Reading and understanding my Grandfathers Honorable Discharge papers from WWII?
Hoping someone can clarify the following listed on my grandfathers Honorable discharge papers: 1. In the 'Component " box it has AUS 2. His military occupation is listed as a "Rifleman 745" 3. In the Military Qualifications and Date Box."COMBAT IB SO 209 24DEC44" 4. In the "Battles and Campaigns" box it has CENTRAL EUROPE RHINELAND GO 33 WD 45 AS AMENDED 5. In the "Remarks" box It has LAPEL BUTTON ISSUED and ASR SCORE 2 SEP 45 72 According to my father, while my grandfather was in the hospital being treated for wounds suffered when a shell exploded in front of him,his commanding officer told him he would receive a Purple Heart for the wounds he sustained, yet he never received the award, nor was it in the "Decorations and Citations" and "Wounds received in action" boxes on his discharge papers. His scars were apparent from the wounds and knowing my grandfather he didn't care about getting a medal,but I was just wondering if this was common during the war? Finally, I know he was with the 378th Infantry, company F. Does anyone know of any books or publications that document this group throughout the war? Thanks so much for any info.

My son won't join the military, what can I do?
I belong to a military family. I've been an Army official for more than 30 years. My brother is in the Navy, our father and grandfather were in the military too. My brother and sister's sons joined the Navy and the Air Force. It's a tradition in our family. I have a son and a daughter. Neither will join the military. As for the girl, that's OK, but myy son not joining the military is like a betrayal. He's in college, graduating, belive or not, in mathematics. Instead of doing something useful, he decided to do math just because he likes and is good at it. He's doing great, but I've told him one million times that, even in the civil world, he has no future being a mathematician. He'll starve. I did everything I could to get him into the military but didn't succeed. My wife didn't support me, she says she should do what he wants. He lives thousands of miles away. When he comes home, to me it's a reason for sadness and even anger and to his mom it's a glory. She's proud of him. But how can an Army official be proud of a mathematician? When I meet my family, I feel ashamed. What can I do? .
I need help finding some info for my family tree!?
I asked about my grandpa earlier (Robert William McParland) born feb 25, 1932 to find his parents. I found out that his father's name is Joe McParland and his mom's name is Agnes without a last name. I don't have dates or anything. I also found out that he had 4 other siblings but no dates to be able to look them up. How do illegal aliens help the economy?
I don't see it. My grandfather came to Texas from Mexico (Jalisco) but he came here legally and served in the US military and went to Vietnam. My grandfather earned his citizenship while these invaders have taken our wealth away. Some of these illegals get citizenship by doing nothing and smooching off the American people. How does bring more crime, more unemployment, more DUIs, more taxes and lower standard of living help our country?
