My Dodge Neon is squealing loudly?

We bought a used 2005 Dodge Neon SXT on Feb. 9th, so we have had it for about a month with no troubles. Well, just recently, it started having a loud squeal [towards the front of the car, under the hood?], usually when I first start the car or when the heat is on. I am concerned and trying to convince my parents we need to have it looked at. [We have a warranty so taking it in to get it fixed will only cost a mere $50, and I'm willing to pay!] My mom refuses and thinks we should wait, but I feel thats the wrong thing to do. Should I be concerned and get it checked out? My dad has looked at the car and all, but doesn't see anything wrong with it. Anyone have any suggestions? They'd be helpful and I'm willing to hand out 10 points for BEST ANSWER!

Dodge Neon Stuck on first Gear. Please Help?

My 2004 dodge Neon automatic transmission won't shift past 1st gear. It's like I put it on drive and its always accelerated the odometer goes crazy and when I turn the car of for a day the battery dies. I changed the speed sensors. In and out . PLEASE HELP!!

Why won't my dodge neon shift gears/?

Anytime an electrical problem happens the "D" or "N" shift indicator light flashes and the vehicle goes into fail safe mode. When this happens you only have 3rd and reverse gears. You need to have the car scanned at the dealer to find the fault code. Auto store OBD II code readers will not work for this. A couple of common things that set the fail safe mode are bad input or output speed sensors or shift solenoids. This time of year I've seen mice chew wiring harnesses so if you see seed or nut shells on top of your motor or transmission you can inspect the wiring harness yourself for chew marks and broken wiring. If no wiring damage you can't guess so time to go get it scanned.

2000 Dodge Neon shifts to neutral?

check the throttle valve cable on it if its binding any way it will cause this to happen, you have to gain clearance to it so you can see it clearly then check to make sure that it moves when the pedal is mashed down and returns back to where it was, with it jumping in to neutral like that i would suspect that the main shift cable is out of adjustment also, check that to make sure when its in gear its actually free, with no tension on it,if it is not that will cause it to jump out of gear also,it sounds like its already been worked on and someone didn't get it back in right, good luck with it.

What are reasons your steering wheel won't lock?

I assume that you are referring to your steering wheel not locking in position after you stop the vehicle and take out the key? There are several possible reasons for this.1. The cog that fits into the detent on the steering column is broken and needs to be replaced.2. The detent on the steering column is worn or broken3. You have not turned the wheel far enough for the cog to find a detent. Pull the wheel first to the left, and then to the right to find the spot.4. The actuator from the solenoid to the cog is broken. To repair this will require the cover on the steering column to be removed, and probably need to have the steering wheel removed as well. Take it to a qualified shop or dealer for this. Incorrect actions could result in damage to the parts, or even the deployment of the air bag on the steering wheel. The exact disassembly required will differ for each manufacturer and possible model of vehicle. If you have a Chilton's manual for your vehicle, you can look up the repair to see what is involve.

2002 Dodge Neon - Speedometer/Odometer not functioning, limp mode?

The check engine light came on, and the car wasn't upshifting out of first gear. I also noticed that the speedometer isn't working at all, and neither is the odometer (the odometer displays digitally, but it's not incrementing as the car moves). When the car is stationary, the gas gauge bounces up and down a bit.

Following the reccomendations of others, I had it scanned for codes:
P0700 - Transmission code
P0500 - Speed sensor malfunction

I purchased both a new input speed sensor and output speed sensor for the car. I took the car to my local mechanic, and he replaced both sensors, and the problem persists. He then checked the transmission cable which runs under the radiator, and after a couple hours of repairing wires in that bundle, was still unable to fix the problem. My mechanic sent me home with the car, and the problem still exists.

Any guesses? Am I looking at a costly repair?

3rd and 1st gear? what does it mean!?

3 and 1 usually considered as sport shifting, allows you the ability to manually shift between gears, and riding it to red line, whenever a quick start from a red light to pass a car is needed those are the gears to use for maximum accelerating performance,,but driving in D an letting the transmission do all the shifting work is usually the best idea, since it keeps your car from ever having the possibility of any unnecessary over revving hope this gives you some idea

Why do cars sometimes have the 3rd gear next to the "Drive" D gear? Why aren't the gears in order?

The shift lever on automatic transmissions generally works by limiting the maximum gear number that the transmission controller is allowed to automatically select. For many years, and in many cars still today, automatic transmissions had 4 gear ratios to select from. The “D” selection allows it to automatically range through all 4 ratios, which is fine for normal driving conditions; dropping it into “3” limits it to only the 3 lower ranges. Some cars have separate selections for “2” and “1”, or may have an “L” selection that encompasses both. So, putting “3” next to “D” does put the gears in order, with increasing restriction as you get further away from the “Park” end.

Why does the steering wheel lock up while driving?

What Causes the Steering Wheel to Lock Up? | eHow Losing control of your car's steering is a terrifying experience, one that can lead to a crash with horrific consequences. If this happens to you, then you must try to bring your vehicle to a stop at once and determine the cause of steering wheel lock-up before you drive your car again. There are a number of reasons why your car's steering has suddenly locked up including:Key MechanismNot every steering wheel problem occurs when you have the transmission engaged and are heading down the road. Sometimes, drivers report that their steering wheel stays locked even after inserting the key into the ignition. When that happens, the car probably cannot be started let alone driven. More than likely the key assembly has worn out and needs to be replaced. However, before calling your auto mechanic, try to move the wheels to the left and to the right as sometimes the steering column "catches," a problem that can be resolved if you jiggle the wheel.Lock PinGeneral Motors issued a pair of recalls for the C5 Chevrolet Corvette (1997-2004 models) due to problems with locked steering. In addition to being locked while starting, owners complained that in some cases their cars could be driven but with no control of steering. This problem is due to a lock pin that fails to withdraw fully, allowing contact between the pin and lock plate. Visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA ) website (see Resources) for information about recalls #04006B and #04006C or call your Chevrolet dealer.ConclusionWhile the three causes mentioned here are among the top reasons why a steering wheel may lock up, there could be other reasons. Contact an auto mechanic for assistance, or if you are handy with repairs, consult a Haynes or Chilton repair manual (or anything similar) for guidance.
