Do You Have To Eat In Mess Hall To Use Bas Allowance

Does the military give me a monthly food allowance?

no. if residing in the Barracks you get a meal card. No BAS unless certain criteria are met:

usually this means your duty schedule does not allow for you to eat meals during the hours the chow hall is open.

they provide meals. they don't care if you choose to not eat them.

Question about BAS allowance in military?

as an E-3 you receive about, 1700$ + BAS ?
how do you get BAS, is it only for married or single as well?
or do they take out BAS from your paycheck so you can go to the chow hall? so 1700 - BAS ?

can someone explain how BAS works and how do you obtain it, and does it go in your pay check additionally?

Will I get housing and food allowance while my husband is at basic training?

No the military does not issue a paycheck to the spouse of a person in the military while they are at Basic or anytime else (Unless they are killed in which that does happen).

The Food Allowance - BAS - is for the ACTIVE DUTY member it is NOT to feed the family. During Basic he does not get it as his meals are provided for him there. During AIT he will have it in the pay but then it is deducted for he uses the Mess. Only when he has accompanied orders can he get it but it can just as easily be taken away if they are doing something where the Army is providing his meals again

Housing - BAH - is paid to the ACTIVE DUTY member in his/her pay on the 15th & 1st of each month. Newbies will not see it in their first pay, for it can take up to 45 days to be included. It will be backdated to the eligible date. While in Basic it is based on the location he joined at after that it will vary. If he is on accompanied orders it is based on the base/posts location zip code. If it is unaccompanied orders it is based on the zip code of the dependents. During AIT unaccompanied it remains the same. If he gets unaccompanied orders it remains the same unless they authorize a movement of the dependents.

HE gets his pay and has it going into an account HE sets up to have it put into. It could be a joint account that you have access to or it could be his own personal account.

Will the military pay for my meals?

i am currently in the DEP for the Air Force, ship out date Aug 14, and i just talked to my friend who completed bmt pretty recently and is now in tech school. He tells me you have to pay for your own food and there is no meal card that they provide you. This is the exact opposite from what the AF website says
http://airforce.com/benefits/food-housing/

they say you can get free meal account that lets you eat for free.
Just wondering if the AF website lies, or if it depends on the base your shipped to whether or not you get free meals...

How do i get rid of my meal card?

I've been in the army for 3 years and all of you that have been in the military know the chow hall is garbage food. I prepare all of my food in my barracks room. I'm getting ready to leave the barracks as get an apartment. I have done the research and know that I am getting $300 deducted from my BAS. I have ate at the chow hall 3 times in the past 2 months and refuse to eat there based on the quality or food, how it's prepared etc. So does anyone know how iof any form I can fill out to revoke my meal card. Any information is appreciated. Thank you.

A question about Army BAS ?

Im in AIT & I'm now receiving BAS of $348 a month . On my LES under "Deductions" it's Meal Deduction: $297
So my question is: Out of the $348 for BAS, the Army took out $297 (because I eat at the Chow Hall) ?
My next question is: What if when I get 2 my duty station (Fort Hood) I decide not 2 eat at the DFAC .... Do I then keep the whole $348 they entitled me 2 ?
