Do Transfer Students Receive Their Acceptance Letter In The Mail From Ucla

Students who got accepted into UCLA or Berkeley with a low GPA and not so good SAT scores, how did u get in?

Sometimes students are accepted into college on a conditional basis. Usually if while in high school they faced certain challenges that made it difficult for the student to succeed. For me, it was a Mother who was very ill and two little brothers who I had to babysit. My GPA was very low, and my Dad refused to pay for the SAT. I had very little hope of ever going to school after high school. I eventually went to a state school (which was also a community college) who accepted me conditional, I did very well as a part time student who worked full-time and still helped with the care of my brothers. Eventually I went to a University and graduated with honorable mention. Thank God someone gave me a second chance.

***Comment: So what is wrong with a community college? It is a cheap way to earn elective credit and to get basic courses out of the way. Plus, you can use it to show the universities who rejected you that they made a big mistake. Also, just because you start at a community college does not mean you have to finish there.
At the one I went to, you could earn a respectable degree from either Indiana u or Purdue. Purdue is a very respectable institution. Also since there was a top college in the area, some of the professors who taught at a top 15 school (in the world) were also working at the community college for extra money. So you can get a top dollar education at a community college. Plus, you can use the time in a community college to boost your GPA. Work hard to get the 4.0 and get involved and other colleges with fight for you. Which could lead to scholarships and grants. It also looks great when you can put on a resume that you worked full-time while you attended school part-time and earned a 4.0 while participating in campus activities.

What does your college acceptance or rejection letter looks like?

A2A. Here is the letter that changed my life:The letter had animated fireworks! The decision came out at 1am (Turkish time) and I remember being unable to sleep and looking through the Dartmouth Coop website.I was extremely relieved once I saw my financial aid statement, which probably was the main contributor to my sleeplessness! :)

UCLA accepted me, but i can't go, what if I reapply again next semester?

According to UCLA:

Q: Does UCLA allow students to defer to a subsequent term?

A: Not often, but students may request, in writing, a deferment to another term of entry if they have significant extenuating circumstances, such as active military duty.

I suggest you try deferring your acceptance first. If UCLA declines your request, then go with reapplying. You have to wait until next year to apply, unless your intended major is in the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science, then you may apply during the Winter or Spring terms. For application deadelines in the Winter and Spring quarters, see: http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/applying.htm

It's unlikely that your current acceptance will affect your chances of future acceptance.

When do UCs usually send acceptance letters?

I have an archive of the decision dates from last year for freshmen here and for transfers here.

Rejected by UCLA, any chance at UC Berkeley?

So far...
Rejected: UCLA (Engineering)
Accepted: OSU, UT Austin Cockrell School of Engineering, UC San Diego Engineering

I applied to the College of Letters and Science at Berkeley:

ACT: 32
SAT II: Math II - 780
GPA: 3.95 (unweighted) UC is probably around 4.2 - 4.3 (mostly weighted classes)
IB Tests: Physics SL - 6 (out of 7)
Courses: Took predominantly IB courses, senior year 100% IB

EC:
- several clubs (NHS, MUN, Key Club, Spanish Honors Society, etc.)
- paid software intern at Intel Corp. (Java coding, research, etc. -- work 10-15 hrs per week)
- freelance graphic designer (people hired me to design logos, fonts, etc.)
- worked with the Portland Haitian Foundation after the earthquake
- volunteer at library
- assisted the teacher of a Spanish class, helping out students with assignments, projects, etc.
- several regional/state art awards for graphic design, poster design, etc. (i.e. from Scholastic)

Essays: Thought they were pretty damn good, related to software (aspiring field of choice) and art (which I received several awards in)

Overall: Strong emphasis on art, software

Not to sound entitled but after comparison with a couple of my peers, I'm shocked at the type of people who were accepted -- ie, those who skipped class, had 3.5 GPAs, really terrible essays (I read them) and applied to the same major I did.

Truth be told, I wouldn't have gone to LA even if I were to have gotten accepted. But now, I feel that my rejection there is somehow indicative of the admission decision from Cal, which is my dream school. To say the least, I'm thoroughly disappointed with the admissions process.
Any chance left for me at Berkeley?

Thanks in advance.

If I'm not accepted into UCLA's Nursing school, do I still have a shot at getting into UCLA?

In the UC application, they asked for an intended major and recommended you to choose a second major just in case.

They will either accept you or reject you. They take your two intended majors you chose in the application when making a decision. They might accept you to your other major.

Ex. For my application, My intended major was Economics. My 2nd choice was Business Economics.
If they don't want me in Economics, they will look at my 2nd choice. If they don't want me there either, then they have rejected me altogether.

It will just depend on the majors you put down. Alot of majors are difficult to get into since they're impacted. They only accept the top students. Since Nursing is somewhat of an impacted major
(most medical majors are), they will only accept the top students that apply for that major. If they reject you from that major but think you're a good overall student, they will consider your second intended major (ex. psychology). If that is also impacted, they might not put you in there either.

MOST of the time, they will only look at your intended major. They will only look at your second choice major if they think you're a good candidate. Only then can you get accepted to UCLA into a major that wasn't your first choice. Since they only give you 2 options in the application, if you get rejected from both majors, they don't ask you what else you might want to major in. They just reject you right then and there.

A little confusing the way I worded things, but I did it quick.

hoping for UCLA, but I'm most likely going to end up at UCSD for economics. Good Luck.
