Does Anyone Remember Such Cold August Weather In The Uk

Can cold weather kill a car battery?

Most car/truck batteries will/should have an open circuit voltage of 12.6 volts. If your battery discharges over a period of time, which can happen with a simple parasitic draw (such as a on board CPU) or possibly leaving a interior light on, this will cause the battery to discharge.

When a battery is fully charged it has a specific gravity of 1260 (this is the measurement of sulfuric acid) this measurement can be checked with a hydrometer, when the battery discharges the sulfuric acid goes through a chemical reaction and becomes more like water and would measure a specific gravity of 1000.

If water freezes at 32 degrees F and you battery was completely discharged, then it is fair to say that your battery froze solid like a ice cube.

Once this happens, the battery is 99% unrecoverable. Your trickel charger would be useless on the battery.

When you replace your battery, you should have your charging system checked out. This can be done at any Auto Parts store or a local Walmart free a charge.

In the future, if you plan to leave the vehicle longer than 4 weeks, you should disconnect the negitive cable from your battery. This will eleminate any paristic draw down.

How is the weather in Langawi Malaysia in August?

It's generally fair but humid. The country is generally warm throughout the year with temperatures ranging from 21° to 32° Celsius in the lowlands. This can however be as low as 16° Celsius in the highlands. Annual rainfall is heavy at 2,500mm (100 inches). On a rainy day, thunder and lightning often accompany the heavy downpour which normally lasts for about an hour or two. The high humidity level at 80% throughout the year favours light and sweat-absorbent material like cotton for daily dressing.

Generally, Malaysia has two distinct seasons. The dry season occurs during the south-west monsoon from May and September. The northeast monsoon brings the rainy season to the country during mid-November till March.

The best is to check 1 week prior to your travel date. The following sites will be able to provide you with a 7 - 10 day forecast :

What clothes to take to Melbourne in September?

Its true what they say about Melbourne having four seasons in one day... it just adds to the charm of the place IMHO :)
Your best option would be to wear layers, and then that way you can peel them off as you warm up, or add them as you feel cool. Jeans, a tee and a jumper would be perfect. ( and as some other people have mentioned, the nights will still be a little chilly, but nothing too unusual from what I am sure you are already used to coming from the UK. )
Your have picked a nice time of year to travel over here... average temps in September range from 10 degrees at night, up to around 18 - 20 degrees during the day.

Hope this helps??! Enjoy your stay :))

June and July Beach/swimming weather in Australia?

June and July is a perfect time for far North Queensland including the Great Barrier Reef.I know that it is not a Surf beach but you can go snorkeling and diving on the reef.I guess a trip to the reef is a must in Australia.Technically in Queensland you should be able to go swimming nearly everywhere just wear a wet suit when you surf.A lot of people swim during the winter months and as longs as you keep warm after the swim you should be ok.I have also been swimming in Darwin during June and July and the water was nice and warm.If you do go up that way you just need to ask a local for beaches that are safe for swimming.I have even been to Moreton Island in Queensland during the winter months and the water was OK.I have also been to Great Keppel Island during winter and did not freeze.
