Did Youtube Get Rid Of Thumbs Up/thumbs Down And The Reply Button To Reply To Other Comments

What does thumbing down YouTube comments do? I always suspect its just for show.

Nothing. There are lots of videos with many thumbs down and lots of negative comments below them.In some cases, you can use ratio of thumbs down vs thumbs up as an indicator of the quality of the video, be that the content or the production values, but even that isn’t always meaningful. There’s an exercise channel I watch regularly and for a while every video uploaded would quickly get around 70 thumbs down. This was regardless of how many thumbs up it got (always many more) and suggested that a certain group of people took the time to give every video a down vote every time just ‘because’.

What does U0001f44d mean? I see it on YouTube comments?

It is a Unicode, meaning it is a standard of representing characters as integers. U0001f44d is the Unicode for a "Thumbs Up" sign.

What is the point of “dislike” button in YouTube comments section?

The comment section on YouTube works like Reddit comments. The up votes and downvotes determine which comments are at the top, with the exception of a pinned comment by the YouTuber themselves.0:00-1:38

Does the dislike button on YouTube comments do anything?

After google plus was integrated into the comment system, disliking a comment no longer has any effect and doesn’t even show up. Back before this, it used to have a sort of effect. In the same way, upvotes and downvotes worked on Reddit, youtube likes and dislikes worked similarly with comments. If you had 200 people like your comment, and then you had 100 people dislike it, it would seem as though only 100 people liked said comment. And if more people disliked it than liked, it would display negatives. This is no longer a thing though. Disliking a comment has no effect other than a client end showing you disliked it and keeping it stored as such. No one else will ever know how many people disliked a comment, or if anyone ever did at all.

Why can I give a thumbs-up to my own comments on sites like YouTube?

If you are giving a comment or a reply to someone and you feel it was amazing, you keep the liking of the commenr or reply to yourself and not pat your back in front of others, if not done in good humour. Similarly, YouTube is a platform where you share your creativity or thoughts while the liking or support is given by the other people. That is why it is called “social” media and not “single-person media”.

How do you view comments you left on Youtube?

Before YouTube did their super makeover last year, there was a cool
feature that actually let you view THE ENTIRE HISTORY OF EVERY
SINGLE VIDEO-COMMENT you ever made.

Not only that, what I call the "View All" superpages also showed you:
-- the full title of every video you ever commented on;
-- direct photo thumbnail links to each of the videos;
-- users' thumbs scores (+/-) of all of your comments;
-- how long ago each comment of yours was posted;
-- the actual text of all your comments in their entirety.

Sadly, YouTube has taken this away, but there might be some good
news: I have organized a very small, clandestine group of YouTubers,
and we're trying to come up with a solution, fix or "work-around".

If you are interested and want to know more (or maybe even become
part of my group and email list), please click my avatar and send me
an email. Better yet, send me a note via my YouTube profile page at

For the time being, if you cannot wait any longer to find a few of your
old video comments and you can remember a little phrase you wrote,
just Google those words inside of "quotation marks". As an example,
to find an old video comment that I wrote in January 2008, I just have
to type "563 tons at takeoff" into Google's searchbox. Check out my
theory by doing the same yourself. Type "563 tons at takeoff" -- then
look for my multi-comments from "1 year ago". You will be surprised.
If you want, click on the link below:

www . google . ca / search ? hl = en & q = %22 563 + tons + at + takeoff %22 & meta=
http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=%225...

Remember to use Google's searchbox, not YouTube's.

Starting today, one thing which you might want to consider is saving
each video that you commented-on as a "browser favorite" (not to be
confused with "YouTube favorite"). On Internet Explorer, all I do is hit
"Alt" followed by the letter "A", and then the "Enter" key.

Does downvoting a comment on YouTube even do anything?

The down-vote or “thumbs down” button is a remnant of the days before Youtubes comment section was linked to Google+.The up-voting is technically now just a +1 on Google+ and since there is no “thumbs down” on Google+ the remnant is a design choice by Google to have a thumbs up and a matching thumbs down.Also while there is currently no way to see down-votes, they are all recorded (As Googles mandate is to collect all available information there is), so therefore may one day be added to the Google+ or Youtube API(Application Programming Interface).As Andrew Meyer stated in his comment from a quote of the Official Youtube Blog.“the rate of dislikes on comments has dropped by more than 35 percent across YouTube.”Full Quote:First off, we’ve improved the ranking system that reduces the visibility of junk comments. It’s working—the rate of dislikes on comments has dropped by more than 35 percent across YouTube. [1]Would show that less people are using it because they see no affect, and therefore have no motive to use it. Which gives bad data as a result. (I myself no longer use the comment down-vote: even tho I know it is stored somewhere as it has no immediate effect).Footnotes[1] Keeping the conversation going

Why do my YouTube comments not appear?

To be able to post a comment on Youtube you have to register and become a member. If you haven't done that, do it, then you will be able to comment on everything. if you are already a member, I really don't know what the problem is.
