Do Opticals Only Offer Disposable Contact Lenses

Contact lenses - do you ever sleep with them?

It depends on the lenses you choose to use, and none are "best" it's just what suits you.

Your optician will explain EVERYTHING to you, so you need not bother reading this xD

Daily disposables - I have them. I use 1-day Acuvue moist, they are the best brand, I tried another and they dried out really fast.

If they fall out you can't put them back in, but my friends do it. I tried it but it stuck to itself too fast. They don't fall out usually, I was tugging my eye.

You CANNOT sleep in these. This is no problem for me, I don't nap, I shouldn't think half an hour napping would hurt but if you sleep in these for a long time they dry up and stick to your eyelid.

Don't get them wet because they appear to dry up and fall out, or stick to your eye, BUT I went swimming today and have showered with them loads of times; they were fine.

Good points - you just chuck them in in the morning and then bin them at night, no fuss.
Bad points - Expensive, mine are roughly £32-34 a month
If you can afford them I seriously recommend them.

Those are soft contacts, some opticians still do hard contacts, my mother has these. You have to store them in solution when you're not using them, and buy this solution constantly, and a container when the old one is manky.
They seem to fall out easily and they are your only pair.
They're cheap, buy them once and you won't need another pair for a long time, my mother has had hers for 20 odd years...
You can leave them in to nap for hours on end. I should know. My mother sleeps. A LOT.

The main difference is that hard contacts are semi-permeable, meaning they let oxygen through, and your eyes need oxygen. That's why you can leave them in for ages and your eyes stay healthy. Soft contacts are recommended to be taken out an hour before sleep, otherwise your eyes can't breathe and they look ugly and unhealthy.

Hope this helped. Not too sure on other contact types, sorry for the spammage =D

Where can I buy contact lenses?

You can buy contact lenses online if you have got prescription card. And if you don’t have prescription card then you may visit an optical store, get your eyes tested then buy from there. For online purchase, prescription contains only the spectacle power. For spherical power above 4, the contact lens power will be less than the spectacle power and for spherical powers below 4, the spectacle and contact lens power will be the same.If you cylindrical power then buy toric lenses. You can use this app to calculate your contact lens power from the spectacle power. App name is Contact lens vertexing.

OPTICAL CONTACT LENS QUESTION FOR FOOTPRINTZ?

When the CYL in the glasses reaches - 1.75 , I have always found it better to drop a full 0.50 from it for the contacts.

Besides, there is no 1.50 cyl in the Biofinity Torics I suggested he try on you. The only Toric with a 1.50 CYL was the Focus Toric, which wasn't a very good lens as far as torics go. They are discontinued now anyway. All other brands go 0.75, 1.25, 1.75 ,( 2.25 in some )

The left eye is trickier and just MAY be better leaving the sphere at - 3.75 , but I place my bet more on - 3.50

He should be ordering trials anyway , so getting 3 of them isn't harder than getting 2 , so I still stick by

OD - 3.50 - 1.25 X 160
OS - 3.50 - 1.25 X 180

Plus another left trial lens of - 3.75 - 1.25 X 180

Good luck

Contact lense fitting at Walmart eye center?

A contact lens fitting is the same at almost any place you go.

First of all, a contact lens exam is an eyeglass exam plus a contact lens fitting. If you want just the fitting portion done at Walmart, you will have to bring in a very recent eyeglass prescription and the doctor at Walmart will just do the fitting. You will want to check with the optical regarding their policy on how old the prescription can be and make sure you get a price quote on an "outside fit" since this tends to be more.

A contact fitting involves more than just looking at numbers. First several measurements will be taken. You will need to read the eye chart, so bring your most recent glasses. Next, the eye glass prescription is usually verified by a very abbreviated "which is better" test. The curvature of the cornea is measured with a keratometer. The front of the eye will be viewed with a biomicroscope.

Once that is done, a discussion of what kind of lenses should be made. There are some price considerations, so parents usually want to get involved with this part. If you have never had contacts, an arrangement will be made for a person to learn how to insert and remove the contacts. This is usually called an I&R. Usually the staff does this, but it may need to be scheduled for a different day, especially if the trial lenses need ordering.

After you can properly insert and remove the lenses, you will be given about 1 week to practice at home. At that point, you should return with the contact lenses in (if no significant problems) for a "contact recheck". At that visit, your vision will be tested and the "ride" of the lenses will be assessed. If all looks good, a final contact lens prescription is written and you will be able to order your lenses. If the lenses are not acceptable, different lenses will need to be trialed and a new recheck will need to be scheduled.

How long do contact lenses last?

It depends greatly on the type of contact lens.  There are lenses meant to be thrown away daily, lenses that are 2 week or 4 week disposables, lenses that are meant to be cleaned and stored for up to a year.  The type that are disposables are not meant to be stored indefinitely- so even if you only wear them twice in a month, you should be throwing them away at the end of the month.  Waste of money.  Ditto for the type that you must clean and maintain- they have a finite lifespan no matter how seldom you wear them in that period.  Plus, you don't sound like you'd be interested in properly cleaning and caring for that sort.I would recommend that you look into dailies- that way you aren't risking infection or degradation of the lens by storing it and only wearing it sporadically.  I wear my contacts only about 3 days a week, depending on the season.  Thus, I have a few 90-packs of dailies- this means I can put one pair in the day I want to wear them, throw them out that evening, and get a fresh pair next time.  It's the healthiest, safest option if you aren't going to wear them consistently. It is also a bit more expensive (though a smaller supply will last longer), but I wouldn't risk the other options.  Your vision is too important to risk on "cheap".  I can't tell you how many awful infections and conditions I saw while working in an optical office in college, from improper contact lens use.  Too many people think contacts are some sort of fashion accessory, when they are a medical device that can cause serious vision issues if not cared for properly.

Contact lenses... are they worth it?

Okay. I have myopia and I'm sick tired of my eyeglasses. Do you guys recomend contact lenses? I live in Mesa AZ, is there a optical store around here where I can get good lenses and also a good price? Let me know!

Can you wear two brands of contact lenses?

Depends if that " other brand" fits you and works for you, and the only way to know is to get trial lenses and try them.

Your eyes don't care what the brand is in each eye as long as they fit right .

" I'm on a scheme with my opticians that really works for me but it's quite expensive and I only get a few pairs of contact lenses a month " sounds very strange...how many do you need ?

EDIT*****

It's still very confusing...contacts that you get 10 pairs a month...never heard of such a thing. I presume you are wearing daily disposables, but they come in boxes of 30 , which is 15 pair or 90 which is 45 pairs...how do you end up with 10 pairs ?

Buying them in the 90 pack is a LOT cheaper than getting boxes of 30 you know.

I was hoping you would say what brand you are wearing to try and make some sense of this...but you didn't.

Having to buy extras to get through the month makes no sense. Many people wear 2 different brands for different reasons. That makes no difference as long as they both fit right.

Why do my contact lenses keep ripping?

Contact your doctor, I believe 1-800-Contacts offers free replacement of ripped lenses maybe you should look into it and suggest to your doctor about ordering from another source. Maybe that particular lens is not durable enough for your eyes (contacts are made of different types of plastics some are more or less durable than others) when I used normal traditional contacts that last a few months they normally ripped after 2 or 3 months if I didn't loose them first, and I would call my doctor and ask for replacements. Due to constantly loosing my contacts, and the uncomfortability of longer wear lenses I asked my doctor to switch to once a month lenses and they feel like they are made of thinner material, I also wear daily lenses on certain occasions and they feel even thinner than the ones I wear for a month.
