Dinged A Car In A Parking Lot

If you accidentally dinged a stranger's car in a parking lot, would you just drive away?

No. I would leave a note. Ironically, I did this, left a note and the person called. Not so much a ding, but chipped paint. They had not seen the ding and while we were on the phone, I directed them to exactly where it was on the car. They started laughing, saying that the ding was so small (true), they would have never noticed it. No problem there. They already had touch up paint. Whew!

Scratched car in parking lot and didn't leave note!?

FIRST OFF, i know what I did was terrible. I was coming out of my parking space at a restaurant and scratched the back bumper of the car next to me. I panicked and didn't leave a note. I was not thinking straight and left. If someone would have gotten my plates, would they have come see my by now? it was yesterday. No one was in the car and there was just a big scratch. Will i be arrested for running? It was my moms car, but im covered under her insurance. I don't want to go to jail. will they come to my house to pick me up? I just got my license :( i'm a good student and never been in trouble before! what do i do??? Should I go to police?

How much will my car insurance go up for dinging a parked car? I can pay $1700 to repair it or go through insurance. Should I report it or not?

Unless you are certain that the other person won't screw you over and file a claim against your policy later, I would suggest simply informing your insurance agent about the matter and determining then if you can avoid being charged a higher rate. The chances of the other driver trying to "cash in"on this accident are high and you'll end up paying a higher premium anyway (or potentially being dropped by your carrier) for something like that. There may also be some issues with the authorities if you don't report an accident and besides the person that you hit might go to the hospital and  stick your insurance company (Read: YOU) with the medical bills. Your agency might ask about the accident and they may drop your own policy if they believe that you are being deceitful. When in doubt...play it straight.

What to do about woman who car dinged my car?

I came out of a store yesterday morning to see that I had a huge ding on my door. The car was still parked next to me. I was very angry, but stuff happens. So I drove over to the body shop to see about fixing it. They gave me an estimate and I headed home. It just so happens when I got off at my exit right next to me was the lady who hit my car. She had her window down so I said to her are you aware you left a dent in my car? She said yes, pulled over gave me her home address and number and said just get me a copy of the estimate, She didnt want to file a claim over a small dent. At about 9:00 pm, she called my home phone and said that after she left work a few mintues ago she noticed she had a dent on her car too and that I should have to pay for her dent. My car never touched her car, and I think she is just trying to get out of paying for my dent. She says my color car paint is on her car, but she had it parked at work all day. Does she have any ground to stand on?

Is it legal to put a car cover over your car in a parking lot?

My understanding of the law in some states is that you have to have your license plate visible. Some covers come with see-through plastic where the license plates are located to facilitate law enforcement seeing the plates. If you don't have that, you will need to hike up your cover so that the plates are visible.
I have never heard they can inspect inside, break into it, etc. That doesn't make sense without probable cause, like hearing someone yelling from the trunk for example.
You could call your local police station and ask as well, just to be sure and that way your friend won't try to keep scaring you with all the things that he thinks could happen heh.
The only downside of a cover is sometimes it attracts vandals to mess with your car because you put on the cover. Depends on the security of the places you park. I personally never drive my nice car to the office because people slam open their doors and bump into it in the parking lot without taking responsibility. One of the doors of one of my cars was totally smashed in by some idiot that couldn't back into a slot. It sucks.

How do you deal with the person who just dented your car on the parking lot and tries to leave?

As others have said, the first thing to do is take pictures. Get his license plate, get a picture of the driver, get a picture of the car, get a picture of the overall scene showing your car parked.Next, call 911 and get the police to arrive as quickly as possible. *IF* the other driver is threatening you, tell them….they will rush to the scene.DON’T put yourself in danger if the other driver starts violence. Your health and well-being is not worth it. Your insurance will pay for damages.DON’T assume his license plate is properly registered.DON’T assume he has insurance.DON’T assume he has a driver’s license.→ These may be reasons he wants to leave.DON’T assume he gives you valid identification.→ Thanks to “Real Id” and the federal regulations that prevent illegal aliens from getting a drivers license and insurance, many are forced to drive without them. That is why most states fought these regulations, because they know illegal aliens are not gong to walk home to starve - they are simply going to drive illegally and evade the police in situations like this.→ At the other end of the spectrum, when I was living in the DC area, the problem was foreign diplomats. They are exempt from US law and would often drive off with no way to stop them. *Usually* the embassy would pay damages as a courtesy if there was proof that one of their staff did the damage. The driver MAY offer to pay for the damages out of pocket. THis would certainly make things easy, BUT you have no way of knowing how much the damage wll really cost. And unless they hand you a bundle of cash on the spot, your chance of collecting is small to none.

What is the best way to stop other cars from dinging your car when parking outdoors?

Yes, I really do hate it. I look after my cars as I tend to keep them a long while and look after them.Stephen Morgan's answer to When is it time for a new car?I have tried a few things, plastic strips and a couple of other measures but in the end I manage to avoid ‘parking dings’ by being a bit careful where I park.Supermarkets are usually the worst so I park well away from other cars at the far end of the lot.In town I usually take my SUV which has plastic panels well up the doors and seems to be immune from dings. Plus a big tow bar on the rear which protects that end and a big protruding panel with the licence plate on at the front which is easily replaced. If we are going somewhere a bit rough I have my old Peugeot which has a lot of dings all over so a few more are going to be fine and due to its color they are not very noticeable.People generally do not look after their cars, not sure why as they are expensive to purchase and are important for your mobility.

Someone scratched my car at my apartment parking lot?

Someone accidentally scratched my car at my apartment, he left a note on my window but later i found out that it was a fake telephone number, so now i have no hope of finding that person. Each parking lot in my apartment only belong to specific resident, other people are not allowed to park their car on these parking lot. I can't report this to my insurance because it is under $1000, but i don't see any reason that i should pay it. I just brought this car for a couple month, so i must fix it.
Perhaps i can't find that person, do you think the apartment should be responsible?
