Do I Really Need Internet Security

Do I really need McAfee securitycenter on my computer?

No. There are a number of free anti-virus and malware options available, including AVG, Avast!, Avira-Anti-Vir, and Comodo Anti-Virus for anti-virus products.

For malware checking the old standbys of Ad-Aware and Spybot are still great choices. Comodo also has some free anti-malware tools.

Generally I don't like the big fat suites that promise everything. Go with best-in-breed and what works best for you in combination.

In terms of firewalls, you have choices including the built-in Windows firewall (free, easy, not that great), Comodo (a good choice), and Zone Alarm (free) which is OK, or Zone Alarm Pro (paid) which is the most highly rated personal firewall.

Take a look at the Microsoft Security Site for some other useful information: http://www.microsoft.com/protect/default...

Why is internet security necessary?

Would you allow an unknown third party to avail benefits on your investment? ORImagine, you are sharing a delicious chips packet with your friend and a bully stamps its name on it without our authority. ORYou invited a friend for a party but address info was changed by a middle man and your friend is misled to some other destination. ORYou end up throwing party to a third party for unknown but genuine reasons. I won't be impressed with such events in real life.In same manner, in field of Internet, I wouldn't appreciate someone writing answers to questions on Motivation, Lifestyle, Relationships etc. using my account where I personally prefer technical by my choice. :)And such scenario takes place only if my private information such as Quora credentials are compromised/hacked.Now, try to relate all possible actions over Internet with mentioned examples, you'll have an answer on “Why Internet Security is necessary?”

Do I need all these security software?

Currently, I have telus security services, and windows defender. My windows defender takes up an enormous amount of CPU and I was wondering if I really need both of them.

Also, does anyone know a free, trustworthy anti-virus that can be downloaded off the internet?

Do I really need Norton Internet Security?

My Norton Internet Security 2007's subscription (expires in 30 days) is up for renewal. I have used Norton for over five years, before that I had McAffee. Earlier this year, I got a trojan on my system WHILE NORTON WAS RUNNING 24/7 IN THE BACKGROUND. When I spoke to their tech support about removing it, they informed me I would have to pay a Sr. technician $100 or more to remove it. Needless to say, I was outraged, so I searched online and found MaxSecure's Spyware Detector. I think the price was $29/$39. I installed it and it removed the trojan completely in less than 10 minutes! Since then it has been keeping my system clean. I kept Norton running as well, however. At this point, I'm wondering if I even need Norton Internet Security, the upgrade subscription or their latest product . Techies out there, what do you think? Thanks loads.

Do Android phones need antivirus or internet security apps?

Before answering your question, you must understand the basic architecture of the Android operating system. Viruses are the consequences of vulnerability of the system to protect itself from any external programs that work maliciously without the knowledge of user and/or system. Here is the basic architecture diagram of the Android:You will notice that all the programs are installed in userland area (uppermost layer) below which application framework is there.Fundamentally all Linux based distributions are immune to any viruses. Android has no exception. Android is just yet another Linux based mobile operating system. So, the answer to your question is NO! Android phones need not any antivirus. But that doesn’t mean that Android is safe from Malwares & Viruses, just the mechanism & propagation (spreading) of the intrusion of the Virus or any Malware is different than that of Windows.Viruses & Malwares come from user installed programs. They can not spread automatically like Windows Viruses. Here, end user is culprit, who confers user rights to such programs that may infect userland area of the applications.Precautions to be taken while installing any App from the store or USB:Don’t trust any application from Play store blindly. Please verify the developer of the app & it’s reputation. e.g. see image:Before installations, please check permission asked by the app. In any case if you feel this app may cause damage, malfunction and any other suspicious permission, do not install that app.(This app seeks permission to retrieve running apps & read sensitive log data. Do not install such applications.) By conferring such permissions you allow that malicious application to take your phone’s control, and you feel that your phone has been infected with the virus.DO NOT INSTALL ANY POPULAR ANTI-VIRUS (OFTEN FOUND AD ON TV) ON YOUR PHONE. SUCH ANTI-VIRUS GENERATES FAKE VIRUS REPORT AND CONVINCE USER THAT HOW IT WORKS PERFECTLY AND HOW WISE YOU ARE THAT YOU CHOSE TO INSTALL THIS ANTI-VIRUS.Also do not install such apps which displays malicious ads which tells that your phone has been infected and install so and so anti-virus. Do no trust on such ads and simple do not install such apps which shows such ads.

Is it safe to run spybot with norton internet security ?

Sure..

I have "SpyBot Search & Destroy" along with the one I'm using, which is AVG Intenet Security.

No conflict there, but not a good idea to have more than One antivirus program running at the same time. Spybot removes malware and adware, and all the nasties, so it's not an anti-virus program...

And you can (and should actually) download more than one virus-remover.
Another good one is SuperAnti-Spyware .com
It's a good idea to have more than one scanner on your computer.. and do a couple.
Remember to do them In 'safe mode'...
:-)

Do we need to install any security app in an Android phone?

You don't need to install ANY security app in your android, because frankly speaking, they do NOTHING to secure you.If you are smart enough to use Android in a smart way, you do not need security apps. The most important way of being smart isNOT INSTALLING apps from any sources other than Google play store.NOT ROOTING your phone as it exposes your device to many vulnerabilities.Anything that can harm your device essentially has to be in apk form, and by not installing unknown apks, you are at almost 0 risk.On other hand, security apps may do more bad than good to your device like :Drain battery by continuously running services in background.Access data on your device as it has all the needed permissions to do.Track your location.Create a hole in your pocket by nagging you to buy premium services.Android is capable enough to protect the user (and the security is improving day by day), but the user should also be smart enough to know these facts.EDIT : To support my above statement, here's a product recently launched by Google for Android devices : Google Play Protect
