Is it true that the ancestors of Turkish people were from China?
The Turks are of Turkic origin. Turkic people are indigineous to mostly the same areas they currently occupy in Central Asia, including Xinjiang province of the People's Republic of China. Xinjiang, also known as Sinkiang or East Turkestan, is home to the Ughyr Turkic tribe. Turks of the modern Republic of Turkey migrated to Asia Minor from Central Asia during the time of the Mongol Empire, when Turkic peoples were considered equals to Mongols. The difference is that Turkic tribes converted to Islam from trading with the Arabs and other Muslim tribes while Mongols maintained their own traditional belief system.
Why is Turkey silent about the plight of Turkic people in Xinjiang?
Well, Turkey was more vocal about that. However, the government doesn’t want Turkish newspapers to discuss it in a major way like they used to in the past because Turkey has major trade relations with China. China has the 2nd largest economy in the world.Turkey doesn’t have any power over China or any political cards to play to help the Uighurs. If Europe for example abuses Turks, which it is not, Turkey could have some influence because of trade relations and Turkey’s strategic importance to Europe. Turkey is not so important to China in the end. So, in the end, it boils down to Turkey needing the business with China and not having any political cards that it can use to demand that the Uighurs be treated better. Ordinary citizens are protesting against that kind of thing in Turkey, but the government has kept a lower profile. I believe China expects it from Turkey, and saying no to China when you have limited cards when dealing with them is not easy.I, for one, am very concerned with the reports I have heard in the past about Turkic Muslims and Tibetan Buddhists or Christians in China. I want anyone whether they are Muslims, Buddhists, Christians, or atheists in China to feel free to be equal citizens of their country.
What are the physical characteristics that differentiate Chinese ethnic minorities?
My brother and sister are both adopted from China, so we know very little about their background. As a pet project I've been trying to find out which ethnic group they come from.
