Do You Think Being A Teacher Is A Good Job

Is being a teacher a good paying job?

the pay is fine but its not enough unless you love teaching. Teaching is an awful job, in the sense that a job is a means to make money, teaching is a calling and you have to love it. if you want to be a teacher cause you think you know what its all about and you want the summers off STOP NOW because you will hate it and more importantly you will be a bad teacher. Form experience teaching is not easy and you don't get summers off, you are constantly taking more classes or serving on committees. Shadow a teacher and see what their job is really like, just because you've been in a classroom does not mean you know what being a teacher entails.

Is teaching a good career ?

Teaching has good job security and can pay pretty well. Plus, if you enjoy teaching and working with kid/teenagers, then you may love it as a career.

Saying this, though, teaching can be VERY stressful. It's not a simple case of walking into a classroom and talking a bit. You will have to mark a lot of work, create lesson plans/resources, and possibly be under great pressure to get good exam results out of your classes.

How much you're paid depends on where you work. Some teachers are on very modest salaries, while others can go on to earn a LOT, especially at private schools where wealthy people send their kids.

Is an elementary school teacher a good job?

People who go in to teaching know that they're not going to make a ton of money. There are other jobs you could get with a college degree that would pay more. Where I live, first year teachers make between 28,000 and 32,000 a year. I don't think it's that bad, but some people would not be happy making that salary. Most school districts have a "salary schedule" system - this means that you are guaranteed a raise every year that you work (usually around 1,000). There are also different "steps," so if you take classes and work towards your masters, that will bump you up and you will earn more per year.

It is hard to find a job, especially for elementary teachers. There are several things you can do to make it easier: get certified in early childhood (this will allow you to teach at the preschool level), get certified in middle school (these teachers are more specialized - english/math/science/etc - and are in higher demand), get certified in special education, be willing to move to a different area or even a different state, be willing to work in a city school or a charter school (these schools always need more teachers, but can be more challenging to work in), build connections within school districts by subbing or becoming a teacher's assistant while you are still in college.

If you think this is what you want to do, I suggest you go to your local elementary school and ask if they need any volunteers or tutors. This way you will get to spend some time in the classroom working with kids and see if you like it. If you really want to be a teacher, don't let anyone change your mind! You can do it!
