thinking about something in math/science. If I was a 100% sure I wanted to be an engineer I would have picked MIT without a doubt, however this is not the case.

Any comments or information regarding both schools would help.

Thankss :]

How do I get over not getting into MIT and Stanford?

You need a reality check. Do you really think that going to one of these schools is settling?! I have friends who go to all three of these schools, and trust me when I say that the programs are very rigorous (especially RPI and WPI). You will get a solid education at any of these schools, even if they are not as prestigious as MIT or Stanford.I know this is a tough pill to swallow, but sometimes life does not go the way you wanted it to. I had good grades in high school and did decently well on standardized exams (very well on AP exams), but for financial reasons I decided to be a part of the honors program at a school where I was easily above the 75th percentile in terms of grades and scores. It was tough to adjust to (considering my friends all went to prestigious schools), but do I regret it? Not at all. I have made good friends, I love my job at the school library, I have a great set of classmates and professors in my major, and I have had the chance to work closely with professors doing undergraduate research. I have gotten the opportunity to do two summer research programs at more research-heavy institutions, and to present my research at my home school, and all over the country (the biggest one being at the annual conference of the American Association for Cancer Research). I have been accepted in both doctoral programs and master's programs in my field of study at well-known schools, though I go to a school that is unknown.Trust me when I say that the only limit to your success is you, and you can go far regardless of the school you came from. I think as long as you go into it with an open mind, you will be happy anywhere you go. Good luck!

Is it easier to get into Harvard, MIT, or Stanford?

Each has its own idea of what makes a perfect addition to their undergraduate community. Harvard is Liberal Arts. MIT is pure Technology and Stanford has a combination that also emphasizes the liberal arts. Different types of people with different interests. It is possible that one person is Not a good fit with all three. And Stanford admits less than 5% of the applicants, Harvard less than 6% and MIT less than 8%. And Stanford holds “asking for financial aid” Against you, if you are an international applicant.
