Did I Break Something In My Foot

Can you drop something on your foot to break it?

How to break your foot while sleeping?

Kicking the wall(if your beds near it)
Falling of the bed and landing on your foot awkwardly.
moving around in your sleep and move your foot into awkward position and ankle rolls out ( I don't think thats possible though)

I dropped something really hard on my foot and now my toe looks like this. Should I just leave it to heal or go to the doctor?

Am a nurse. I worked years in the urgent care. We have seen many of this.Depending on how hard the object (and how heavy it is), the bone in your toe may not have broken, or cracked. But what is happening is that you’ve hematoma, which is basically a bruise. Normally it’s not a big deal, but you’re bleeding under the toe nail-that is causing the pain.Eventually your toe nail may fall off (but it will sooner or later grow back). To relieve the “pressure” under the toe nail, a doctor will use a paperclip (I am not kidding about this), and quickly poke a hole in it. You’re asking how in the world? He’d light it with a lighter first (until it glows red from the heat). This is not something you should do yourself as it is like trying to give yourself a shot, or draw blood from one’s own arm.At the urgent care that I worked, we use this http://www.liveactionsafety.com/...They will certainly x-ray it to see if the bone of the toe is broken. But guess what? You won’t get a cast or put into one. They will “buddy tape” it. You can use a scotch tape and tape it to the next toe. This will stabilize it.Do not wear regular shoes until you’re healed. Normally you’d be wearing an “ortho” shoe (it’s ugly as hell) on that foot. But really, a good sandel will do. Regular shoe (dress shoe, tennis shoe) will be too tight (to put on and off).Keep the foot elevated and if this is ‘fresh’ injury, ice it. It will help with swelling. If it’s a few days, heat will help with the bruise. For pain - tylenol / advil will do.We had a patient who dropped a bowling ball on his big toe when he was home (no shoes on). His toe kinda exploded. He needed surgery to repair it.Best wishes.

Did i break a bone in my foot?

about a week ago at football practice, my right foot starting hurting all of a sudden while i was running. i thought it was a simple pinched nerve, so i just kept practicing. when i got home, i soaked it in a bucket with ice and water, but it didnt help.

the pain is on the ball of my right foot, below my little toe and the toe next to it. It also hurts on the top of my foot, in the same place. there is NO swelling of my foot anywhere. there is no bruising, its not red anywhere, and there is no deformity of my foot. it only hurts when i try to put pressure on my right foot. to be more exact, it only hurts when the ball of my foot is pushing down on the ground when i walk. i hope i explained everything as good as possible. if you have any questions about my injury, i'll respond with more information. thanks!!!

(I included 2 pictures of where my foot hurts..)

I dropped something on top of my foot should i go to the doctor?

I dropped a big and heavy shampoo bottle right on the mushy bump diagonal to my ankle on the top of my foot last night. I didn't feel anything pop or nothing it just fell tingly and warm and like i had dropped a shampoo bottle on it. i made a joke like i think i just broke my foot. Before i could look at it it had swollen to about the size of a golf ball. It turned so blue i thought i popped a vein it was very hard and very pain full. I couldn't even put weight on it. I was going to go to the hospital right away because i just new something was wrong. My mother took a look at it and said just put ice on it. So i did. Again very pain full for about 2 hours took some advil and it didn't really hurt the rest of the night. The swelling went from a big golf ball to like a half of a baseball more spread out and the blue turned to like a light purple. This morning i got up and it felt fine. can walk on it doesn't really hurt.its still swollen and bruised. Does anyone know what i could have done and what i should do. i dint have insurance and im not made of money so i dint need any hospital or dr. bills unless i have to and def dint want to pay emergency cost. Please Help!

I dropped something heavy on my foot, swollen and bruised, is it fractured or broken?

I am an RN and may be ale to help. A fracture and a break are pretty much the same thing. I doubt it is a sprain since you said the foot/ankle was not twisted or turned. An x-ray is about the best way to find out. Sounds like you are in alot of pain, so Im betting at least a deep bruise. If it does not improve contact your doctor or go to an ER to have it examined. Hope you feel better soon.

What are the most common ways to break your foot?

Jumping (calcaneus), falling, walking/running too much (stress), dropping something/something falling on the foot, 'spraining' and ankle (can fracture a number of bones), striking and object during swing phase of gait (toe and metatarsals), skydiving (navicular), applying the brake during a motor vehicle accident (talus), falling off a horse with the foot still in stirrup (midfoot), etc. Most often, I see stress fractures, swing strikes, turned ankle associated fractures, dropped object and jump fractures, pretty much in this order.Be careful opening an upper position freezer... Ouch! Soup cans falling from upper cabinets can cause fractures in the same way.

I dropped a hammer on it. Did I break my foot?

I was trying to hang up something on my wall an I put the hammer on top my my dresser. The dresser is a little taller than me an I'm 5'4. The metal part is what dropped on my foot. It's swollen an dive I'm light skin it is red an purple an i cant put any weight on it or touch it cause it hurts really bad. I had on a shoes if it matters (to be specific is was Nike Shox) don't want to go to the hospital an hope it isn't broke because I have my graduation this Sunday which today is Thursday. Does anybody know if serious to the point I have to go to the hospital? I smoke an my parents don't know so I don't want to go I'm 18 but still stay in my parents house.

Dropped something on my big toe and hurts way more than it should. What could I have damaged?

You may have broken your toe bone (1st phalange) but I doubt it. If you are mainly dealing with pain, you likely bruised the root of your toe nail. That is a more common injury. Your toe nail will turn blue and be very sensitive for days to even weeks. You will likely grow a new toe nail under the existing toe nail. In a few months you will start to notice the new toenail.I did this 30 years ago. I dropped a 100 pound piece of 3/8ths plate steel on edge about 12 inches down and across all of my toes. I broke my little toe and the next toe and smashed the big toe nail without breaking it. The big toe nail root was by far more painful than the broken toes.Over the years, I have broken a few toes (phalanges) and a few metatarsals, the bones that connect the toe bones to the foot. The doctors have never done anything but put me in a walking slipper. I usually took it off and put on a strong hiking or work boot instead.
